CAPCOM's latest RE entry took the world by storm, as we've seen from the many internet memes. But we all know Village is more than just tall vampire ladies. According to Gamespot, “...it is an intelligent reintroduction of the best action elements of Resident Evil.”

Despite Village's reliance on action, especially with Chris' episodes, the action never overstays its welcome. The overall horror experience is still unmatched. It's a wild ride of all things terrifying, from werewolves to creepy dolls.

A DLC is in the works, adding some more memorable scares for our favorite RE characters. It receives a playscore of 9.01

Speaking of horror, this Devolver-published title seamlessly blends horror elements into its simple, yet complex deck-building rogue-lite gameplay.

The dark themes are intentional, as Inscryption delves into psychological horror and escape-the-room challenges. Think of it as SAW, except you actually have a fighting chance. For anyone interested in playing this one, it's best experienced blind, as the many surprises in its fascinating story is sure to blow your mind.

Gamespot gave it a score of 8 praising its gameplay, saying,“Not only is the core card game at its best, but it's also where those mechanics are best served by the richly atmospheric trappings surrounding them.” Only on the PC for now, it receives a playscore of 9.02

The balance between its roguelike deck-building and idle-clicker combat makes for an addicting experience.

Since the game is loaded with stuff to read and instructions to follow, it can be intimidating at the start. But after a few enemy encounters and some failed runs, you'll get a picture of what this game is all about. Are you up for one more loop? A playscore of 9.04

Whatoplay presents 10 of the best Xbox Series X titles this year

10 Best Xbox Series X Games of 2021

A year has passed since the PlayStation 5 graced our world. There are over 800 titles out on this new-gen console, but these 10 have proven themselves most worthy of this year's top ranks. Whatoplay presents 10 of the best PlayStation 5 games this year. All arranged by playscore.

Housemarque's triple A debut signalled the beginning for the PlayStation 5. As a launch title, it set huge expectations for future titles of the new-gen platform. Returnal's immersive sound design and responsive controls really brought out the weight of its fast-paced roguelike gameplay.

The haptic feedback of the DualSense controller is satisfying.

Game Rant's Cameron Corliss praised the solid foundations of this fresh IP, giving it a perfect score and calling it, “...the most satisfying gameplay loop Housemarque has crafted to date…”

And for those worried about losing their runs after hours of hard work, the latest update finally added a Save Feature that lets you take a break and live to fight another day. It receives a playscore of 8.65

The Yakuza spin-off that we never knew we needed. The fresh face of characters and atmosphere is a far cry from the original series' goofy charm. Judgment's crime-busting detective story is gripping from beginning to end.

This re-release for the PlayStation 5 made it even better. It added a performance boost and a visual polish that's worthy of the new-gen console. Its sequel, Lost Judgment, also garnered positive reviews, but couldn't quite keep up with the original.

Many consider this as their favorite Yakuza game, and according to Push Square, it's “...arguably the perfect gateway into SEGA's stellar series.” A playscore of 8.75

Agent 47's final set of missions gained him a spot in Whatoplay's hall of fame.

HITMAN 3 didn't really add anything new to the table, but that's not a bad thing. IO Interactive knew their audience well-enough to give them a handful of objectives to experiment on across six of its major locations. There are many ways to handle these missions and each of them are so well-done it can generate hours and hours of espionage.

Although the series has reached its end, the game is still being supported with additional maps and missions. Just recently, IO Interactive shared a roadmap for the future of this title, and it looks like Agent 47 isn't going out soon.

Few racing game series have stood the test of time, and this one from Codemasters is one of the best. This year the hard work they put in is showcased in this installment's many new features. For the first time ever, a new story has been added, taking players on two very different paths, as an up and coming racer or long-term journeyman.

Whether you want to go in for a casual experience, or full-on expert mode, the game offers you plenty of choices. As one reviewer notes, "All in all, F1 2020 is a great racing experience that you shouldn't miss if you are a racing veteran of any kind."

The latest of the Tales games is its most ambitious yet. Arise set a whole new stage for the future of the series with more budget packed to its storytelling, characters and worldbuilding. This resulted in a multilayered story that could go on par with its previous entries.

According to Push Square's Robert Ramsey, “...it's easily one of the strongest, most cohesive Tales games to date.”

Even if you're not too interested in its anime tropes, the combat is something to look forward to. The improved Linear Battle Motion System makes every encounter feel engaging as it adds more weight to your party members' strengths. Like many JRPGs, the journey is quite lengthy. If you can spare 40 or so hours, you'd enjoy what Tales Of Arise has to offer. A playscore of 8.83

2021 was a huge year for CAPCOM's zombie franchise. From movies and games and to TV shows, it now has a universe of its own. Village's attempt to balance frights and fights works well for our one-dimensional protagonist.

Vampire mommies aside, Resident Evil Village takes all of the strongest aspects of its predecessors and scatters them across its beautifully decrepit setting.

As GameSpot's Phil Hornshaw says “...Village is an intelligent reintroduction of the best action elements of Resident Evil.”

From classic survival horror in Dimitrescu's Castle, to guns-blazing action in Moreau's Reservoir, CAPCOM understood the assignment and gave fans a horrorshow worth remembering. A playscore of 8.84

It's hard not to expect big things from a new-gen version of a Remake of Square's 1994 JRPG classic.

Intergrade not only added a handful of quality of life improvements to this first part of an upcoming Remake series, it also showed how Nomura can still insert a story that can expand VII without the need for a sequel.

Its release is focused on anyone who hasn't played it yet, and want to experience the next-level visual and performance enhancements it deserves. Those who played the vanilla version and can burn an extra sixty dollars again can enjoy a new chapter of Yuffie, albeit a short, yet memorable adventure. A playscore of 8.95

Rift Apart isn't afraid to reinvent the action-platforming genre. With its emphasis on weapon switching, the shooting is made even more interesting. The amount of guns you acquire throughout the game is insane. Like this Ricochet Gun that bounces off foes with every pull of the Trigger buttons.

Not only does it feature big guns, it also makes good use of the PS5's hardware with little to no loading times. Travelling between planets takes only milliseconds. Removing the hassle of waiting.

There are countless roguelike titles in the market, but Hades proved its more than just a rinse and repeat story. Zagreus' journey is finely wrapped with the boons of his Greek God relatives, as well as the passion of Supergiant's development and art team. The story is integrated into its never ending gameplay, but each run offers something new to tweak and experiment on.

10 Best PlayStation 5 Games of 2021

Another year comes to a close and Whatoplay is back again for your annual dose of the best games of the year. Whatoplay presents 10 of the best Android titles this year. All arranged by playscores, of course.

We open our list with a fresh, yet familiar take on cats in videogames. Catopia's anthropomorphized felines bare themselves in its vast world teeming with monsters and treasures.

It's simple and it's intended for casual players who both love cats and one-button games. Unfortunately, since it's a free title, the ads can get annoying.

Still, this hassle-free control system makes it great for relaxing after a long day at work. If you're not smashing foes and taking down bosses, the game has plenty to offer in challenges to face and characters to unlock. All with the mindless ease of little taps on a screen.

Gamezebo gave it an 8. Saying, “It'll fill up some little play-sessions nicely, and it's got enough going for it to keep you entertained for longer if that's what you're after.” A playscore of 8.43

Like Pokemon but with robots, scavenge for scrap around its world and find the perfect parts to make new mechanical buddies. Travel from arid deserts to lush forests in search of that missing piece. It may have automated battles, but each bot you collect has a variety of abilities at their disposal and watching them fight for their lives in the colorfully chaotic arenas is satisfying. With its dizzying robot varieties and zones to discover, it receives a playscore of 8.43

Take control of a group of bounty hunters as they hit their marks in a sprawling cyberpunk city. Its arcade-y run and gun gameplay fits well to its mobile platform, especially on Android. With responsive touch controls and challenging level variety, Huntdown offers hours and hours of platforming action.

Its well-loved crafting system is wonderfully preserved here, as well as all the harvesting, exploring, and romancing that its RPG formula allows.

It's no stranger to issues though. You may find a few cracks in its gameplay loop, especially after a few hours in. But, if you can get past them, My Time at Portia is a fun treat. It receives a playscore of 8.49

Even as an otome, Tears of Themis is unique. It cleverly balances the all-important dating aspect with a detective mystery, luring us further into its story while their perfectly sculpted bachelors sneak into our hearts (and MiHoyo, into our wallets.)

Yes, it's still a gacha game, and that comes with its own hang-ups. On the other hand, knowing how well-loved it is despite its snail-paced, slow burn and MiHoyo's sneaky in-app purchases, just shows how firm the game's grasp is on its audience.

As one reviewer notes, "given how engaging the romance is, the sly tactic is definitely effective." It receives a playscore of 8.79

This multi-award winning indie puzzler really knows its audience. Baba Is You received numerous praise for its playful attempt at the genre. Although it looks deceptively simple, the rules are bendable. Even the game gives in to its fourth-wall breaks.

One moment you feel like you're the smartest person in the world, and the next you feel like an idiot for missing a clue. Once you get a hang of its formula, though, it will keep you wanting more. This recent port to Android devices is the ideal brain-teaser at the palm of your hand. Its recent update added 100 more levels to tickle your brains.

This is an audacious, engaging puzzle game that's every bit as good on mobile as it is on PC and Switch - Gamezebo

Games like these come once in a blue moon, and it's best experienced on a cozy day. Even Pocket Gamer agrees.

Whatoplay presents 10 of the best Android titles this year

10 Best Android Games of 2021

Another year comes to a close and Whatoplay is back again for your annual dose of the best games of the year. Whatoplay presents 10 of the best iOS titles this year. All arranged by playscores, of course.

10. Sixit

Opening our list is an indie adventure taking place in a strange world full of anthropomorphic characters. Sixit’s gimmick lies in its limited number of moves. Avert an incoming storm by making six varied movements. Use these actions to discover the mystery behind this island.

The repetition might intimidate some players, but veteran puzzle gamers will find this a breath of fresh air. Make the most out of your limited moves and solve a myriad of puzzles through trial and error. It’s great for short bursts of playtime and it has a ton of replay value. As all mobile games should. It receives a playscore of 8.65

9. Giant Dancing Plushies

A game that shouldn’t be classified into a genre. On the surface, it showcases an adorable mishmash of stuffed animals wreaking havoc on a city. In reality, it’s a rhythm game where you control these cotton-filled kaijus with careful timing.

It’s not that complicated, fitting in to the iOS library as it caters to casual mobile players that don’t want to take things too seriously. Stomping to the beat is easy as one two three. Collecting plushies and adding new music into your rainbow-colored stampede will add a few more hours of gameplay. It receives a score of 8.65

8. Queen - Rock Tour

Speaking of rhythm games, UK’s beloved rock legends have their own game for iOS, too. It’s not only breaking Billboard charts, it’s taking over our list too.

Everyone knows Queen. At least those who don’t live under a rock. Whether you’re a fan or not, Rock Tour lets you jam to the tunes of their greatest hits, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You,” and more. Master different instruments for each song and appease the departed soul of the great Freddie Mercury.

It’s a rhythm game at its core, so there isn’t anything revolutionary in it. But with its wide selection of Queen music, its Licensing definitely deserves praise. It has a playscore of 8.68

7. FANTASIAN

A product of the industry legends responsible for the Final Fantasy series. Any fan of JRPGs will enjoy the world. Its themes, style, and especially its tandem with Nobuo Uematsu, the man responsible for most of Final Fantasy’s fantastic scores, will give fans that familiar FF feel.

Despite being a new Square Enix title, it’s not that original. Its story couldn’t compare with Square’s Hall of Famers, but it doesn’t mean it’s bad. Amnesiac characters are still in vogue, I guess.

What makes Fantasian great is that it’s accessible for anyone new to JRPGs. It only takes a few hours to get used to its mechanics, and to enjoy what its story offers. This Apple Arcade exclusive receives a playscore of 8.69

Racing games get their praise too, and it seems like iOS users are in for a treat this year.

Rush Rally Origins is the strongest racing game in the Apple store right now. It features a top-down camera that somehow works well on the mobile. Graphics are top notch as well. For a game that could fit at the palm of your hand, it’s highly optimized even for low-end iOS versions.

If you’re interested in adding flavor to your game, customization is a must. Who cares about beating records when the real endgame is fashion. It has a playscore of 8.73

Fans of interactive games will find this visually enthralling. If you’re into short and sweet experiences, Silver Lining Studios' indie title is something you should check out.

Like Annapurna’s FLORENCE, this game doesn’t require any mechanical mastery to finish. For about an hour, you follow the life of a protagonist struggling to make her final masterpiece. Puzzle solving is barely challenging, but it compensates for it with its spellbinding art style.

There will be crying at the end. so if you’re into getting emotional once the credits roll, you’re in for a ride. A playscore of 8.79

An otome game from the studio behind Genshin Impact. MiHoyo blends investigation puzzle and romance sim into one mobile entry.

There’s nothing innovative or groundbreaking here. It’s built for players who find the charm in its selection of breedable characters. Developing the relationship between these sets of characters will open up new doors to its story.

Its recent update added outfit changing, lounge customization and Birthdays for your favorite character. A playscore of 8.81

One of the most immersive RPGs just arrived on iOS early this year. Original Sin 2 offers hours and hours of story-heavy adventure in its gripping fantasy world.

Once you’ve created your character, the world opens up and it’s up to you to make your own choices. Coming from consoles, adapting Divinity 2 to a portable device was a huge task. Thankfully, Larian Studios managed to do it just right without sacrificing most of its key elements. It works smoothly on iOS’ M1 chipsets, running at a stable 60 frames. Expect this game to eat up your battery life though.

10 Best iOS Games of 2021

Aside from its upcoming open-world racer, Microsoft still has a lot more games to offer this year. Titles like Halo Infinite and Shredders and many others are confirmed to release on the Xbox Series X in 2021.

Upcoming Games on Xbox Series X (November to December 2021)

There are a dizzying array of choices right now. We compiled the best features of 11 of today's available subscription services.

Which Video Game Subscriptions Are Worth It?

June is E3 month. This means hundreds of new titles and thousands of info updates. So much so that we’ve had to publish a separate list of our most anticipated titles. All this on top of the data team’s daily tasks (keeping track of releases, reviews, etc.).

New Game Releases

816 games launched on major gaming platforms. PC leads with 183, followed by the Nintendo Switch with 166. The new consoles (PS5 and Series X|S) still lags behind their predecessors (PS4 and Xbox One) in number of releases. Then Android and iOS games; at the end of the list is Stadia with 22 -- surprisingly, still active.

(Note: A title released on two platforms counts as two separate games.)

Games Added

Learning from our past coverage of E3, we already have an idea of the amount of data that gets dumped. To cut our workload, the team sifted for available information ahead of time. Sources include published press releases, tweets, email submissions, posts, interviews, and more.

Last month, we added 1673 games. Below is the breakdown of titles by platform.

The difference is not that big compared to previous months as most of the workload was with updating. To see the full list, check our new and upcoming pages.

Other data things...

We aggregated 2572 critic reviews.

Starting June, we stopped adding versions (Deluxe Edition, Gold Edition, Hardened Edition, etc.) as separate games. This has long caused confusion among users of the site. They rarely receive reviews and, sometimes, outrank the main game on search engines.

Improvements on data automation. These past few months, our web crawlers kept failing to capture newly-published reviews. We're currently working to improve their stability and performance.
