June was expected to be a big month for games, and though E3 2020 has been cancelled, Sony was planning a big reveal event for the highly-anticipated PlayStation 5. Due to the Black Lives Matter protests, Sony has opted to cancel their big reveal set for the end of the week.

Sony posted in their official announcement:

We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled on June 4.

While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.

Admittedly, this seems like a good move on Sony’s part. With the Black Lives Matter protests prompting attention from countries outside of the US, it wouldn’t be smart for Sony to try and have a big ‘celebration’ of their new console in the midst of the growing outrage.

On the other hand, there are also those fans who are downright angry that Sony has decided to make a delay, and some comments are being posted about how Sony is being unprofessional and taking away their ‘means of escapism.’

We don’t know when the PS5 reveal will be, but Sony will likely come up with a new date soon.

Sony Delays PlayStation 5 Due To Black Lives Matter Protests

Feudal Japan is a very colorful setting for a lot of games including Sekiro and the highly anticipated Ghost of Tsushima. Now independent game studio Endflame is bringing the horror genre to Feudal Japan with Ikai.

Check out the first trailer:

Here’s the official description:

Ikai is a first-person psychological horror game set in a feudal Japan steeped in poverty. The story revolves around the spirits of the past and the present of Naoko, the priestess of a shrine.

She woke up within the unholy walls of the formerly sacred place, almost dead, almost alive. Countless yokais were wandering around, too close to humans, too close to Gods. The thin limit between the world and the underworld had broken.

While we only get to see one monster in the game, it looks like we should expect even more yokai to make an appearance in Ikai. Japanese folklore is very rich in all different kinds of superstitious beings, and there’s a lot to choose from when it comes to this game.

The main setting is a medieval shrine in which players will have to go through different types of minigames to try and ward off evil; from writing down protective seals or twiddling with magical artifacts. There will also be stealth elements to the game as players will be prompted to ‘be silent, do not disturb the evil.’

Ikai is set for a release on Steam sometime in 2021.You can find more games in our updated list of Upcoming PC Games.

While the game did experience some delay, The Last of Us Part II is finally going to come out next month. Just in, Naughty Dog has dropped a new ‘State of Play’ video, and it gives us an in-depth look at the game mechanics as well as 8 minutes of gameplay.

Check it out:

Over the course of this nearly 25 minute episode, Neil Druckmann, Director of The Last of Us Part II, will provide an extensive look at the gameplay, threats, and world of the game ahead of its release on 19th June on PS4. To cap it all off, he’ll introduce a never-before-seen extended gameplay sequence to close out the show.

If you want the gameplay footage alone, you can watch it here:

In general, the game looks pretty much like the first, what with Ellie sneaking around and taking out enemies with a variety of weapons. The big difference is that there will be a more extensive customization option for gear, and we also get a variety of both human and infected baddies, each with their own unique way of harassing the player.

I also forgot to mention they’ve added dogs to the game, which makes it harder to sneak around because they can track your scent.

For now, fans are carefully navigating the internet because of the leaks of the story, but with June almost here, they won’t have to be careful for too long. Good thing Naughty Dog is also trying their best to keep spoilers down to a minimum.

Catch The Last of Us Part II when it becomes available on June 19. You can find more games in our list of Upcoming Games of PS4.

It’s worth noting that this announcement follows the official reveal for Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Collection. With players being able to try their hand at the classic games, it’s pretty great that PC gamers can now get in on the hype.

Pre-orders for Samurai Shodown are actually available on the Epic Games Store right now, and pre-ordering actually gets you a 10% discount on the game.

While several fighting titles like Tekken and Mortal Kombat have managed to evolve in their style and gameplay, it’s great to see some classic fighting games still coming out today.

SAMURAI SHODOWN has enjoyed worldwide success as a blade-wielding fighting game series since its first release in 1993. Over 10 years have passed since the last series installment, and it is now time for SAMURAI SHODOWN to return in a brand-new game featuring high-end visuals and gameplay!
After the Infamous games, Sucker Punch is set to bring something entirely new to players with Ghost of Tsushima. With a games set in medieval Japan being synonymous with ‘difficult’, the devs tease a challenging that is sure to keep everyone on the edge of their toes.

Talking to IGN Nordic, creative director Nate Fox explains:

"We are trying to make a grounded game in that sense, so a couple blows from the enemy will kill you. The game is very challenging. We have three words to describe the combat: Mud, blood and steel. We absolutely honor the lethality of the sword. We watched samurai movies and people go down with one or two strikes, and that is embedded inside of the combat.”

Art director Jason Connell also teases that players will have to be more creative when it comes to their playstyle. While players have gotten used to taking out horde after horde of goons in other games, Ghost of Tsushima force you to be smart about taking on a handful of enemy samurai when you run into them.

Admittedly it would be tough for Tsushima to come out a month after the release of the highly anticipated The Last of Us Part II, but I’m sure there are some fans who prefer hacking their way through feudal Japan rather than braving the zombie apocalypse.

In 1274, the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the Japanese island of Tsushima and slaughters its legendary samurai defenders. Jin Sakai is one of the last survivors of a noble samurai clan. To combat his overwhelming foes, he must pioneer deadly new fighting techniques--the way of The Ghost--and wage an unconventional war for the people of Japan.

We’re in the midst of a global pandemic right now, and world leaders everywhere have been heads or tails when it comes to doing a good job. With everyone stuck in quarantine, Pockets of Energy Entertainment decided to bring their game, Pandemia: Virus Outbreak to Steam, and it's your last chance to get it at a huge markdown price.

Here’s the gameplay trailer:

Pandemia: Virus Outbreak is about making difficult decisions that world leaders make every day. You have to save the world from the deadly threat of the virus. How you do it is up to you. But remember, every decision has it’s instant or postponed consequences.

As you can see, the gameplay is simple enough, with players merely having to choose between given moves in order to try and stop the spread of the pandemic. Pandemia actually draws influence from games like Reigns and Plague, Inc.—the latter having gained more popularity ever since COVID-19 started locking down countries.

Pandemia: Virus Outbreak is described as a premium offline single player experience, and you shouldn’t expect to pay for any in-app purchases. While some games look to have multiple layers of complex elements, this one looks to have a simple format where players can swipe left and right on what to do with the pandemic.

Pandemia: Virus Outbreak is now available on Steam at 40% off for the next few hours.

Blizzard launched Overwatch back in 2016, and since then the game has grown to be one of the most popular online multiplayer games today. Overwatch is actually celebrating its fourth anniversary, and we have a new trailer commemorating the event.

Check it out:

Probably the biggest loot coming to the game are the legendary skins for characters Mercy, Zenyatta, Ashe, Reaper, and Wrecking Ball. You’ll also get a chance to win some Epic skins for heroes Sigma, Widowmaker, and McCree.

The anniversary event is also infamous for dance emotes, and we have some new ones for Sigma and the latest hero Echo. Roadhog also gets this emote called Big Guy which is going to be his second dans emote in the game.

With every anniversary also comes the chance to win rare skins from previous events of the game. If you’re not so keen on spending your credits on the anniversary skins, you can have your pick from cosmetics from past events like Halloween and Winter Wonderland.

I’ll admit, I’m kind of bummed that we don’t have a new game mode introduced with the anniversary, but players are sure to be kept busy with the return of old game modes from past events like Lucio Ball, Mei’s Snowball Offensive, and Junkenstein’s Revenge.

For more details, you can check here.

The Overwatch Anniversary event runs from May 19–June 9. Overwatch is now playable for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

While the Aftermath expansion comes with new characters and a new campaign, there’s actually going to be a free treat for gamers who already own Mortal Kombat 11. Friendships will be making their comeback in the game, and NetherRealm Studios has released an official trailer for them.

Check it out:

Friendships will be available for all the core characters and even the DLC ones like Sindel and Nightwolf. We don’t get a peek at Friendships for incoming characters Fujin, Sheeva, and Robocop, but they may also get their own when the expansion comes out.

Friendships won’t be the only free thing coming with the expansion either. Players will get access to the new stage of the game like the Dead Pool the Soul Chamber from Mortal Kombat 3. All players will also get access to stage fatalities, which will be available for stages existing in the game as well.

With the Kombat pack completed and Aftermath coming later this month, a lot of fans are curious when NetherRealm will announce the second Kombat Pack with new characters. We should probably expect a delay because of COVID-19, but hopefully the next batch of incoming characters will finally include Evil Dead’s Ash (Bruce Campbell), who was said to be delayed because of a licensing dispute.

If you already own the game, the Aftermath expansion is going to run for $39.99, but if still don’t own it and want the full package, you can spend $59.99.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is set to come out this May 26, but the base game is available now for PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PS4.

Twin-stick shooters have been in the shadow of the more popular FPS genre, but you can’t deny they are always a source of very interesting, experimental games. Just in, we have a new upcoming game called Retrograde Arena from Freemergency Studio.

Check out the trailer below:

Here’s the official description:

Today, Freemergency Studio and Another Indie are pleased to announce Retrograde Arena, a stylish physics-based twin-stick shooter! In Retrograde, weapons don't kill, but the environment does! Retrograde Arena completely reimagines the twin-stick formula with dynamic movement enhanced by weapon recoil.

Guns aren’t just for attack, they are for speed, dodging, sharp corners, and brutal counter-attacks. Weapon recoil, bouncing beams, and environmental (deadly hazards) awareness make Retrograde Arena an entirely new kind of competitive multiplayer experience.

Dripping with gorgeous neon and thrumming with powerful synth-wave tunes, Retrograde Arena captures 80’s vibes and puts players in various battles for dominance!

Retrograde Arena is self-classified as a party game and is probably best played in a room full of friends. Besides the dazzling visuals, players will be able to cycle through three game modes, King’s Crown, Supersizer, and Last Man Standing. The game also promises more things to come, so this could just be the tip of the iceberg.

Though the game isn’t out yet, RA has managed to nab the Rising Star Award and Best Innovation Awards at the SEA Game Awards last year. Hopefully Freemergency will manage to stick the landing when this comes out.

Retrograde Arena lands on Steam Early Access this coming May 28.
