News had come out earlier in the week that there were two Silent Hill games in the works with Sony allegedly trying to mend the rift between Hideo Kojima and Konami. Now news has it that Sony is actually looking to buy these Kojima titles from Konami instead.

According to a leak on 4chan (via Jack of All Controllers), an employee from Konami had revealed last January that Sony was looking to buy franchises Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, and Castlevania from Konami. While a source from 4chan is barely reputable, it does line up with the recent news that’s come out with the Silent Hill games, so everyone is now wondering if the news about MGS and Castlevania are true as well.

Seeing that Kojima is a celebrity game developer, it would make sense that Sony would want him to come back to franchises that he made popular in the first place. Then again, with Kojima supposedly being an ‘artist’ when it comes to games, I’m wondering if he would rather focus on making original games from now on, or jump into a franchise that he knows will make money.

Either way, all we can really do is wait until something official comes out. Despite all these delays with the Coronavirus Outbreak, gaming seems to have found a way to keep pushing forward.

While we don’t have any official update on these games, you can play Kojima’s Death Stranding for the PS4 today. The game is also set to come out to PC on June 2.

RUMOR: Sony Wants to Buy Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Castlevania from Konami

Mark Cerny, known game designer and a frequent collaborator of Sony’s technological efforts, goes on a deep dive to discuss their most ambitious PlayStation 5 console. The Stream was in lieu of their GDC 2020 talk which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The stream had over half a million views and it premiered on most video platforms.

Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter managed to round up the technical features and discussed the PlayStation 5’s improvement in hardware, mainly in its SSD, its custom-made CPU and RAM. Read more here.

Here are the full specifications of the PlayStation 5:

CPU: 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)

GPU: 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency)

GPU Architecture: Custom RDNA 2

Memory/Interface: 16GB GDDR6/256-bit

Memory Bandwidth: 448GB/s

Internal Storage: Custom 825GB SSD

IO Throughput: 5.5GB/s (Raw), Typical 8-9GB/s (Compressed)

Expandable Storage: NVMe SSD Slot

External Storage: USB HDD Support

Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive

Its 825 SSD is its strongest improvement yet. Players will no longer concern themselves with long-load times during fast-travel scenarios and it gives videogame developers more freedom to experiment with their level designs. PlayStation 5 owners can opt to increase their storage whenever they want, or acquire an external HDD.

The stream also discussed PS5’s backwards compatibility, which Mark Cerny added that 100 popular PlayStation titles will be available during launch.

It’s shaping up to be Sony’s most powerful gaming technology yet. Unfortunately, there’s no console shown just yet, but PlayStation 5 is inches away from its full reveal within this year.
The Coronavirus Outbreak is continuing to hit hard, and we are just getting more delays and cancellations left and right. Despite this, CD Projekt Red promises to adapt to the virus, and assures fans that the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 is going to come out on its intended date.

Here’s the announcement:

Like many other offices have adapted, CD Projekt Red has opted to have all their developers work remotely. Despite the setback, the company is still promising that they are ‘showing no signs of stopping’ and are still aiming for the release of their next game in September.

It’s very interesting that CDPR is sticking to their September release date, seeing as they’ve already delayed Cyberpunk 2077. Originally the game was set to come out this April, but the developers had opted to delay the game in order to give themselves more time for ‘finishing and polishing.’ Seeing as they are opting to keep their second release date, I have a feeling that the game is already pretty close to being finished. At least CD Projekt Red is also making sure that its employees are safe.

With the world going on a lockdown, there’s going to be a lot of attention going to TV and video games, seeing as people will have to keep themselves occupied while in quarantine. Hopefully this whole thing blows over in a few months, but we should all prepare for the worst.

10. Disgaea 5 Complete

Nippon Ichi has unleashed their sixth new entry to the massively popular Disgaea series. This time, the series’ proven-and-tested turn based RPG formula has been greatly improved. This Complete Edition contains all the DLCs of the PlayStation 4 original.

This Switch port is the ideal platform to casually roam around the dangerous Netherworld with these colorful characters. Lead these unlikely heroes as they exact their vengeance on the evil demon emperor.

Old fans of this classic JRPG should know the game’s emphasis on turn-based tactical combat is its best feature. This includes its wide variety of customizations and various class options. New fans, however, will find this a tad bit intimidating due to the game’s complicated systems. Nonetheless, its replay value and addicting combat is something any Switch owner should try, dood. A playscore of 8.40

9. Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Nintendo’s most celebrated sci-fi JRPG is also getting its own love for the Nintendo Switch. The Xeno series has come a long way. It’s the third entry to the Xeno Chronicles and it takes us into a world covered in a sea of clouds.

What makes Xenoblade Chronicles 2 special is that it pushes the limits of Nintendo’s hybrid console with its impressive presentation of open-world design and fast-paced combat. It’s similar to Nintendo’s very own Zelda with Breath of the Wild’s massive scale.

Like most JRPGs, guide your team of eccentric characters and explore its living and breathing world full of wonder and danger, all while standing on the shoulders of mechanical giants. It has a playscore of 8.44

8. Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout

Since 1997, the Atelier series has made a name for itself as an adorable JRPG with a focus on alchemy and adventure.

Now on its 21st title, it looks like GUST Corporation hasn’t had enough with its cute and adorable waifu-tier protagonists. Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout introduces a brand new story arc with fresh characters into the mix.

In this title, players assume the role of thicc-thighs Ryza as she embarks on a quest to eliminate the world of evil through the use of synthesis. If anyone’s familiar with the Atelier series, it’s an advanced way of creating new items.

With such a niche audience in the Western market, the Atelier games are something special and this latest entry will spark some interest to the uninitiated. If you know what I mean. It receives a playscore of 8.53

7. Octopath Traveler

Square Enix’s traveling band of 8 unique characters get together in this ultimate JRPG experience. Octopath Traveler is a familiar, yet fresh spectacle of all the great things that make a JRPG great. It’s full of magic, good storytelling and personality.

The game takes place in one kingdom shrouded in a multitude of mysteries. Hop into its immersive HD-2D visuals powered by the Unreal Engine 4 and let videogame nostalgia do the taking.

Octopath Traveler might have the same feel with most JRPGs, but its selection of 8 playable characters is what makes every journey great. Choose your main hero with their own unique origin stories and embark on a grand recruitment spree to meet its entire cast of characters.

Engage in strategic turn-based battles where you exploit enemy weaknesses using elemental or weapon weaknesses. There’s just so much content in each of their stories. It receives a playscore of 8.53

6. Tales Of Vesperia: Definitive Edition

The tenth mainline Tales entry arrives to the Western shores with polish and brand new content. Celebrating 10 years of Tales games, the world of Terca Lumireis looks better than ever on the Switch.

This definitive edition isn’t just a regular remaster, it almost feels like a new game with a ton of fresh additions including a fully voice-acted story and two new characters, the cheerful Patty Fleur and the knight Flynn Scifo.

It may not be everyone's first Tales game, but It’s the ideal game to get acquainted with the Tales series. Whether you’re a new or old fan, this return to the age-old classic is something JRPG lovers will appreciate. It receives a playscore of 8.61

5. Dragon Quest Builders 2

Square Enix’s version of Minecraft. This spin-off set after the events of the original Dragon Quest II. Fans of this voxel-based adventure know that this is a sequel to 2016’s Dragon Quest Builders.

In this brand new journey, the world needs rebuilding and it’s up to you, the player, to bring back life to its desolate and abandoned landscapes.

r

What makes Builders different is its emphasis on character building. Although it’s a sandbox game, at its core, it’s still a JRPG. You create your own character, customize him from top to bottom and let him wander around its magical world. This sequel features the addition of new biomes and other interesting gameplay changes that make its world-building bearable for young and old people alike. A playscore of 8.76

4. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

The Zodiac Age is the closest thing the Switch could get to a modern Final Fantasy title. Square’s underrated JRPG gets a dramatic overhaul to its combat system and fixed a few issues that PlayStation 2 players complained about 14 years ago.

What makes the Zodiac Age different is the introduction of The International Zodiac System. A gameplay rework that improved the original’s ‘sluggish’ combat. Old players will notice the combat feels more alive now, especially with the addition of new features such as being able to switch between characters on the fly and more customization from its Zodiac Sign and Job trees.

Its release on the Switch is the start of Square’s access to Nintendo’s portable console. Who knows, we might get the latest Final Fantasy titles soon. The Zodiac Age is a great FF title for the Switch and it receives a playscore of 8.77

3. Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch

One of PlayStation’s majestic titles gets the Switch treatment. A collective effort between Japanese Animation giant Studio Ghibli and developer Level-5 Games, this magical adventure takes us into a vibrant kingdom straight from our childish dreams.

Unlike the PC version, this is a mere port of the PlayStation 3 original. Despite the unchanged visual quality, the story and its magical presentation is what keeps players going. The world of Ni No Kuni is a charming place with memorable characters, and not to mention renowned Studio Ghibli composer, Joe Hisaishi himself, is taking care of the game’s sweet soundtrack. It receives a playscore of 8.83

2. Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Three Houses continues to be the gold standard of the tactics genre in Nintendo’s world. Three Houses is what Hogwarts would be if it’s a JRPG. You hang out with your friends and enroll in magical classes. Its recent addition to the Super Smash Bros roster proves that this version of Fire Emblem has made it to the big leagues.

There’s so much to do in Three Houses unlike most Emblem titles. Three Houses presents various activities for you to participate when you’re not going to war. In these downtimes, learn various topics in academic seminars, hone your fighting abilities or just simply wander around and talk to every character you meet… you know, like Persona.

What makes Three Houses great is its balanced presentation of gameplay and story. Its cast of relatable characters might charm or appall you, and its gripping story gives you hours and hours of replay value. It’s a fantastic JRPG with a playscore of 9.08

1. DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition

Save the world of Erdrea and take on the role of a brave Hero in this one of a kind adventure. The age of turn-based combat isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. Embark on a traditional RPG journey where you fight bad guys, explore dungeons and find treasure. This trifecta of game design makes Echoes of an Elusive Age a recommended title for JRPG fans.

This mouthful of an entry gets the best version in one Square Enix’s renowned JRPG. XI is considered as the best of the series yet. It comes with additional features built just for the Nintendo Switch console. The power to ‘switch’ (get it) between two graphical modes: the classic 2D visuals or modern 3D gives players more room to experiment with nostalgia, role-playing or just want to try something different.

It is a combination of all the good things Dragon Quest was known for and it’s not afraid to take risks when pushing the franchise even further. It has a playscore of 9.27

Top 10 Switch JRPGs of All Time

Before Death Stranding was a thing, Hideo Kojima was said to be working on a Silent Hill reboot called Silent Hills with Konami. The two had eventually parted ways, and it looks like we were never going to get Kojima’s reboot of the horror title, but the rumor mill is pumping out that the game could be back in development.

As per Rely on Horror, sources have come out to say that there are two Silent Hill games in the works; one from Masahiro Ito, creature designer for the first four installments, and another being Kojima’s originally cancelled project.

Ito is said to be working on a ‘soft reboot’ of the franchise alongside original director Keiichiro Toyama and composer Akira Yamaoka. We don’t have that much information on that game yet, but the team putting it together is said to come from Project Seiren, the same people behind the PS3’s Siren: Blood Curse.

As for Kojima’s cancelled game, the working title was Silent Hills, and it’s rumored to be a title that is being planned for the PS5. It’s said that the game is going to be playable for VR, but it can also be played normally, like Resident Evil VII. Then again, this is all just based on rumors. So far, the only done deal is said to be the first game with Ito.

Interestingly enough, Sony is said to be aiming to patch things up between Kojima and Konami in order to bring Silent Hills back to life. Wiith the mixed reaction of Death Stranding, some think that Kojima actually needs Konami to keep himself in check. Though Kojima has some great ideas, some think that Konami is there to make sure that his vision is still palatable to the general masses.

Then again, until we get an official announcement, all we can really do is speculate. For now, you can catch Kojima’s Death Stranding for the PS4, but the game comes to PC on June 2.

It looks like we were never going to get Kojima’s reboot of the horror title, but the rumor mill is pumping out that the game could be back in development.

It’s been 2 years since the announcement, and players are ready to come back to the world of DOOM.
The DOOM reboot of 2016 was probably one of the best-reviewed games of that time, and everyone was excited when a sequel was announced in E3 way back in 2018. Now DOOM Eternal is gearing up for a release later this month, and we have an official launch trailer that’s all action and gore.

Here’s the official description:

There is only one dominant life form in this universe, and it carries a steel-barreled sword of vengeance. Become the Slayer and hunt Hell’s armies to the far reaches of the earth and beyond. The only thing they fear… is YOU.

Originally the game was set to come out November of 2019, but Bethesda, unfortunately, had to push it back to March for further polishing. The good news is, the game looks great, and it looks like DOOM Eternal is going to be well worth the wait for the fans. If you ask me, I’d rather get a great game later than to have an unfinished game now.

With all the recent delays coming out because of Coronavirus fears, hopefully, DOOM Eternal won’t have to be delayed on launch. Then again, with the franchise boasting to make players feel like an ‘unstoppable force of nature,’ it’s kind of off-brand to make delays last-minute.

Catch DOOM Eternal when it launches for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, and PC on March 20.

DOOM Eternal is gearing up for a release later this month, and we have an official launch trailer that’s all action and gore.

DOOM Eternal Gets an Explosive New Launch Trailer

I had a chance to talk with the game's creator Cliff Cawley, the one-man team behind the game, to discuss monetization, blockchain gaming, and his plans for Forgotten Artifacts.

Forgotten Artifacts, Cliff Cawley’s Solo Journey to Developing a Blockchain Game

The sequel to Moon Studios’ gorgeous action-platformer is getting rave reviews from numerous videogame critics. Considered as one of the most anticipated games of 2020, this forest spirit’s new adventure oozes brilliance and charm. It currently stands with playscore of 8.82 on the PC and 8.44 on the Xbox One.

Here’s what critics said about The Will of the Wisps.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a truly breathtaking Metroidvania that’s significantly larger than its predecessor and builds on it in every way imaginable. It isn’t perfect – the combat may become a little too much for some – but there can be no denying that it’s an incredible technical and artistic achievement.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps’ shortcomings are few and – for the most part – negligible. The game’s brilliance smacks you in the face right from the get go, and it doesn’t let up until the very end. Nearly every moment is finely crafted, nearly every nook and cranny lovingly designed. With Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Moon Studios have realized the full potential of their debut title, and entered the upper echelons of Metroidvania history.

The story is fantastic, the world is breathtaking, and all of that pales in comparison to the wonderfully made gameplay that soars both as a platforming and combat game. Moon Studios has outdone itself with Will of the Wisps, delivering an experience that doesn’t have any lulls, makes the player feel clever, and just keeps getting better as it goes.

With the need to go bigger, Ori and the Will of the Wisps loses some of the simplicity and innocence of the original game, but it steps up in turn with bite and refinement. It's the perfect companion to Ori and the Blind Forest, and is an early defining moment of the decade to come.

In Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Moon Studios has taken an excellent foundation and made even more out of it. Its many new elements expand on and add to the first game’s fun without bogging it down or becoming overcomplicated. And that’s really the best praise you can give a sequel - it stays true to the spirit of the original, doubles down on what made it great, and gives you more stake in the world and options to navigate it. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an excellent heartfelt follow-up that pushes the series to new heights.

There are a few minor stumbles here and there, but make no mistake: I adore Ori and The Will of the Wisps. It's one of the best platformers ever made, and it's an easy front-runner for game of the year. If you liked the first game, you will love this one. And if you haven't experienced Ori's story, you owe it to yourself to dive in now, especially with both games now on Xbox Game Pass. I'll be replaying this game, listening to its soundtrack, and reminiscing over its characters for years to come.

Genre fans and devotees of the first game should put Ori and the Will of the Wisps on their must-play lists. It looks like a million bucks in motion (when the performance holds together) and the narrative is sure to please franchise followers. The standout musical score and a major expansion of the game world and its mechanics are all a welcome addition to the experience. We are living in the golden age of metroidvanias and Will of the Wisps will deserve to stand with the best of the bunch should its technical shortcomings be resolved.

Ori and the Blind Forest was already a masterpiece, but Ori and the Will of the Wisps manages to be even better thanks to new gameplay ideas and new characters. Simply a must-play.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an exceptional adventure that every Xbox One owner should play. Despite its technical failings, it is one of the best Metroidvanias I have played this generation (just behind The Messenger and Axiom Verge). Moon Studios’ sequel is filled with moments of beauty both visually and in its storytelling. If that day one patch fixes those performance issues, there is no reason to skip on this game.

I prefer Ori and the Blind Forest for its compactness and simplicity, but Ori and the Will of the Wisps is also worth playing to the end. It trips over its complexity at times, and really doesn't need so much combat, but it's gorgeous, funny, and the triple-jumping could go on forever without getting old.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps does everything that a good sequel is supposed to do. It refines The Blind Forest’s mechanics, expands on the world, and throws in a whole bunch of new moves and concepts. But in an era that’s rich with “emotional platformers,” Will of the Wisps doesn’t do anything to make itself stand out. It’s a fine, if not forgettable, experience.

Judging from these review scores, it’s obvious Ori’s latest journey is packed with memorable moments that once made the original great.

The sequel to Moon Studios’ gorgeous action-platformer is getting rave reviews from numerous video game critics.
