7 years after its launch on Steam, Plug in Digital and Draw Distance announced that their action-stealth game, Serial Cleaner, will soon be available on mobile platforms. Slated for release in Early 2025, the upcoming mobile version is already open for pre-orders on the App Store and Google Play.

Set in 1970s America, Serial Cleaner is a story-driven, fast-paced stealth slash action game where players take on the role of a professional crime scene cleaner. Sort of like The Wolf from Pulp Fiction.

The job involves disposing of bodies, cleaning up bloodstains, and hiding incriminating evidence, all while avoiding detection by law enforcement. A skilled cleaner must operate with precision, ensuring every trace of evidence is erased before escaping unseen.

Players experience dynamic, real-time changes to the crime scene as they clean. Bloodstains can disappear and evidence can be tampered with. These modifications heighten the tension as police adapt their surveillance, increasing the challenge. For added replay value, the game also utilizes real-world data to modify levels based on the player’s local time of day, adding a layer of personalization.

A screenshot of Serial Cleaner

In addition to its core mechanics, Serial Cleaner offers a full story-driven campaign and extra challenge modes, providing an engaging and varied gameplay experience. The game’s visual style draws heavily from 1970s pop culture, featuring bold, saturated colors and minimalist designs that evoke a sense of nostalgia. Its funky, jazz-inspired soundtrack perfectly complements the era as well, adding immersion to its tense gameplay.

Serial Cleaner currently stands at a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam from over one thousand users. Players praised its quirky attempt at a game about cleaning up dead bodies. Some players also found its positioning clunky, making stealth encounters frustrating.

It currently has a Playscore of 7.7 on PC, 7.8 for PlayStation 4 and 8.1 for Xbox One.

Pre-orders are available now for players eager to step into the role of a stealthy cleaner navigating a world of crime and chaos.

October Steam Next Fest Opens; Hundreds of Amazing Demos Available!

Former AAA developer Ryan R. Burns has announced his first independent project, The Oily Depths, a claustrophobic horror game that puts players in control of a deep-sea submarine.

Burns, whose previous work includes contributions to major titles like World of Warcraft: Legion and Assassin's Creed Mirage at Blizzard and Ubisoft, is now crafting a more intimate and terrifying experience.

"The Oily Depths" draws inspiration from atmospheric horror games like Iron Lung and Lethal Company. The game places players in a tense underwater environment where survival depends on their ability to extract oil for mysterious corporate overlords who control their oxygen supply.

Not our problem. If you don't meet quota... We cut your oxygen.
- Corporate

The Oily Depths's gameplay mechanics makes for a terrifyingly immersive dive into the abyss. It requires players to master various submarine controls, including gauges, meters, and monitors, all while dealing with limited visibility beneath the waves.

Players must carefully navigate the seafloor to locate oil extraction targets and operate complex drilling machinery through a series of detailed interactions.

Burns has created a hostile underwater environment where multiple threats await each player. These include drowning, burning alive, or becoming prey to unknown creatures lurking in the darkness. The game's emphasis on equipment mastery suggests a learning curve that adds to the tension, as players must become one with their submarine to survive.

This short-form horror experience marks Burns' transition from large-scale AAA development to more focused, personal game creation, promising an intense and atmospheric adventure in the depths of the ocean.

The Oily Depths is available to wishlist on Steam.

The Oily Depths: Former Blizzard Developer Dives Into Horror

Square Enix has announced that Foamstars, their vibrant 4v4 online foam party shooter, is now free-to-play on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

This new update removes the entry fee for all players, regardless of PlayStation Plus subscription status. On the other hand, existing players can continue their foam-filled adventures without interruption.

Alongside this significant change, Foamstars has launched its eighth season, "Diamond Jam," running from October 4 to November 7, 2024. The new season introduces several exciting features, including "Diamond Chips" - a new in-game currency that players can earn through gameplay and trade for various cosmetic items like skins, slideboards, and emotes.

To celebrate the season's launch, Square Enix is offering special login bonuses featuring Diamond Chips for all players.

Foamstar's season 8 update significantly expands the game's content with five new maps added to the SMASH THE STAR mode, including Shoreline Shoppin' Spree and Rubber Duck's Spa-larious Oasis. Private Party mode players will gain access to four additional maps from HAPPY BATH SURVIVAL.

Diamond Jam also introduces new WAVE boss battles during SQUAD MISSIONS and limited-time events, including RANKED PARTY, where players can compete solo or in teams across seven ranked tiers.

The new Square Enix IP received a lukewarm reception upon release. It received a playscore of 6.1, with reviewers panning its lack of maps and dearth of single-player content.

Hopefully, Square Enix recovers with this new season that's packed with plenty of new content for players. The developer has promised ongoing support with regular events and updates throughout the season.
