- Naughty Dog has truly outdone themselves with The Last of Us. They’ve managed to craft a story that’s not only gripping in a movie-like sense, but also fun to play as a video game. The visuals are breathtaking. Even the multiplayer isn’t something to scoff at and is actually entertaining. Is it Call of Duty or Halo? No, but it doesn’t have to be in order to be enjoyed. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to some of the stale offerings gamers have had the last few years.
Jason Dulin · Jul 03, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - From the slow burn of the intricate opening hours that unfold into something reflecting the qualities of the best stories -- heart-aching, tense, but also humane and funny – and also the best games, where it punishes foolhardy action, and rewarding both quick thinking and learning with its ever-changing scenarios. The Last of Us shows us that the future of games need not be jarring messes of complexity with a codependency on apps, a horde mode; something that plays well, makes you think, and keeps you playing to the end is without a doubt worth taking in.
Ryan Stevens · Jun 19, 2013 Reviewed on PS3 - The Last of Us is at or near the top of a very short list of must play games in 2013. The Last of Us not only fulfills the expectation from Naughty Dog fans of game with a beautiful presentation and well thought out story, but its also got the gameplay that is both fun and tension filled. It’s quite possible that The Last of Us will go down as the best work of this generation, not only from Naughty Dog, but in the industry as a whole.
William Schwartz · Jun 19, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - It is very rare that a video game comes along to validate the purchase of an entire system. The Last of Us is one of those games...It is a title that will grab you by the throat and show you how wonderful a storytelling medium a video game can truly be. It pulls no punches. It fully embraces everything a video game has to offer and deftly weaves it into the most tense and engaging story you’ll ever find...Like the best films and novels, once you experience The Last of Us, you’ll never be the same again.
Chris Urie · Jun 17, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - I know a game is really good when I get caught up in the story, get lost in the world, or find myself entranced by the gameplay. In my twelve hours with The Last of Us, I managed to experience all three. Not only is it a beautiful game, it's a metaphorical microphone drop for Naughty Dog, leaving the PlayStation 3 behind for the next gen PlayStation 4.
Olivia Jane · Jun 10, 2013 Reviewed on PS3 - It feels like an important evolutionary step in presentation and tone, presenting a believable narrative populated with realistic characters, structured in a way that remains captivating until the last word is spoken. Multiplayer is disposable and combat can feel a bit rudimentary at times complete with balance issues, but being perpetually enveloped in the stunning world Naughty Dog created makes it easy to forget any flaws.
Steve Hannley · Jun 08, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - The Last of Us is about as good as it gets when it comes to survival action games on the PS3. Once again Naughty Dog’s powerhouse of a graphics engine really showcases how good a game can look on the PS3. Yet The Last of Us isn’t all about the looks. It is a deeply emotional story driven game with an addictive element making it difficult to put the controller down.
Trevor Houston · Jun 05, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - ...Naughty Dog has crafted a game that impresses in virtually every way. The Last of Us is a true feat. Its unrivaled presentation in particular sets the bar even higher than the Uncharted trilogy already did, and its writing, voice acting and layered gameplay combine to create what is very easily the game to beat for Game of the Year 2013.
Colin Moriarty · Jun 05, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - The Last of Us is not simply Uncharted with zombies, but it couldn't exist without Naughty Dog having made Uncharted first, either. It's a dark adventure, one rarely filled with laughs or joy. There are bitter pills to swallow along the way, and nothing is taken for granted, not even characters. People live, people die. Sometimes it's fair, sometimes it's not. It's still a zombie game, but a sobering one. Take a deep breath.
Patrick Klepek · Jun 05, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - The Last Of Us strips away the geek-centric fan service so commonplace in contemporary games...Naughty Dog has delivered the most riveting, emotionally resonant story-driven epic of this console generation. At times it’s easy to feel like big-budget development has too much on the line to allow stubbornly artful ideas to flourish, but then a game like The Last Of Us emerges through the crumbled blacktop like a climbing vine, green as a burnished emerald.

The game features a combination of combat, exploration, stealth, and platforming game mechanics. Although Joel and Ellie are both residents of a post-apocalyptic world, they have had different experiences that affect the way they see the world around them, and feel about what they see and do. Joel had a life before the pandemic, while the world of the pandemic is all that Ellie has ever known. As part of Joel's job to smuggle Ellie out of the quarantine zone, players have to make choices in how they deal with enemies, which include, roving gangs of human scavengers not unlike themselves, military elements and infected civilians.
