22Oceanhorn is such a stupendous game that whether it's a Zelda rip-off or not is a moot point. This is the sort of game that proves you can craft stellar, immersive adventures for iOS.
Assassin’s Creed Pirates is a game of entirely unrealistic combat, a non-existent story and lacklustre free roaming. You can’t even walk around on dry land; instead, your freedom is restricted to the sea. However, that doesn’t stop it from being really fun to play. The combat, however repetitive, is fast-paced and requires skill. What’s more, the maneuverability of the ship, combined with the simplistic controls make for some interesting twists and turns as the battles grow more intense.
Device 6 transcends the device and the story and totally immerses the player in a brilliant nightmare-like experience that will terrify many and likely entertain most. Highly recommended.
Angry Birds Go is another fun entry in the franchise, but the in-app purchases completely disrespect the user. Not to mention the fact that I'd happily pay for in-game features like multiplayer, and the situation seems exacerbated. Even then, the racing is still worthwhile and begrudgingly entertaining.
Double Dragon Trilogy is a solid remastering of the beat-'em-up classics from the arcades of the late 80s — barring the awkwardness of touch-screen controls for those without gamepads. But the games have lost some of their edge, more than 20 years on.
Although its gameplay isn’t particularly unique, its wonderful type-influenced design is simply beautiful. Playing a game about typography is such an ethereal experience. I can’t recommend Type:Rider strongly enough.
I’m going to love sinking hours into this game. I’m going to waste plenty of time playing it. But I already know it’s not as good of an experience as the first one. Rayman: Fiesta Run is a lot of fun, but lacks the refinement that the original had.
Plants vs Zombies 2 is a fun new take on the loveable gameplay of the first title. Not everyone is going to be a fan of the in-app payments system but EA has managed to produce one of the better games using this model today. With enticing gameplay, a charming theme and a non-existent price tag, there’s no reason you shouldn’t give Plants vs Zombies 2 a try.
I absolutely love Terraria. I loved it before on PC and I still love it on iOS. I can’t recommend it without reservation if you’ve already got it for PC and are happy, though; for you, there’s no reason to download it on iOS.
The game component doesn’t quite match up to the concept or the visual design, but anyone even remotely interested in understanding how we went from cave paintings to Helvetica and Comic Sans should absolutely check it out.
