Ever since the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, the video game division of Lucasfilm, LucasArts, had been dissolved with EA taking over the IP. With new Star Wars game titles being planned down the line, Star Wars has officially announced their new game division—Lucasfilm Games.

Celebrate Lucasfilm’s rich legacy in games, as we enter an exciting new era of storytelling in Star Wars and beyond.

It’s worth noting that all modern Star Wars titles are showing up in the teaser from main games like Battlefront II and Fallen Order to expansions on games like Sims 4 and Minecraft. Only one game in the teaser hasn't been released yet, and that’s LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga which is set to come out in Spring this year.

After the blunder of EA with the launch of Star Wars Battlefront II, Disney is said to be making sure to take a good look at the gaming side of Star Wars. This new banner could be a result of that. This might mean we will be getting a whole bunch of games moving forward. Even when the movies had ended, fans had LucasArts to thank when it came to keeping the franchise alive.

With Genji being the one to get most of the great cosmetics throughout the game’s run, it’s also nice to see some more love for his estranged brother Hanzo.

Besides the game, Overwatch is also known for building a story around the characters. Blizzard has also released this new ‘Correspondence’ letter from a Toshiro Yamagami which will give us more in-story context for the new map and updates on the Shimada clan.

Here’s the official description:

Just when you thought it was safe to stumble back into the Blunderdome, two unique worlds collide with a collection of iconic, demonic costumes inspired by DOOM muscle their way into Fall Guys for a limited time from January 12. Fall Guys publisher Devolver Digital has absolute confidence that their precious jelly beans are in no way under threat from the infernal hordes, but insist that Team Deathmatch remains unconfirmed.

This is certainly a hard right turn for Fall Guys (FG) which is just coming out of their Winter/holiday season. But it’s still great that we’re getting some new costumes. Fingers crossed we also get some new DOOM-themed maps.

Like Among Us, Fall Guys has come out to be a surprise hit for 2020. I have to commend the designers on the accessibility of their game. The IP tie-ins manage to keep FG feeling fresh. Though we have been getting a lot of costumes, I am hoping we have some more colorful events and game modes down the line.

DOOM Costumes Announced for Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Farm sim games have always been grounded in reality, even when characters are talking animals like in Animal Crossing. What’s interesting is, Stairway Games has looked to bring together all those classic titles with their upcoming Kickstarter game, Coral Island.

Here’s the announce trailer:

The official description reads:

Coral Island is a re-imagined farm sim game inspired by classics. Grow crops, nurture animals, and befriend the islanders. Decide whether to revitalize not only the town but also the surrounding coral reefs.

Promising to keep intact what makes classic farm sim games fun, Coral Island aims to modernize and make the experience more inclusive. We feature a large cast of diverse characters and weave environmental awareness into the core game loop — all the while keeping it a wholesome good time.

From the get-go, you can see that there are some influences from other titles, specifically Animal Crossing, but there are also some added elements to give the player some more dramatic interactions with NPCs. What’s probably the most unique thing about Coral Island is the fantasy element, where players can actually dive underwater and interact with creatures like mermaids. There are even some ‘fire’ levels where players have to fight off giant lava spiders.

If anything, the game is also going for that wholesome Disney aesthetic. The character animation could use some more work, but for now, things are looking nice and colorful, and I’m sure a lot of people would have something to love out of Coral Island.

Coral Island is aiming to release on Steam later this year on Steam, but it launches its Kickstarter campaign this coming Feb. 1.

The Farm Sim Genre Gets an Underwater Twist with Coral Island

Zombies and blocks have always gone hand in hand with video games over the course of multiple generations, and Mobile Mischief is set to bring the two genres together with their upcoming Oculus title called Zombie Gunner.

Watch this:

Here’s the official description:

Zombie Gunner is a wave based zombie shooter. Experiment with the 13 different guns, everything from the AK-47 to the Sawn Off Shotgun. Open fire on zombies in three unique locations. Fend off the zombie hoards and see how long you can last!

The trailer looks pretty standard, but hopefully there are more elements to the game that will give Zombie Gunner a lot more variety and replayability. Who knows, with surprise hits like Among Us coming out of nowhere, maybe Mobile Mischief will announce some neat add-ons to the game, depending on how popular it gets upon release (or maybe even years after).

While the games with zombies can sometimes get too queasy for younger audiences with titles like The Last of Us and Resident Evil, Zombie Gunner looks like a fun intro to the genre that won’t leave your young kids with nightmares. You should add this title along with Plants vs. Zombies for kid-friendly zombie games.

Zombie Gunner looks nice and colorful enough, and you only have to dish out $4.99 to get the title.

Catch Zombie Gunner when it becomes available for Oculus Rift on Jan. 7, 2021.

Residents live in cities built upon whatever urban structures remain above the water’s surface including skyscraper rooftops and giant statues. Take control of a motorboat and travel between settlements, fighting pirates, excavating the remnants of a lost civilization from the depths of the ocean and transport valuable goods whilst discovering whether the mythical land still exists.

Age of Water producer Yuri Miroshnikov also had this to say about the game, “We believe that the bright visual style of Age of Water as well as it’s unusual setting and high level of freedom will appeal to the players that like exploring new worlds.”

For now it looks like Sea of Thieves where you explore the world, gather a crew, and loot items, but instead of a pirate setting, we have “Mad Max, but in the water.” So far things are looking interesting, and hopefully we get a proper trailer and release sometime in 2021. The Alpha test is set to begin on PC soon, but hopefully Age of Water will also come to consoles.

No release date has been announced for Age of Water yet, but you can read more about the game here.

Garena’s Free Fire was the most-downloaded mobile game of 2019, and the end of 2020 marks the announcement of the arrival of some characters from one of the most popular anime franchises today.

Free Fire has announced that they will be making some in-game content based on the hit anime One-Punch Man. Free Fire producer Harold Teo had this to say about the crossover:

“We’re excited to welcome one of Japan’s most iconic heroes into the Free Fire universe. We’re always looking to create novel, in-game content infused with influences from across the world and believe that our partnership with One-Punch Man will offer our global community of players even more opportunities to battle in style.”

We don’t have any trailer yet, but Garena did give us a key visual:

So far, it’s been announced that players will be able to get their hands on One-Punch Man-inspired outfits for their characters. And though they won’t be able to get a character as OP as Saitama in the game, players will be able to get a chance to wield the power to defeat any opponent with just one punch.

Garena also promises ‘plenty’ more One-Punch Man-themed content down the line, but so far we don’t have any specifics. With the show having characters with so many different abilities, it would make sense for the devs to try and draw special skills from them; something other than costumes.

No release date has been announced for this Free FirexOnePunch-Man crossover, but hopefully we get some update by the New Year.

While Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master remains a cinematic kung-fu classic, this upcoming game called Drunken Fist from eastasiasoft won’t be drawing from any of that martial arts history. The game is set to come to consoles this week, and we have a trailer showcasing this drunken brawler.

Check it out:

Here’s the official description as well:

Street fights have never been funnier! Drunken Fist is a physics-based brawler that never takes itself too seriously. Take the role of a drunk guy as he looks for food and collects booze across 7 challenging stages. Along the way, you’ll cross paths with jocks, hipsters, punks and a motley bunch of other enemy types, each with their own unique combat styles.

Hilariously simulating the feel of a drunken fight in dynamic 3D physics, the blows fly past, you constantly fall down and behave ridiculously. Will our inebriated hero ever get home?

While it doesn’t look like there isn’t much emphasis on fighting style, Drunken Fist will be more focused on ‘physics-based’ fighting—perfect for a character who is trying his best just to keep standing-up. As the description goes, Drunken Fist doesn’t really take itself too seriously, and players can just have fun drunkenly navigating the game as they search for food and fights.

Drunken Fist comes out on Dec. 23 for US$7.99/€7.99 and will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Get Drunk and Fight Strangers in Trailer for Drunken Fist

It’s no mystery that the launch of CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 has kind of been a disaster, and the bugs had gotten so bad that PlayStation was forced to remove the game from their digital store. While a lot of people have been ranting and poking fun at Cyberpunk, the CDPR board of directors are facing backlash from another branch of people—its own developers.

As per Bloomberg, an ‘internal video meeting’ was held at CDPR after the PlayStation announcement, with management apologizing for how the launch went down. During the conference, it was said that several angry staff members had made clear at their disappointment with the directors, with one employee asking why the board would announce to the public that the game was ‘complete and playable’ last January.

For context, Cyberpunk 2077 was expected to come out in the middle of the year, and after three delays, it finally launched this month, but the game was still so buggy and was virtually unplayable on last-gen consoles like the PS4. While on the surface it sounds like a few patches could deal with the problems, we have to take note that the studio had forced the developers to crunch the last legs of the game, with some allegedly forced to take 6-day work weeks.

Ultimately, the complaints were saying that the board was completely unrealistic with their deadlines, and that’s why the game came out as such a buggy mess, even with all the crunch that the devs had done.

Conversations about crunch have been going around a lot recently—not just with CDPR—and it has been revealed that several developers have been forced to work in incredibly terrible conditions, all in the name of releasing a game on time. While I do think that Cyberpunk can still be fixed by 2021, this should serve as a cautionary tale for the industry, and hopefully open up rules to avoid these kinds of work conditions in the future.
