As part of their commitment to their player base, Hinterland has good news for their new and old players. Those who already own a copy of The Long Dark will automatically receive Episode Three: Crossroads Elegy for free. On the other hand, newcomers to the series will not only get the third episode, but they will also receive all previous content and episodes of their WINTERMUTE™ story mode, as well as the updated Survival mode.

Hinterland has always been dedicated to bringing only the best to their players. In the latest blog post of their official The Long Dark website, Hinterland describes the "huge weight of responsibility" he feels for everyone who purchases their game.

"..will they feel good about their purchase? Will they see how much care we’ve put into what we’ve given them? Will they understand what we’ve tried to show them? Today, it’s so easy to be cynical about the industry and the motivations of developers. Most of the cynicism is, in my opinion, an easy cop-out, and deeply unfair. Most developers are in it for the love of the craft. For us, the motivation is simple — to create work of lasting meaning. We hope our work speaks for us."

The Long Dark is a popular exploration-survival game that challenges players to weather a frozen wilderness. It was first released on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One last August 2017. It currently has playscores of 8.38 on the PC, 8.12 on the PS4, and 8.05 on the Xbox One.

The Long Dark Will Get Longer With An Official Third Episode Release Date

Greedfall, the action RPG set in a fantasy-filled 17th century, has been showing up on our upcoming lists for a while now but we didn't really expect much of Spiders' latest venture. As far their trailers were concerned, there were glaring unsynchronized moments and all in all, their graphics looked a little dated.

With some reviews already out on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, we'll take a look at what critics and gamers had to say about the game.

With fascinating lore you’ll want to discover more about any given situation and the history of both Teer Fradee and the various factions. Ultimately, how the world itself becomes the focal point of Greedfall’s narrative - in a way we rarely see - leads to a truly stunning finale full of heart, optimism, criticism, tragedy, and warmth. An RPG to savour, Greedfall’s tale verges on the profound.

GreedFall is a very pleasant surprise and developers of Spiders dudes. After a few lukewarm attempts, they have created a truly great RPG that will appeal to most fans of the genre, even if they find those who don't like it. GreedFall, while offering the traditional components of traditional role-playing games, does it artfully and adds something of its own, which sets it apart from the competition. The story and dialogues, which are rich and engaging, without empty phrases, are also successful. The game has enough depth, although some activities are simplified. For example, opening locked chests is just a formality and you steal items without being charged with theft. Certainly you will find some parts that could be added and improved, but the resulting effect is very good and you can not just break away from the game. I really enjoyed a 45-hour trip to the finals, during which I did most of the optional tasks. And I believe it's not just one of my most intense gaming experiences this year.

I enjoyed myself just about every step of the way through GreedFall’s epic, morally complex tale of exploration and swashbuckling. The Technomancer was disappointing, but I still wanted to see other games try the ambitious things it was attempting with more success - and GreedFall delivers on that promise. There are still glitches, awkward character models, immersion-breaking re-use of assets, and a general bugginess that keep it from being unambiguously excellent, but I have a feeling this is going to be a crowd-pleaser.

GreedFall is a coherent work that does not hesitate to reserve some surprises in the narrative plot, with an irreproachable writing of events and characters. It is a pity only for some stumbling blocks in the interface and in the combat system, which never really manages to shine simply by the simple homework, and for an excessive length of the final beats of the adventure. The charm of the setting, impeccably exploited, is the proverbial icing on the cake. In short, GreedFall represents the pinnacle of Spider productions so far, but there is still plenty of room to improve.

I feel like it's an easy game to criticize for lots of reasons that I wouldn't disagree with -- but I was thoroughly impressed with the handling of the setting, the tone of the narrative, the character interactions and how those meshed with the underlying systems and mechanics, that I simply found myself uninterested in clinging on too strongly to a list of imperfections. Greedfall is an ambitious game that punches above its weight, one that RPG fan owe it to themselves to try.

From a gameplay standpoint, players will not get anything out of this game that they can’t get in a more polished state in the Dragon Age series or The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, making GreedFall a slog to get through. That being said, the game’s unique renaissance and colonization era setting and complex factions is attractive to those that love a good world and story to sink your teeth into..

Greedfall is mostly a title that is worth a look, with efficient and consistent mechanics. The writing is interesting, the fights successful, and the universe regularly renews the interest of the player for the exploration and the resolution of the quests. So Spiders seems to have found the right formula and the right balance, which is very encouraging for the future.

But ultimately, because Greedfall is so cavalier about its colonialist themes, and because it plays it safe by sticking so closely to the template of open-world RPGs, it doesn't really feel revelatory in any way. Instead, it's content to be just another digital playground--just another world filled with magic, riches, secrets, and monsters for players to shoot and loot at will. I did have fun when I got lost in its familiar RPG loop, but its lack of nuance or innovation prevents it from being truly remarkable.

There's really not much a consensus among the ratings Greedfall received from both gamers and critics. For some, it might just be Spiders' best attempt the RPG genre yet. For others, it stops short of greatness by playing too safe in more than a few corners.

Greedfall's highest PlayScore of 7.92 comes from the PlayStation 4, followed by a PlayScore of 7.87 on the Xbox One, and lastly a 7.53 on the PC.

Spiders released their 17th Century action RPG recently and we take a look at what the critics had to say about the game.

GreedFall: What Do The Critics Think?

One of the breakout hits of the last generation has made its return on the Nintendo Switch. Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns is an updated version of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords which first released on the DS and the PlayStation Portable in 2007.

It garnered numerous praise for combining the usual match-three puzzle gaming with role-playing elements, this creating an awesome new experience for fans of the two differing genres.

Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns jumps into the latest generation not just with fancy new visuals but also the addition of the quest line Attack of the Golem Lord.

Having just released a few hours ago, the reviews from various critic sources are starting to roll-in. Here's a rundown of their verdicts so far:

There is certainly a lot to love about Puzzle Quest’s remastered return on Switch. The RPG-meets-puzzle battle system is just as deep and memorable, but almost everything else feels like something straight out of 2007. On the whole, that’s fine, but I can’t help but be dismayed by the bland visuals and presentation. But even failing that, you can just pick one of the 13 classes and romp your way through excellent and distinct battles. Purely based on its battle mechanics, Puzzle Quest is excellent, but it’s held back by the forgettable flourishes.

With just three reviews so far, it looks like Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns is off to a good start. More updates will follow.

Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns currently has a PlayScore of 7.80.

Up to now the top Switch games list is still full of Nintendo's iconic, family-friendly titles. Polish indie Studio, RG Crew, hopes to make a change with the upcoming release of their psychological horror, Anthology of Fear, on the Switch as well as the PC.

According to their director and chief designer, Hubert Zatorski, Anthology of Fear will consist of not just one scary narrative, but three independent stories from various eras, historical or not. With three different narratives, it hopes to provide a "multidimensional" view of fear. And not just that, Anthology of Fear also hopes to provide players with unconventional solutions and diverse gameplay possibilities.

The three different stories are a struggle for survival in remote areas in 20th Century Siberia full of hunting challenges; a contemporary history which will require alienation and creative acts; and lastly, a story with the main focus on memory set in an unspecified time and location.

Hubert Zatorski also added, "Our game will be diverse and ambiguous. It won’t be any problem for fans of the series Silent Hill and Outlast to find themselves in Anthology of Fear. The same goes for titles in the style of Layers of Fear, Alan Wake or even Hunt: Showdown"

Anthology of Fear is set to release on the PC in the first quarter of 2020, with the Nintendo Switch following it a few months after.

Everybody remembers Torchlight II, an action role-playing game originally developed by Runic Games and released on Windows PCs in 2012.
Torchlight II put together the loot-collection and bossfights classic isometric RPGs like Diablo II and vibrant cartoon aesthetics at a budget friendly pricetag. And it only got better with the addition of a cooperative multiplayer for up to six players, as well as an optional PvP. An RPG experience shared with friends, it became a staple for a lot of players on the platform. And now, all that and more is open to players on the consoles too.

This version will feature enhanced controls, an improved targeting system, as well as a specially designed user interface. But, aside from an optimized experience of the original, Torchlight II for the consoles will also come with an array of additions like exclusive pets for each platform.

Here's a full list of the game's key features:

Arcade action on the Nintendo Switches of the Europe is set to take on a whole new level with the coming of A Duel Hand Disaster: Trackher. This game from Ask an Enemy Studios is a split screen twin-stick shooter.

Despite being a split-screen experience, it's actually a singleplayer experience. It diverges from the traditional shmup formula by letting you control two ships simultaneously while they do two different tasks. On the left, you destroy incoming enemies to gain points. On the right, you recover resources in the hopes of adding multipliers to your score. You take damage on the left; on the other, you don't.

If that sounds too simple for you. A Duel Hand Disaster: Trackher has another trick up its sleeve. In order for you to keep your scores, you'll have to extricate yourself from the mission intact. That's right. No more dying until you reach that elusive high score. It's up to you to decide your own limits in achieving your next best score. You die, and you lose all your progress to hubris.

A Duel Hand Disaster: Trackher is also currently on Steam Early Access but it has been released on the Switch last Jun 10, with only two critic reviews at the moment: a 2.00 from Pure Nintendo, and a more generous 7.50 from Nintendo Enthusiast. While not exactly Best Switch Games material, it's still might be a fun pickup for arcade shmup fans.

It's set to make its European debut on September 3rd. Pre-ordering the game will net you a 10% discount.

The full version of Pocket Pair's creative roguelike cardgame, Overdungeon, has just launched on Steam.

This news comes in the wake of Slay the Spire which has been crawling its way up the Best PC Games list with a a PlayScore of 9.09 since it released last January. However, Overdungeon is hoping to do one better, claiming to bring a "completely new style" of real-time card battling. You can watch their official trailer below:

Will you venture into a procedurally generated dungeon as a forgetful soldier, a vampire embarrassed about her sultry costume, or Schrödinger’s cat? Then, pick your path as you use your wit to battle wolves and wizards with a deck of cards.

Overdungeon, like Slay the Spire, is a blend of roguelike dungeon crawling and real-time strategy which comes as a combination that's both replayable and satisfyingly chaotic. Pick a hero, pick your path, and use your deck

Overdungeon has been on the Steam store for a while and since then has earned a Provisional PlayScore of 8.33 from its 758 gamer reviews.

Time for us to sound the horns because the arrival of one of the most anticipated PC RPG might finally be coming soon. In TaleWorlds Entertainment's latest announcement video, they reveal Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord's entrance to Steam Early Access on March 2020.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is an action role-playing game with strategy elements that's set in the fictional Calradia inspired by the Migration Period of the Roman Empire and the European Middle Ages. It will be a prequel to the standalone expansion pack, Mount & Blade: Warband, and will take place 210 years before the events of Warband.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord was first announced in 2012 but not much came out of it until four years later. By 2016, they created a Steam page and uploaded videos to the official TalesWorld Entertainment youtube channel that showcased the game's siege gameplay. In the following years, we got previews of some of the factions.

There's no talks of an official release date, but after almost ten years of waiting, it's been memed to oblivion and it will be refreshing to finally see what kinds of innovations the game will have to offer.
