The Overwatch Summer Games are back! ☀️

Grab your beach ball and join the fun in Overwatch Summer Games 2020. Earn new summery rewards like Sand Castle Bastion (Epic) & Surf’s Up Echo (Legendary) and return to the field in Lúcioball Remix.

Lúcioball, our futuristic spin on soccer, is back with a new twist. We’ve done some construction work on our Busan and Sydney arenas, and we’re kicking a curveball your way with Lúcioball Remix! In this faster, more chaotic version of Lúcioball, two balls are in play and bonus balls worth extra points will periodically spawn around the arena.

I have to say, with the scarcity of skins with previous events, we have a lot more Legendary looks coming this year. You have to love the beach looks for Echo, Pharah, and Baptiste, and we Brigitte looks great in her Feskarn look.

While we have a lot of new skins though, other cosmetics are pretty scarce. We only have one new Warm Up emote for Tracer, and two highlight intros for Ana and Ashe. On the bright side, we do get access to other Summer Games exclusive skins, so we still have those to look forward to.

For more details on the event, you can go here.

Summer Games 2020 is now live for Overwatch and the event ends on Aug. 25. Overwatch is playable on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Overwatch Officially Kicks Off Summer Games 2020

Games have moved on from being simple platformers with direct goals. Over the evolution of games, developers have been trying to add more emotional elements to their games, and Otterways is offering a unique look into relationships with Sweet Love.

Watch this:

Here’s the official description:

Sweet Love is a very-short platformer with an asymmetrical gameplay that equally runs on Windows Mac and Linux. It will be released as the first of a series of short games called Nuances, a series which focuses on ideas represented in feminist, or LGBTQ+ thematics and fights for inclusiveness. This first game, from the indie game Studio Otterways, stages rough situations such as toxic couple relationship, mental harassment and marital rape. It's coming out on Steam on July 30th and all the profits will directly go to the organisation "Woman in game".

Sweet Love looks to be a very ambitious game when it comes to the themes that it wants to tackle. It’s said that the game was actually developed over a week back in November of 2019 and was offered for free on Itch.io with the purpose to raise awareness about ‘particular types of violence in conjugal relationships’. I don’t know exactly how that translated in the game, but I would sure like to find out.

For now, Sweet Love is the first entry into this whole series of short games called Nuances. We don’t know what’s in store for this, but I’m fascinated to see what direction Otterways decides to go should this be a hit.

Sweet Love is now available on Steam.

Otterways is offering a unique look into relationships with Sweet Love.

The Nintendo Switch keeps pumping out great titles since its release in 2017. 2020 is looking pretty great for Switch users and the first half is proof of that. Drop by our listing of the Best Switch Games to see what's in store for you for 2020!

10. Saints Row IV: Re-Elected

The closest thing the Switch can get for an open-world game like Grand Theft Auto V. This is Deep Silver’s fourth and chaotic adventure game. In IV, everything is packed with more hilarious parodies, and godlike fun. As a Remastered version, expect a few improvements to its visuals. It’s not revolutionary, it’s just a nice addition to the Switch’s list of games.

The world is your playground as you return as the badass Saints boss ready for more over-the-top action. Gain absurd super abilities and battle against an alien race determined to invade the crap out of America. This premise opens us up to a whole new world of possibilities.

Whether you wanna stick to the story, or mess about in super speed races or climbing around in alien towers--there's nothing standing in your way in Re-Elected. It also contains all the DLCs from the original, including the memorable Gat Out Of Hell. A playscore of 7.78

9. Ittle Dew 2+

A sequel to the indie action-adventure RPG from Ludosity. It’s initial release way back 2019 garnered controversy that caused the developer to remove the title from the eShop. A year later, the game is finally back to the Switch.

In Ittle Dew 2+, our little heroine crashes yet again onto an island filled with loot, puzzles, and mysterious inhabitants. Help Ittle Dew and her sidekick Tippsie in their grandest journey yet. For the first time in the series, the characters are now in true 3D!

Borrowing notable elements from classic adventure formula, engage in complex puzzles amidst the game’s deep focus on exploration and combat. Use your magical map and find the eight missing pieces to rebuild your raft. Combine tools you find along the way and survive in this beautiful hand-drawn world. The game receives a playscore of 7.81

8. Darksiders Genesis

Since the Switch was released back in 2017, it received a ton of support from numerous developers. It hopes to bring portable gaming back to the grid. This is how THQ Nordic aimed when it released Genesis to the Switch as well.

An unexpected spin-off to their critically acclaimed Darksiders series is in the form of a top-down hack and slash title. Set years before the original game, witness the bloodbath between the Nephilim and the Horsemen.

Control two characters, War and Strife as they fulfill Lucifer’s orders to disrupt the balance of Hell. Seamlessly switch between these powerful beings with their own set of abilities and embark on a perilous quest all set in the Darksiders universe. A playscore of 7.85

7. Streets Of Rage 4

We’ve been talking about this game for the past few weeks now and boy we don’t ever get tired about it. To repeat what we just said on our previous videos, this was a game that took almost 3 decades for a follow-up.

It was praised for being a return to form to their classic side-scrolling adventures. This cult classic from SEGA continues the beloved beat ‘em up craze. It feels like a time-machine playing this in 2020 as it combines new mechanics with some of its signature sets of moves from decades ago.

Choose from its ragtag group of characters and engage in fun brawler combat with or without a friend. It receives a playscore of 7.98

6. Trials Of Mana

Square Enix’s beloved Seiken Densetsu series is back in 2020, and it also comes in the form of a gorgeous remake. This was the return of the fan-favorite JRPG from 1995. This fresh new look to the third entry of the Mana series is made for both old and new players.

In this Remake, the game is rebuilt from the ground up and it’s now in complete 3D. New players will find the magical world of Mana spellbinding, while series veterans will appreciate the numerous additions to its story and gameplay. Either way, Trials of Mana still lures us back to its enchanting lands filled with darkness, light and how could we forget the ever-present and huge mystical tree.

The changes are obvious and players can experience a different kind of Trials of Mana, but with the same story. A playscore of 8.03

5. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX

Speaking of Remakes, a Pokemon title also came out this first half of 2020, but it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table since it’s a remake of the 2005 Mystery Dungeon that came out for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance.

Mixing Mystery Dungeon’s roguelike elements with Pokemon’s charm, Rescue Team DX allows you to forge your own personality and experience the life of an actual Pokemon after being transformed into one.

Throughout the game, there will be numerous dungeon-crawling moments and quirky Pokemon hijinks. While this remake retains the classic 16 starter Pokemon, this DX version features new mechanics not seen in the originals such as mega evolution, an auto mode, and finally an auto-save. A playscore of 8.20

4. Two Point Hospital

Laughter really is the best medicine. From a PC game in 2018, this hospital simulation game is also available for the Nintendo Switch.

SEGA’s Two Point Hospital is a hospital building game where you construct the most efficient medical facility and cure those who fall ill from even the most unusual diseases.

A reminder: this is NOT a game not to be taken seriously if you’re really looking for some medical lessons. Although it deals with illnesses, the patients you meet aren’t exactly part of the status quo.

It’s a great addition to the Switch’s list of great simulation games since it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Any moment you’ll be dealing with a massive horde of the undead, or a swarm of extraterrestrial freaks. A playscore of 8.31

3. Rune Factory 4 Special

The 3DS had a great run and one of its popular titles is Rune Factory 4. This Special Edition comes to the Switch with a few upgrades including a new difficulty mode and fresh illustrations.

For the uninitiated, Rune Factory is basically part life sim, part farm sim, and part dungeon-crawler. It’s like Harvest Moon but more… anime-y. You will be expected to do a lot of things in the span of a single day so multitasking is key.

There’s not much difference in the story. You still play the role of an amnesiac weirdo. Mistaken for some kind of Royalty, your goal is to help the citizens improve the city of Selphia, and turn it into a popular tourist destination. It’s a near-identical port to the 3DS classic and it’s perfect for players who just want to relive the journey. A playscore of 8.63

2. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition

If anyone enjoys Xenoblade Chronicles 2, or simply maining Shulk in Super Smash Bros but don’t know who he really is, this Definitive Edition is just for you.

This definitive version of the 2010 JRPG masterpiece is now on the Nintendo Switch and what could be better than that? Join the fight between man and machine and witness the origin of the iconic Shulk with new and improved visuals and a few bonus features.

Spend over 70 hours of pure unadulterated JRPG goodness and enjoy its blazing-fast real-time combat in a massive futuristic world. A playscore of 8.76

1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The Pandemic hit us hard, but anyone with a Switch is lucky enough to enjoy and relax with some good ol’ Animal Crossing fun. It’s the perfect game to spend countless hours of farming and managing your empire of Bells right at the comfort of your own home.

Finally making its debut to the Switch, this latest title takes you into a whole new world free from the modern life woes. With more freedom at your disposal, New Horizons is a paradise of peace and serenity. Embrace that rural life as you collect resources and use your green thumb to cultivate plants and trees.

Make some new friends and get to meet some familiar faces in the Animal Crossing universe. There’s so much to do in this living and breathing world and it deserves a playscore of 9.22

Here are the Runners-Up:

11. My Hero One's Justice 2

A fighting game to one of this generation’s hit anime. Create epic power plays as you take on the shoes of Deku, Bakugo, and so much more. A playscore of 7.76

12. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore

An enhanced port of the 2016 Wii U classic. Atlus and Nintendo come together to make this wonderful JRPG. A playscore of 7.73

13. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4

Repel massive hordes of enemies in this latest follow-up to the Straw Hats Crew’s musou adventures. A playscore of 7.73

14. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated

The much awaited remastered of the PlayStation 2 classic. Lead Spongebob and his friends as they stop Plankton from taking over Bikini Bottom! A playscore of 7.72

15. Bubble Bobble 4 Friends

A pretty straightforward bubble shooter. This sequel contains even more levels and a fun co-op to play with friends. A playscore of 7.57

Top 10 Switch Games of 2020 So Far (Jan to Jun)

One of the main boasts of the Xbox Series X is its backwards compatibility, and a lot of Xbox fans are happy that they’re libraries from the first gen of Xbox can be accessed with the Series X. When it comes to the PlayStation 5 though, it looks like the console will be able to access hardware from the previous gen.

As per the PlayStation Blog, here’s a list of all the PS4 accessories and peripherals that will be able to connect to the PS5:

Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.

The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).

The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.

Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.

Though the DualShock 4 controller is still accessible with the PS5 though, gamers shouldn’t think that it could be a direct replacement of the next-gen controller.

As confirmed by the PS Blog, the PS4 controller will only be effective in playing PS4 games—you will still need to have a PS5 controller for titles that come exclusively to that console. The blog reads:

“No, we believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller.”
This is sure to be good news for anyone who has invested in all the other accessories that can come with the PS4. While there are sure to be upgrades to these extra devices, it’s great that we can have access to the older materials in the meantime.

Sony is yet to announce when the PS5 will release, but everyone is hoping that we get full details on PlayStation’s State of Play which takes place on Aug. 6.

Meanwhile, you can find more games in our dedicated list of Upcoming PS5 Games.

Remember Army Men? It was a game franchise that launched in the 90s that let players take control of green army men toys as they waged war on the battlefield that was a child’s playroom. We haven’t had an entry in the franchise since 2013, but this launch trailer for The Mean Greens: Plastic Warfare may just as well be its spiritual successor.

Check it out:

Here’s the official description as well:

We are very excited to announce the launch date of The Mean Greens: Plastic Warfare on PS4! This action-packed third person online multiplayer shooter was a blast to make. We hope you enjoy it! Coming to digital download on August 5th.

While the game looks like your standard shooter with familiar game modes, The Mean Greens definitely sets itself apart when it comes to the setting. Instead of sprawling cities or futuristic maps, we get to play around different elements of a house, from a bathtub to the kitchen. It kind of feels like a Toy Story spinoff where you get to play missions as the green army men.

This is also just something else I noticed, but the score for the trailer kind of sounds like the music from Marvel’s Ant-Man—a film that deals with a miniaturized character traversing an enlarged terrain.

The Mean Greens: Plastic Warfare will be available on the PS4 and the Xbox One on August 5th. You can find more games in our updated lists of Upcoming PS4 Games and Upcoming Xbox One Games.

What can be considered Army Men's spiritual successor, The Mean Greens is now coming to the PS4 too.

While everyone was excited for the announcement of the Spider-Man sequel for the PS5, we instead got a reveal for a spinoff titled Spider-Man: Miles Morales. What’s interesting is, it’s possible that Insomniac’s first Spider-Man game is going to be getting a remaster.

In the latest issue of Game Informer (via ComicBook), it’s said that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be bundled up with a remaster of 2018’s Spider-Man game. This hasn’t been confirmed by Insomniac or Sony at all, so it’s best we take this info with a grain of salt.

It would make sense for Insomniac to try and bring the first Spider-Man into the next generation of consoles, seeing that every sequel will likely be coming to the PS5. Even Naughty Dog made the first Last of Us available for the PS4.

We don’t know exactly what they could bring to the table, but everyone would like to play the game with minimal loading screens.

Hopefully we get more details soon, as Spider-Man: Miles Morales is expected to come out sometime later this year along with the PS5 launch. For more games, check out our updated list of Upcoming PS5 Games.

Insomniac's Spider-Man expansion may be bundled with a remaster of their 2018 title.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales will Allegedly Include PS5 Remaster of PS4’s Spider-Man

Inspired by the Monkey Island series and Day of the Tentacle--which remains one of the best PC Singleplayer games--imaginary lab and VLG are staging the comeback of the point and click adventure with their upcoming title, Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town.

Check out the gameplay trailer below:

As Willy sets out to discover the whereabouts of his missing father, the esteemed archaeologist Henry Morgan, he’ll unravel a web of secrets with the help of a whimsical cast of characters.

Their gameplay trailer may feel a little slow but that might be one of the things that make it seem just like the old point-and-click games. Where the modernization is more obvious, though, is in its smooth 3D visuals that seem far off from their inspiration's retro pixel style.

It might not be too obvious, but Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town also promises to pack a lot of the humor of the classic point-and-click games.

Explore around the 3D pirate world, interact with their interesting characters, and laugh out loud at the humorous dialog injected into each interaction. On top of that, of course, you'll also be tasked to collect clues and solve the challenging puzzles that lie ahead in their narrative-driven adventure.

“Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town is an unapologetic tribute to the legendary point-and-click games that defined an entire generation of video game fans,” says Daniele Falcone, General Manager at VLG.

“We can’t wait for people to relive their childhood through a fresh, modern lens and introduce a new group of kids to this endearing genre.”

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town is set to release on the PC via Steam on August 11. A modern take on the classic point and click adventure formula is coming out this August

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town: A Tribute To Classic Point and Click

Independent developer Snowcastle Games had introduced us to the world of Umbra when they released Earthlock back in 2016, and four years later, we now have a trailer for the sequel, Earthlock 2.

Check it out:

While the first game was developed with a really small team, this sequel promises that Snowcastle is bringing in more collaborators, resulting in a bigger game. Game director Bendik Stang says about the sequel:

“We are so pleased to finally offer up this first tease of what players can come to expect in Earthlock 2… We really want our next title to offer players a huge amount of replayability, customization, and depth, with incredible emergent gameplay possibilities. It’s been an exciting endeavor for us and we can’t wait to reveal more about the game in the future, please stay tuned!”

With the original Eartlock making use of turn-based combat, the new game is said to be an ‘open-world action RPG with complex interlocking systems.’ We don’t know what they mean exactly by that, so until we get a gameplay teaser, we’ll just have to wait and see.

What’s great is, if you’re not familiar with Earthlock, you can also check out the original game which is now 80% off on Steam; the Nintendo Switch eShop and Xbox Games Store are also offering the game on discount at €4.99 EUR / £4.49 GBP / $5.98 USD.

Here’s the plot for the original Earthlock:

The Earthlock series is set on the planet of Umbra, which has stopped spinning on its axis, meaning half of the world is completely shrouded in darkness, while the other half is constantly baked in sunlight. Along the border in the middle, there is an area that gets the best of both worlds. The game’s story centers around a group of friends who must set out to find and rescue their missing family members.

No release date has been set for Earthlock 2, but expect it to be available for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X.
