- Overall, Type:Rider is like playing through a work of art with good music, excellent visuals, and an interesting and unique concept, but not without some flaws. Itâs still a good deal at $2.99 and might be worth a look.
Kira C · May 01, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It's educational, but it doesn't throw anything in your face. It's a game, but it's a simple and beautifully zen experience, totally lacking in the pointless frustration so common in m-games these days. And the graphics: if you can play this on a tablet, you must. The depth and detail merits as big a screen as you can wrangle.
Janel Torkington · Apr 10, 2014 Reviewed on - Although its gameplay isn’t particularly unique, its wonderful type-influenced design is simply beautiful. Playing a game about typography is such an ethereal experience. I can’t recommend Type:Rider strongly enough.
Nathan Snelgrove · Nov 29, 2013 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - The game component doesn’t quite match up to the concept or the visual design, but anyone even remotely interested in understanding how we went from cave paintings to Helvetica and Comic Sans should absolutely check it out.
Richard Moss · Oct 31, 2013 Reviewed on AndRead full review - Looks and sounds really very beautiful, but the controls and level design create frustration rather than challenge. Also, I shall never forgive the developers for trying to educate me on the subject of typography.
Joe Matar · Oct 23, 2013 Reviewed on AndRead full review - It's an intricately-designed masterpiece that constantly throws fresh challenges and situations at you for the entire run of the game. It looks fantastic, it sounds gorgeous, and it's packed full of imagination and an infectious love of not only typography, but of gaming as well. You might suffer a little at times, but the experience is more than worth the pain.
Shaun Musgrave · Oct 13, 2013 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Everything else about it – the level design, visuals, audio, and blatantly obvious respect for the subject matter – is top notch. It’s the type of game that’s well worth the investment. One would be hard pressed to find anything else like it. So stop reading the fine print and download it already!
Rob Rich · Oct 11, 2013 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - At the end of the day, I can't help but feel intrigued that I played Type:Rider. The subject matters really hits close to home, and found it striking in that specific sense. The platforming is serviceable, but it doesn’t really stand out. The side-scrolling perspective is a prop, used to give the journey more of a game-like feel. As an experience, it did the trick somewhat convincingly, but don't expect anything majorly engaging during your playthrough.
Daan Koopman · Apr 27, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Type:Rider is an enjoyable 2D experience through the history and advent of typography. By combining the haunting and dreary visuals with captivating and clever stage designs, this is a game worth checking out. While not a long game, it can be quickly completed while still providing quite a challenge in terms of puzzle solving.
Josh Di Falco · Aug 21, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Type:Rider couldn't be a more unlikely game, really. It's a collision of visual and gameplay styles topped off with an incredibly narrow educational focus, and yet through ingenious design and polished gameplay it emerges as one of the best mobile titles of the year. You don't have to be a graphic design student to enjoy this one.
