Back in October of 2019, Nacon and Cyanide Studio had officially revealed their upcoming game, Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood. While the cinematics certainly were impressive, we had yet to see some gameplay—until now.

Check out the official gameplay for Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood:

Embrace the power of the Werewolf in Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood. Learn more about the forms, abilities, and skills of Cahal, an exiled werewolf who has returned to take part in a bloody campaign against the evil oil and gas corporation Endron, as our developers walk you through the World of Darkness in this commented gameplay video.

While the game does look like your usual modern action-platformer, there is a very interesting mechanic when it comes to the main character of Cahal who is a werewolf. In the game, you can actually morph into three different beings, each with their own distinct function. The human Cahal can be good for socializing and interacting with the environment, the wolf can sneak around and move faster, and the final werewolf mode allows you to take down enemies in savage rage.

There are also a lot of other Arkham-like elements where you can sense which characters are carrying silver bullets which are more harmful to Cahal. You also get to wield a crossbow that has special gadgets that can take out cameras and other tech. It’s also worth mentioning that the enemies themselves come with mutant powers—just to even the playing field a bit more.

The game is actually based on a tabletop roleplaying title called Werewolf: Apocalypse, and it’s all part of a larger World of Darkness series. While the game is only one element to the franchise, there’s a lot of other material that can help you get engrossed with WoD.

Like I said, the game feels very Arkham, but the ability to morph into different types of werewolf is pretty interesting. No doubt the devs probably want to do more with this franchise. Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is set to come to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Feb. 4, 2021.

While we don’t have a full roster of the games that will go on sale yet, a lot of people have been guessing what kind of titles will come out. A lot of people are hoping for some big titles like Horizon Zero Dawn or Borderlands 3, but I speculate we’re going to at least get 3 AAA titles available for free, and they would have to be 2-3 year-old games. Then again, that’s just speculation on my part.

Epic also urges players to keep their Wishlists updated, so you get a notification if ever the game you want will be available for any discounts.

And speaking of discounts, Epic is also offering some very huge deals up to 75% off. So you should check out the store for any sweet deals available.

Epic Games Announces 15 Days of Free Games

Video games have come a long way since Pong, and though a lot of games seem pretty standard today, nothing really compares to the desperation and difficulty that retro games have been notorious for. What’s interesting is, Jandusoft S.L. and Plain and Game Studio are planning on mixing the cute and the ‘hardcore’ with their upcoming title Elliot.

Here’s the official description:

Elliot is a colourful 2D platformer inspired by 16-bit classics, with a touch of hardcore. Don't be misled by appearances: it's a colorful game, but really it's technicolor hell!

The game comes with two playable characters, Elliot and Manuel, and you have the chance to traverse 60 levels through 11 chapters. While the game is described to be stress-enducing and hard, it does come with a soundtrack of relaxing music to ‘make everything much easier’; I guess that’s what they were going for with the trailer—a nice Pixar soundtrack paired with some crazy-looking levels.

Though there is much to do with the base game, there are also several other elements on Elliot that will encourage you to challenge yourself with Speedrun mode as well as other achievements; all to make the most of its $5.99/5.99€ price tag.

Catch Elliot when it hits the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on Dec. 24.

Check out the launch trailer:

Here’s the official description:

Grindstone Mountain is overrun with vicious Creeps! Slay your way up its treacherous peak where fortune, glory (and death) awaits! It’ll take sharp puzzle skills and an even sharper blade to cleave your way through the swarms of bloodthirsty Creeps dwelling within Grindstone’s dungeons. Battle bosses, loot resources, discover long-lost blueprints for powerful gear, and prove your prowess on the daily mode’s leaderboards, all while cleaving the innards from your deadly foes! Over 200 levels of intense puzzle-battling madness!

Grindstone is said to come from the same creators of <a href "https://whatoplay.com/switch/superbrothers-sword-and-sworcery-ep" title="Superbrothers Sword and Sworcery EP on Switch">Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Critter Crunch, and <a href "https://whatoplay.com/switch/superbrothers-sword-and-sworcery-ep" title="Might and Magic Clash of Heroes on iOS">Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes; it’s also part of Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase. I guess it’s also worth noting that it got nominated for Best Mobile Game at the Game Awards.

Interestingly enough, the game has a very similar look to that of Adventure Time and Midnight Gospel, but it looks like Pendleton Ward isn’t connected to the making of the game. Either way, Grindstone has a very unique look, and though puzzle games feel like a dime a dozen, this title looks to be worth checking out for the art style alone. The colors are bright and loud, and the creature design looks amazing.

Grindstone is now available for $19.99 USD/€ 16.79/£ 15.09.in the Nintendo Switch store, but if you get the game early, you can enjoy a 25% launch discount.

Team17’s Overcooked! All You Can Eat is already filled to the brim with adorable characters, but one new playable chef has been on screens since the 70s. As officially announced, the Swedis Chef from The Muppets is now available for free on Overcooked!.

Check him out:

Ghost Town Games’ Gamma Langford also had this to say about the Swedish Chef coming to the game:

“We are huge fans of The Muppets over at Ghost Town Games and to have an icon such as the Swedish Chef visiting the Onion Kingdom is an absolute dream come true. We reckon the original connoisseur of chaotic cooking will find himself in great company!"

And in case you’re too young to remember who the Swedish Chef is, you can check out this clip from the show:

What’s interesting is, it looks like the Swedish Chef is the first character on the game to have existed in different IP, so I can’t help but think that we could be getting other kinds of Muppets in the game. The aesthetic of the existing characters already look like they were inspired by the muppet designs, and it would be great if we could get characters like Kermit or Fozzy playable on Overcooked!.

Just in case you didn’t know, Overcooked! All You Can Eat is a remastered compilation of the first two Overcooked! games, bringing the chaotic cartoon kitchen to 4K at 60 frames per second. This remaster also comes with seven brand new levels and three new chefs and will be playable online for the first time.

The Swedish Chef will be available for a limited time only. Play Overcooked! All You Can Eat on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5.

With December almost halfway through, a lot of people are wondering why Blizzard has yet to announce their next event, Winter Wonderland. What’s great is that we finally have a date, plus a tease for upcoming new skins.

As per the official announcement, Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2020 takes place from Dec. 15–Jan. 5. We should expect a whole bunch of cosmetics to come with the event, and the first one teased is that of Penguin Mei which you can check out here.

We should expect some other skins to be announced when the full preview drops. I’ll admit, we haven’t been getting any new game modes recently, but the devs have managed to bring in some very interesting skins. No doubt Winter Wonderland will have some more great looks for our favorite heroes.

We should also expect the return of some Winter game modes like Yeti Hunt and Mei’s Snowball Offensive. While I’m hoping that Blizzard would give us some newer game modes this year, I think the pandemic has forced devs to just make do with what they have; it’s basically a miracle that we’re getting anything new at all.

Join the fight for the future in the Game Awards’ winner of “Best Ongoing Game.” Take your place in the world of Overwatch and choose your hero from a diverse cast of soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities. Bend time, defy physics, and unleash a dizzying array of extraordinary powers and weapons. Engage your enemies in iconic locations from around the globe in the ultimate team-based shooter.

Overwatch Winter Wonderland takes place from Dec. 15–Jan. 5. Overwatch is now playable for Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS4.

Fall Guys Season 3 'Winter Knockout' decks the halls with wintry wonders, delivering a flurry of festive mayhem, including 7 new Rounds, dozens of fresh costumes and a whirlwind of new features that are truly the snowy peak of Fall Guys foolery!

As promised, the season will be bringing us new levels, obstacles, costumes, and emotes. We don’t really know the specifics as of now, but it looks like there will be some existing levels altered, plus some new levels with all-new mechanics.

Costume-wise, it’s everything you can expect from a winter-themed season, from reindeer and snowsuits, to a full-on Krampus costume. Not to mention all the different types of snow-based animals like polar bears, penguins, and walruses.

I have to admit, Fall Guys (besides Among Us) was a surprise hit for 2020. With the simple premise and adorable mascots, Devolver has found a hit that is fun and easy; not just to play, but to watch as well. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout Announces Winter-Themed Season 3

After months of delays and uncertainty, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally set to come out this week. Reviews have already come out for the game, and one big question going around is, “Does CD Projekt Red’s new game build up to the hype?”

As it turns out, the answer can be quite mixed. While a lot of reviews are praising Cybperpunk 2077 for its vast and sprawling world filled to the brim with details, there are a lot of bugs that plague the game. A day one patch is said to fix said bugs when the game releases, but even at 43 GB, some expect that the game won't be done with the polishing until mid-2021.

Besides the bugs, one common praise that Cyberpunk has been getting is the quality of the side quests. While the game does have a main storyline with a few changes here and there, several reviewers have been praising the sidequests for their variety and ability to tell more stories about the people who live in Night City; they don’t really affect much of the main game, but I guess their meaning is really just up to the player.

I guess it’s also worth mentioning that a lot of people love Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand. Silverhand will apparently be with you for most of the game, and it will be clear that he’s an asshole of a character. That being said, he’s there to morally challenge the player from time to time, but he can also just hang out and say funny things.

Here are some snippets from the reviews that have come out:

Night City is the kind of place where if you move through it too quickly you’ll miss half of what it has to offer. But don’t let the first-person perspective and guns-blazing futuristic combat fool you: Cyberpunk 2077 feels like an RPG through and through. It’s frequently a slow-paced game full of rich, beautifully presented conversations and an almost mind-boggling amount of choices to make – choice in dialogue options, how to build your character, how to approach missions, and beyond. (IGN) 9/10

You'll want to explore everything Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer, because the core campaign is surprisingly short – should you focus solely on the Main Jobs. Ignore Side Jobs, Gigs, and other Night City lures and you could be looking at a completion time of somewhere in the 15 to 20 hours region. But, you'll also be doing the game a huge disservice by powering through V's core task, so while it's possible, I'd also strongly advise against it. (GamesRadar) 5/5

Too bad almost every serious dramatic beat was undercut by some kind of bug, ranging from a UI crowded by notifications and crosshairs failing to disappear, to full-on scripting errors halting otherwise rad action scenes. What should've been my favorite main quest venture, a thrilling infiltration mission set in a crowded public event, was ruined by two broken elevators. I had to reload a few times to get them working. (PC Gamer) 78%

Legendary rockerboy Johnny Silverhand is with you for the vast majority of the game, showing up in pretty much every mission to try to influence your decisions, make snide remarks, or just kick back on a bed in the background while you talk to someone. His relationship with V is often antagonistic, sometimes playfully so, and other times outright hostile.(GameSpot) 7/10

With the incoming patch, we should expect some opinions to change, seeing that these reviews are based on an early access version of the game. Ultimately it’s going to be up to the players on whether Cyberpunk 2077 lives up to the hype or not.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches on Dec. 10 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

What are Critics Saying about Cyberpunk 2077?

After several delays and disappointments, Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red is finally going to come out this week. Ahead of the launch of Thursday, the studio has dropped a new launch trailer to get that final push for the hype.

Check it out:

Reviews have already been coming out for the game, but so far CDPR has asked reviewers not to show any of their in-game footage. While the world is said to be just as vast and expansive as players expected, there are still multiple bugs and errors in the game that reviewers have been running into.

Word is going around that there will be a massive day one patch for Cyberpunk at 43.5 GB, and though it’s pretty hefty, some expect this to address all of the bugs that people with early access have been receiving. Hopefully by mid-2021, the game will be polished enough for everyone’s expectations.

Though video games have been around for a while, the medium has changed in such a massive scale and so much variety that our choices are only limited by the human imagination. That being said, there is a festival that celebrates the more socially relevant titles to come to gaming and they’ve announced their event for 2020.

Games for Impact was a festival that started in 2018 and describes itself as an ‘international festival showcasing purposeful video games that reach beyond entertainment.’ This year the festival will be looking at games that address accessibility, encourage critical thinking, foster empathy, and help learning for children and maybe even full classrooms.

Here’s the official description:

The first edition of the festival took place back in 2018. This year, the event is back with an even stronger line-up of games that serve something more than just pure fun. Loneliness, war, death, and even education or bursting ideological bubbles are only a few of the many topics that developers try to discuss via their games that will be presented during the event. Join online for free to take a look at our favorite medium from a different angle.

Seeing that the pandemic is still very much around, Games for Impact has been forced to hold its event virtually. The event is set to start on Dec. 8 and will last until Dec. 11. For a full look at the Games for Impact program, you can check here.

It’s actually a very neat festival and has a very optimistic look at the potential of interactive arts. While it could be small-scale for now, hopefully it gets the attention of the big game studios moving forward.

Games for Impact happens from Dec. 8–11.
