  • Device 6 transcends the device and the story and totally immerses the player in a brilliant nightmare-like experience that will terrify many and likely entertain most. Highly recommended.

Not since Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP has an iOS game had me so completely engrossed. Device 6 delivers a wholly unique puzzle experience brimming with amazing ideas and impeccable style. The fantastic, multilayered story unfolds expertly, and culminates with one of the best final acts in recent memory. Device 6 is simply one of the smartest and most rewarding games I've played in years.

  • I understand that there are plenty of arguments to be made for why Device 6 is in fact not a game at all. After all, the game is mostly text and features very little of what we traditionally refer to as “gameplay”.

  • The story is also dotted with cryptic illustrations, videos, and audio, some of which are interactive. These act as puzzles that, once solved, let you progress further in the story. There’s little in the way of explanation for how to solve the puzzles, so you’ll have to pay attention as you read, and keep your eyes peeled for clues. I only got very stuck once, but most of the puzzles are tough enough to make you feel smart for solving them.

  • Again, Device 6‘s unorthodox presentation may be off-putting at first, but stick with it, especially if you’re a fan of Year Walk. It’s a perfect accompaniment to the current Halloween atmosphere, though like any good mystery, it keeps well at any time of the year.

  • In hindsight, I realize now that Device 6 can be easily categorized with one word: art. With such idiosyncrasies, you might ask yourself should you buy it? Well, that's a puzzle only you can solve. But if you think you have a decent amount of problem solving skills, I will simply leave you all with a hint -- yes!

  • But Device 6 was engrossing for the entire time that I played it, and give it my highest recommendation. Simogo’s doing something few others are doing, and it’s wonderful that someone is both providing great experiences and testing the limits of interactive media.

In using its text both as narrative and as geography...- it generates an almost unrivaled sense of place.

  • Though its subject matter may be bleak, DEVICE 6's ambitious and intelligent re-invention of the text adventure is a joyous and unique experience.

  • DEVICE 6 is a welcome addition to a genre we thought was dead and buried. It's got an engrossing narrative, and an ingenious design that makes the world easy and enjoyable to navigate. And on top of that, it's got a series of truly excellent puzzles.

About the game

A surreal thriller in which the written word is your map, as well as your narrator. DEVICE 6 plays with the conventions of games and literature, entwines story with geography and blends puzzle and novella, to draw players into an intriguing mystery of technology and neuroscience.
