15. Velocity 2X

Futurlab's followup to their successful 2012 shoot 'em up for the PS4 and Vita, this Switch sequel ramps up the action with a splash of color and a new layer of gameplay. A lot like Blaster Master Zero, Velocity 2X also lets players jump out of their desginated spaceships to slip into some sidescrolling shooting with the powerful Kai. Blending two kinds of gameplay into one package, critics loved the smooth transitions between them, both showing off the fast-paced excitement we've come to love.

While others remarked on the game's engaging visuals and endless replayability, some weren't as impressed, describing it as a bland and repetitive experience. Whichever way you lean, it seems as though it's a great enough arcade game, with a rating of 7.99.

14. Overcooked! 2

A party game that proves that collective misery can be fun, Ghost Town Games second installment gathers you and your friends right back in the kitchen for another round of gastronomic hell. Back with a dishwasher load of brand new levels and recipes, it comes with a shiny new polish. But for all its signature toughness, it still has some hiccups like the technical frustrations of their clumsy corner counters.

It also has an online multiplayer that adds more challenge to the kitchen chaos but could still use a bit more time in the oven. A tasty treat nonetheless, it would've deserved a spot in the official ranking with a Provisional PlayScore of 7.99

13. Yoku's Island Express

If Velocity 2x was a smooth transition from one shooting to another, Villa Gorilla's action platformer is a union of unlikely genres. Set in a sprawling 2D open world, Yoku takes you on an a metroidvania tour of ancient caverns in--get this--pinball fashion. Bouncing players around from one end to the next, it's a unique adventure experience that, for some reviewers, definitely enhances the genre's usual meandering pace.

On top of its charming visuals and overall presentation, it also offers engaging puzzles, with each area always ripe with secrets to scour for. Putting a twist on a time-tested formula, it receives a rating of 8.09

12. Moonlighter

Digital Sun's roguelite RPG that takes inspirations from the classics--and you can feel it at first glance. Aside from its pixel aesthetics, Moonlighter also nails the traditional 3rd person perspective that takes you back to the old Pokemon days. Revolving around a shopkeeper slash adventurer, Moonlighter stands out by offering both dungeon crawling action and simulation, effortlessly revitalizing the JRPG tropes it adopts.

For many reviewers, it has balanced blend of nitty gritty commerce and satisfying swordplay that can appeal to fans of both--though it might have the tendency to feel grindy in later hours. A promising indie title, with a Provisional PlayScore of 8.1

11. LUMINES REMASTERED

A remastered version of the award winning 2004 title, the musical puzzle game shines bright on the Switch. From the makers of the equally tantalizing Tetris Effect and Rez Infinite, Resonair lends their atmospheric chops to Q Entertainment's puzzle series. One of the hallmarks of the genre, Resonair had some big shoes to fill but they delivered with the frenetic sights and sounds of this latest installment.

Supremely addicting, Gamespot went so far as saying it "rewires your brain" into a pattern-recognizing machine for visual and audio cues. Already receiving a PlayScore of 8.22 on the PC, this remaster earns its spot on this list with a rating of 8.1

10. Mega Man X Legacy Collection

The first of two grand Megaman collections, everyone's favorite blue robot takes us all on a trip through memory lane with editions spanning from his 16bit days to his eventual move to the detailed 32bit format. A celebrated return, it comes with plenty of new features. From the X Challenge mode that faces you off with not one but two deadly bosses, to a literal nostalgia minefield of rare production art and classic merch.

With some of the Megaman title gone into the void of obscure and outdated consoles, this new Switch collection provides the perfect opportunity to replay your favorite chapters. It has a Provisional PlayScore of 8.13

9. Darkest Dungeon

Red Hook Studios spills blood red on your screens with this dark and gothic take on dungeon crawling roguelike RPG. Following a group of heroes in their descent into horror and madness, Darkest Dungeon's affliction system effectively captures the physical and psychological stresses of their dire situation. Decidedly dark and gritty, it invites us to crawl into claustrophobic spaces and face enemies in random battles that bring our teams closer to permanent death.

First released on the PC, controls might feel a little awkward on the Switch. And as with most roguelikes, there are some frustrations ahead. An immersive and engaging treat, experience its hellish discomfort that will make you crave sunshine. It has a Provisional PlayScore of 8.18

8. LIMBO

PlayDead's been in the business of artistic puzzle platformers and they all started with the monochrome melancholia of this 2010 title. Inspired by film noir and German expressionism, Limbo is one of the many posterboys for the videogame as art movement. Evoking a sense of loneliness and isolation in its visuals, LIMBO is equally splendid in its gameplay, showing their ingenuity with the puzzles and mechanics throughout the game. One of the main gripes about the titles is its short length.

Though the experience is universally praised, most critics have found themselves wanting more. With the port to the Switch, there's not a lot of difference. While it would've easily made its way to the Switch's top rankings, the stark lack of user reviews on the console has unfortunately left them out. It has a Provisional PlayScore of 8.21

7. GRIS

Another that could've easily made it to the rankings. Nomada Studio's indie adventure has earned a score of 10/10 on Steam and a PlayScore of 8.98 on the PC. With its move to the Switch and the lack of user reviews, its rating is small in comparison. But, critics are more than happy about the game, citing its evocative visuals, moving storyline, and captivating emotionality.

Telling the story of a girl's internalized struggles in a fantastical kaleidoscope world, it's anything but grey, taking your breath away with every beautiful scene. It got its lowest scores from IGN and Metro who thought less about its heavy handed metaphor and barebones gameplay. With its rating of 8.26, Nomad Studios remains an indie studio to look out for.

6. Child of Light Ultimate Edition

Released on the PC and other consoles to in 2014, Ubisoft Montreal's strategy platformer should've been an easy pickings for the charts. Inspired by classic fairy tales and medieval myths, this RPG rekindles that childish spark of wonder with its storybook-like atmosphere. Aside from it's artstyle, it also compresses a lot of RPG mechanics within its limited sidescrolling formula.

According to Nintendo life, the game lets you personalize the adventure with their skill trees and gain buffs with the gem crafting system. A novelty among others in the genre, Child of Light brightens whether on the Switch or out. Though suffering some framerate issues, it doesn't do too much to dull its brilliance. A Provisional PlayScore of 8.35

5. Hyper Light Drifter - Special Edition

One of the most mesmerizing indie titles of late, Hyper Light Drifter paints a paradoxical picture of a ruined world, bathed in neon colors and absolutely stunning in all its pixel perfection. Set in an era where past meets future, play as a drifter that sets out to find a cure to his mysterious illness and his world's broken history. Garnering nothing but high 8s across the board, the Switch experience is special in itself with exclusive features like the Tower Climb challenge on top of new skills, weapons, and outfits. Despite its age, the special edition leaves players with an almost new yet still rewarding experience. A masterpiece made portable, it has a rating of 8.38

4. Ikaruga

Treasure’s trigger happy bullet hell game isn’t gonna go easy on you. Released way back 2014, your mission is to shoot and dodge in this vertigo-inducing shoot ‘em up. Take control of a rebel pilot named Shinra as he battles an enemy nation using his signature ship called the Ikaruga.

What makes this game so addicting is its fancy twist of the shoot ‘em up and bullet hell genre. Players can control the Ikaruga’s polarity so that it can absorb incoming bullets and deal even greater damage to enemies. Too bad this kind of genre won’t be as appreciated as the other Switch games on this list. It receives a Provisional PlayScore of 8.39.

3. NBA 2K19

It’s no surprise 2K Games’ latest NBA game won’t make it to the Switch. It’s a multiplatform industry and at this point we can pretend every 2K game can be playable on an oven and it’s still sounds about right.

2K19 celebrates 20 years of everyone’s favorite basketball superstars. It features the most realistic graphics NBA 2K has to date, and it offers groundbreaking game modes especially its new open-world setting called Neighborhood. Unfortunately, this massive triple A entry didn’t quite hit the Switch limelight due to numerous reasons including technical issues, bad reception and maybe, its uninterested demographic. It has a PlayScore of 8.41.

2. Sid Meier’s Civilization VI

2 years ago, nobody expected Firaxis’ turn-based strategy game would make it to the Switch. Although it’s best played on the PC due to efficient micromanaging, the Switch version isn’t trying to intimidate new players with its complex gameplay. Instead, it offers intuitive controls, tutorial modes, and it even includes the latest packs and improvements to make the experience better.

Civ VI is just like your any other Civ game. Too bad it was buried with the big games that were released during November of last year. Especially Pokemon Let’s Go.

Nonetheless, fans of the franchise and new ones that take pride in their ever growing Civilization will be grateful for this Switch port. It has a PlayScore of 8.45.

1. Guacamelee! 2

Although it’s one of PC’s most acclaimed platformers, DrinkBox Studios’ action-adventure platformer isn’t very much known on the Switch. H eck, some players wouldn’t even know that this game was out on the platform.

This underrated game is a love letter to Mexican culture. As a sequel to the original Guacamelee, players return to the shoes of luchador Juan as he goes out of retirement for a stunning new adventure. Fend off skeletal monsters, overcome challenges, solve puzzles, unlock power-ups and brave through the land of the living and the dead with the game’s beautiful art style. It receives a PlayScore of 8.55.

The State of Video Gaming: A 2018 Year-end Report

Genesis Alpha One for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Set in a near future, experience self-destructive regimes and corrupt policies in this roguelike shooter from Radiation Blue. To save humanity from these corporation tyrants, lead your Genesis Ship and be the best Captain the galaxy has ever known. Travel to the great unknown and manage your space vessel, farm resources and at the same time, deal with terrifying alien infestations. It’s a mix of hardcore first person shooter with roguelike elements and ship-customization features.

Every journey you take is randomly generated. Discover new planets, encounter asteroid fields, or survive hostile encounters as you explore the void.

But it’s not just that, develop your own army by cloning your crew and use ground-breaking technologies to create new lifeforms. Collect resources from various planets and upgrade your mothership while you’re at it. It’s a promising sci-fi shooter that comes out this January 2019 on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Aftercharge for the PC, Xbox One, and Switch

Pump up some neon and use your first person shooter skills in this 3 versus 3 competitive shooter from Chainsawesome Games. Engage in fun neon-lit skirmishes against invisible robots against invincible security squads.

The game is divided into two teams: One party tries to sneak around to destroy all the energy extractors on the site while the other defends them from surprise attacks. Do whatever it takes to strategically defend and attack your opponent’s tactics before they can make a move.

Offering a unique visual experience, it features asymmetrical characters where each character offers widely different abilities to vary your team’s strategy. Aside from that, online multiplayer and matchmaking makes every experience worthwhile as you play with other players from across the globe. It comes out this January 2019 on the PC, Xbox One and the Switch.

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead for the PC and Xbox One

Aww man the Walking Dead games can’t seem to catch a break. We’ve known how huge Robert Kirkman’s Zombie franchise is, but we’ve never been given good games to deal with. Telltale’s very own Walking Dead is already down in the dumpster now, and Starbreeze’s latest Walking Dead isn’t really a fun game to play on the PC.

This time, Overkill, creators of Payday, decides to put our zombie-survival fantasies in Overkill’s The Walking Dead. Based on the critically-acclaimed source material, players will be left to survive in a doomed Washington DC. The game’s focus on co-op is a game-changer compared to previous Walking Dead games.

There will be role-playing elements present throughout the game and also stealth mechanics. Not to mention VR is supported! Currently out on Steam way back November 6, it didn’t get good feedback. The game suffers from a myriad of issues including unsatisfying combat, repetitive gameplay and technical issues. Although it’s not the end for the game yet, we’re hoping they manage to resolve most of their issues once they release it on the PS4 and Xbox One this February 6, 2019.

Far Cry: New Dawn for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Far Cry's upcoming installment is welcoming a new dawn in more ways than one. Amidst their sea of white, male leads, this new title brings--not one--but two BLACK female leads to center stage. There was a bit of a fuss around that, especially along with the rather bland box-art tease that came along with it. But now that the world is in full view, boy does it look good. Set in a post apocalyptic paradise in full superbloom, Far Cry New Dawn's revamped Hope County is budding with the promise of their signature guns and vehicles gameplay.

It continues the story of Far Cry 5's countryside cult as its citizens fight for survival 17 years after. The first direct sequel in a while, we'll all prepare to meet some familiar faces from the past title. Making up for their recycled, albeit renewed world, the game will feature an Expedition mode to add more variety. It's set to release on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 15th, 2019.

Metro Exodus for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Deep Silver's take on a Russian nuclear fallout is getting its third installment and it's gonna mark many changes for the series. Based on the novel, Metro 2033, the series has been known for exploration of the underground transit system. But, with this latest entry, Exodus finds its characters out of their familiar environments and into the vast and beautiful hostile Moscow wilderness. With this change in landscapes, comes even more ways of broadening the gaming horizons. Exodus will also feature large scale levels that will feel like an open world experience.

Setting the stage for exploration with four different hub worlds according to the seasons, there will be so much more suprises to discover. Dive deeper into the world of survival witha host of new weapons, a brand new inventory, and an innovative crafting system that will feel a lot like Last of Us. A stunning and scary survival shooting experience, it's set to release on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this Feb 22, 2019

RAGE 2 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Sure, the post apocalypse is an oversaturated place, but you might want to reserve some love for Bethesda's sequel to their over the top shooter. The next chapter in their chaotic RAGE series, this sequel takes us to a new color-splashed land of discord and disenchantment. Combining the heavyweight forces of id Software and Avalanche studios, we get a culmination of their videogame specialties--from Doom's shooting, Mad Max's vehicular action, and Just Cause's dedication to destruction. All that combined makes for a fantastic open world romp.

Set in a seamless world of Cronenberg level ugliness, bask in the radioactive glow with last ranger, Walker, as your tour guide. What sets this title apart is, unlike Royale-crazed FPS competitors, RAGE keeps faithful to their singleplayer experience. drive around in radioactive sewers, mow down mutants, and maybe get some powers along the way. It's set to release on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One Spring 2019

Insurgency: Sandstorm for the PS4 and Xbox One

Focus Home Interactive's tactical FPS aims to bring the best of both tactical military simulations and fast paced shootouts into one package. Starting out as a humble Half-Life 2 mod, Sandstorm shows just how far they've come. Engage in lethal close quarters combat and fulfill objectives with your squad. What makes this game so good is the intensity of modern combat and its high quality sound design which makes you really think you’re inside the warzone.

Customize your character and head straight into the game. Coordinate with your team, smash down your enemy defenses, and ride vehicles with machine guns. Powered by the Urneal Engine 4, the visuals are just icing on the cake.

Despite some performance issues on the PC, there have been plenty of positive reviews coming out for their BETA phase, so we can’t wait until this game comes out on the PlayStation 4 and XBox One this 2019.

DOOM Eternal for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch

id Software's sequel to their Doom 2016 and it’s not fooling around this time.

A huge improvement from their 1993 classic, and obviously an upgrade from their 2016 reboot. This sequel takes us back to the shoes of the Doom Slayer who's hell-bent on destroying whatever demon comes in his way. With the added mobility of his grapple-powered super shotgun, huge visual overhaul and an army of murdering demons, players can get right into their action. Not to mention it’s updated Glory Kill system makes pulverizing these pesky creatures satisfying.

Making up for their questionable multiplayer mode way back 2016, Doom Eternal introduces a whole new multiplayer content that will please old and new fans. Eternal’s invasions are coming to fill that void, letting you dive into other player's campaigns as the demons themselves. With its gameplay trailers, videos, and teasers, it’s raising the bar for an already legendary shooter. It comes out sometime this 2019 on the PC, PlayStation Xbox One and Switch.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One

For a series that began in the pixel-rich days MS DOS, Wolfenstein has enjoyed a remarkable longevity. Lucky for the Wolfenstein series, the nazi-killing never gets old. A year or two after their recent Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, this standalone spinoff will see protagonist BJ Blazkowiz relinquishing the center stage to his two twin daughters. Set in the alternate 1980s, play as either Jessica or Sophia, and help them navigate the Nazi-infested dystopia. Taking a break from the main campaign, this brand new co-op adventure is Machinegame's best answer to the Wolfenstein 3 void.

While there's not much info on the actual co-op mechanics, from what we've seen in the trailers, the two characters will each have their own fighting styles which makes for an exciting Wolfenstein experience. Work together with a friend to infiltrate the narrow streets of Paris. Something to fill the void before Wolfenstein 3, it's set to release on the PC,PS4, and Xbox One in 2019

Generation Zero for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One

We already know we're getting good stuff from Avalanche studios, but this latest title is out to prove it once more. Set in 1980s Sweden...take a dip into the explosive world of this FPS ...where hostile machines lurk around the otherwise serene countryside. An open world action game, participate in a game of cat and mouse and fight back against the hordes of metal machinery. It's world of hunt or be hunted, so use their creative sandbox environments to guerilla your way out of a tight spot. Whether its luring, crippling, outright destroying the enemy--you'll have free reign to choose your own tactics.

While Generation Zero has a choice of solo gameplay, you can also gather ‘round up to three of your friends in their seamless co-op multiplayer. Featuring a full day and night cycle, complete with unpredictable weather, as well as a complex and continually learning AI, the Generation Zero feels like it'll be an explosively immersive ride. It's set to release on the PC,PS4, and XB1 in 2019

Descent for the PC, PS4,Xbox One and the Switch

With reboot after reboot coming out from long established videogame giants, it's safe to say that the 90s are definitely making a comeback. Everyone's just rushing to get that stroll through memory lane. Now, with the help of Descendant Studios and Little Orbit, the iconic 3D spacecraft FPS is finally getting the star treatment. Showered with a well-deserved graphical makeover, the Descent of our childhood days remains true to its roots. Get behind the wheel of their spacepods and enjoy the six degrees of freedom reborn.

For this reboot, there will be 20 different ships on offer, each with distinct roles in the crossfire, for different kinds of playstyles. If you're one of the many people that loved the first and second installments of the original, then this is nothing short of pure joy. Relive your childhood memories when it comes out on the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and the Switch this first quarter of 2019

Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Hold up, this is not your usual Wolfenstein game. For the first time in the series, kill Nazis in Virtual Reality. Yes, you heard that right. This first person shooter is set 20 years after the events of The New Colossus and players assume the role of a Hacker working for the French. But instead of the good ol’ Nazi shooting, you spend most of your time hacking Nazi robots and turning them against their creators.

Aside from that, the best thing about this VR shooter is it avoids the rail-free experience. Players are not bound by camera restrictions and super scripted scenarios like the Rambo videogame. It allows the player to enjoy the freedom of a first person shooter, while at the same time killing more of Hitler’s goons.

It’s coming out sometime this 2019 on the HTC Vive, and the PlayStation VR.

The Outer Worlds for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One

This is a welcome surprise during the 2018 Game Awards. It’s a bit of a stretch to call this the real successor of Fallout. But with the disappointing release of Fallout 76, it might as well be. Directed by the creators of Fallout and currently being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the team that brought us Fallout New Vegas and South Park: Stick of Truth.

You play as a colonist who just woke up from a long hibernation on a colony at the edge of the galaxy… a colony that’s on a verge of destruction caused by corporate greed. There are little info on the actual gameplay, the loadouts available, how big the world is, the factions, and other minute details. We’ll have to wait for more details leading to the launch.

Keep in mind that there might be delays. The Outer Worlds is expected to release on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime this 2019.

Blood Remastered Edition

Nightdive Studios, a studio whose mission is to bring lost and forgotten gaming treasures back, are going to hit us with another nostalgic hit with the remake of the classic PC FPS by Monolith Productions from 1997. The Original was said to be one of the most underrated shooters of the decade.

If you can’t guess from the title, it’s a horrific shooter with cult-ish themes. This remaster will borrow its retro-futuristic looks from the original, only with updates that will make it more compatible with the current gen systems -- AND THAT’S IT! The developers said that they want to preserve what made the original so special and then make the experience better for contemporary audiences.

For now, all we know is that it may be out on the PC sometime in 2019.

Scavengers

Another game announced at the recent Game Awards. This one puts us in the shoes of space-faring soldiers who must band together so they can survive the dangers that lurk in this alien planet.

After the planet’s natural dangers are conquered, that’s when the real fun starts -- a winner-take-all battle! If Midwinter Entertainment could develop a game that could perfectly balance survival, cooperation AND competition, ALL OF US WOULD WIN. That would just be extremely cool. Make it happen. No pressure.

For now, we don’t know much about the game including how many players could play per match nor when the actual game will get released.

So, go right ahead and reserve yourself a slot to beta playtest the game while we all collectively hope that Scavengers will be released sometime in 2019.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards

Time to roll out the red carpet for this Royal Final Entry to the much-beloved Shovel Knight saga. In it, we aid the gilded King Knight as he goes on a quest of self-discovery. Included in this new adventure are new signature movies like bash, spinning strike, and bounding about in the pixel caverns. It even has a card battle mode that lets you fight against your subjects across the land.

With this imminent release of the royal King of Cards expansion, the Shovel Knight series is coming to an explosive close. Supposedly releasing in 2018, at least we're seeing that so many suprises are in store for us--and all coming free or bargain price at most. Pouring all their tender-loving care and topping it with the completely new multiplayer Showdown mode, the delays will definitely be worth it in the end. It's set to release on Apr 9, 2019

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn

With Mario and Yoshi already basking in the sun of their own papercraft world, it was only about time for Good Feel to bring the same to Nintendo's favorite pink fluffball. A remake of the hit 2010 Wii Original, Kirby warps into the 3DS with all his exciting stages intact, and of course, popped up with awesome new abilities and features. Like a 2D version of Yoshi's Wolly World, Extra Yarn takes Kirby out for a fun jaunt around the quilted Patchland to collect beads, and craft yarn balls that are bigger than ever before.

In the high speed Devilish mode and their new minigames, the familiar faces of King Dedede and Meta Knight are making return, creating some more space for enjoyment. A return to our childhood days, it's set to release in 2019.

Mighty No. 9

Hoo boy, are we really going to there again? Comcept’s spiritual successor to early Mega Man is a bit of a disappointment. What started out as an online Kickstarter campaign, it generated enough funds to make this full-fledged game with a ton of criticisms for its graphics, design, content, voice acting, story and technical performance.

But with this upcoming 3DS release, we’re hoping the developers learn their lesson and add a few patches and fixes to make the experience enjoyable. It’s not a terrible game per se, it just had its potential squandered by confusing game design decisions. No release date yet. It comes out sometime soon.

0000

The second title from Ratalakia Games. 0000 is a platformer with tough mechanics. Packed with over 100 handmade levels where you leap and dodge to their intense and rhythmic beats. It looks simple, but it’s punishing platforming mechanics make you not want to play this game ever again.

Players can also invite others from its multiplayer mode called Race Mode where players go head to head against a friend to see who’s the master of the this genre.

But beneath its unforgiving difficulty, the game makes it up for its collection of electronic music, fantastic level designs, and the beauty of 8bit visuals. No release date yet, but we’re hoping it comes out soon.

Etrian Odyssey Nexus

Atlus' award winning dungeon crawling RPG series is getting its sixth mainline title. Known as the Etrian Odyssey X in Japan, the rest of the world is holding its breath to get their hands on their latest entry. Just a over two years after Etrian Odyssey V, they have woven us yet another epic adventure to the world tree Yggdrasil, this time, by the orders of Princess Persephone.

Combining the strengths of their past titles in this final game for the 3DS, Nexus will be serving up RPG delights with up to 19 playable classes, "a grand standalone story," and a bunch of new labyrinths to discover. The wait is almost over, as it gets a Western release on February 5th, 2019.

YO-KAI WATCH 3

And speaking of successful RPG series on the 3DS, LEVEL 5 answers to the demands with another installment of the adorably energetic Yo Kai Watch series. Spawned from the perfect formula for a long lasting series, Yo Kai Watch revolves around making friends and summing to battle the feline-like versions of Japanese Yokai. This third installment, Yo Kai Watch 3 was released in Japan in two versions last 2016.

For this western releases however we're yet to find out if it keeps up with the split versions or if it goes with the Sukiyaki version that combines both into one package. What we do know, is it's gonna be another round of spirit-collecting, monster battling fun when it comes out on Feb 8th, 2019

Vera Swings

A simple platformer game with an addictive premise. Go to the moon and achieve Vera’s dreams about swinging the stars and up to the magical place she wants to visit. Use the stars to swing back and forth to overcome obstacles. Time your swings just right and catch colorful stars to unlock the next power-up.

There’s really not much to talk about this game. It’s a pure and unadulterated indie adventure experience. Just take her to the moon for us. No release date yet, but it’s coming out sometime soon.

Shakedown Hawaii

After more than a few years of silence, the long awaited follow-up to Retro City Rampage looks like its finally ready to come out of development hell. Another 8bit inspired title, Shakedown Hawaii follows its predecessor as it breaks down the door into the the chaotic world of organized crime. Like an upgrade to the retro Grand Theft Auto we loved--and, not just in graphics either, creators VBlank also provides us with a blank canvas of open world delights.

Set out to the 2D streets and rise up in the world with every mission, shakedown, sabotage, and property acquisition. While the continuous delays are taking a toll on their credibility, the excitement is still undoubtedly up for the title. Hoping it'll meet the deadline, it's set to release early 2019

RISE: Race The Future

One of the games that have occupied our upcoming lists for a while now. Opening to a positive response with its release on the PC, RISE is shaping up to be one impressive racing game on the portable console. From the same people behind the 3DS shooter, Ironfall: Invasion, VD-Dev's venture into racing is looking equally good.

Strutting their style with subtle controls, high-octane racing and gorgeous visuals, RISE would be a great addition to the 3DS' arcade racing lineup--if it ever comes. Unfortunately, though, there's not a lot of news coming out for their 3DS port, especially since the passing of their co-founder. Perhaps aiming for a Switch release, the 3DS port might not be long behind. No release date yet.

Timespinner

Bringing inspiration from classic pixel games like Castlevania and Metroid, Timespinner takes a turn in bending the reality of time and space. In this Metroidvania platformer, avenge your parents as you travel back through time and defeat the evil empire responsible for their demise.

Discover a rich and beautiful world with pixel art visuals, meet mysterious familiars to train you in battle, face challenging bosses, and locate secrets like a classic metroidvania adventure should do.

After its successful Kickstarter campaign, it’s finally out on the PC and it pleased longtime Castlevania and Metroid enthusiasts. It comes to the 3DS sometime soon.

PAW Patrol: On A Roll

Dog Lovers, unite! No job is too big or too small for these adorable creatures. Save the day in Adventure Bay on 16 exciting rescue missions. Help each pup and use their unique abilities to secure the safety of the community.

Travel to various locations in the bay including Yumi’s Farm, Jake’s Mountain, Desert Canyon and so many more! Solve puzzles, save animals in danger, and get ready for a kid-friendly adventure for all ages!

Buy it for your little brother, sister, or anyone young at heart and let them enjoy the PAW Patrol experience. No release date yet, but it’s coming out soon.

Super Mighty Power Man – The Champion of the Galaxy

A genuine 2-D action-platformer reminiscent to the classic games of the 80’s and 90’s. Play as Corey, a kid who finds himself in the most unexpected adventure to save the galaxy. Inspired by the popular SEGA hit, Mega Man, go on a rampaging journey to defend your world from the evil forces of General Mok.

With its true 8-bit NES visuals, it’s a fantastic trip back to the past but with a modern twist. Encounter countless creatures and defeat bosses by using your myriad of superpowers. It’s truly a love letter to the days of old, and a reminder that videogames like these are still making waves in 2019. No release date yet.

Jake Hunter Detective Story: Ghost Of The Dusk

Part of the mystery adventure game series developed and published by Data East way back 1987. This latest title is developed by Arc System Works and published by Aksys Games.

Play as the eponymous Jake Hunter as he enters a haunted house filled with dark secrets. Solve a grueling mystery of a curse that threatens the nature of his career, his life, and the haunted house.

This new chapter of the Jake Hunter saga comes with five additional tales of detectives, danger, deduction and death. It’s Sherlock Holmes meets Japan, and it’s coming out soon. Unfortunately, no release date yet.

League of Evil

Ravenous Games is giving us a hunger for justice in this new platform adventure game. Created in that ubiquitous retro style, League of Evil takes us to the seat of the arcadestyle action amid blocky stages and chiptune tracks. Using your acrobatic skills, jump about from level to level, punch enemies, and defeat the league of evil scientists, almost in the style of the classic Megaman series. Unpack the 4 chapters spread over 140 levels, or create your own chaos in their level editor.

Already on the Steam, Switch, and smartphones, League of Evil is a success among critics and gamers, with many praising its addictive, fast-paced gameplay and captivating animations. No release date yet

Persona Q2

Only ATLUS can milk a franchise so hard they have spin-offs of a spin-off. This is a sequel to a different kind of Persona game that was released on the DS way back 2014. Canon or not, this whole new story takes you to your favorite Persona characters from 3, 4 and on this title, 5.

After the events of the Shadow Of The Labyrinth, Q2 or the New Cinema Labyrinth is another take on the Dungeon-crawling spinoff. It focuses on chibified versions of our favorite persona characters including the Phantom Thieves. No release date on the US yet, but it’s coming out soon.

Operation COBRA

A game that should or shouldn’t be on this list but the 3DS can only get so many games lately, we decided to include this instead. Stranded in an unfamiliar place filled with the blocky undead, your only hope is to fight off the zombies to make it out alive.

It’s a pretty weird game. Developed by StickBit, it mixes bad UI elements alongside shooter elements with ridiculous monster design. Not only you have to escape this zombie-filled island, you have to endure a mixed-bag of confusing game design and an uninspired premise. Even the game’s title is so out of place. It comes out sometime soon.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey

The second in their series of Nintendo DS remakes, the 3DS is gonna be a haven for Bowser character development with this twofold package. Go on adventures as the iconic Mario brothers and roam around the kingdom of mushrooms, toads and troopas, to put a stop to Bowser's evil plans. But, that's not all. This edition edition will also include a new sidestory in Bowser's Junior's quest for domination--gathering armies and wreaking havoc in the comfort of his Junior Clown Car. Moving out of the limits of the DS, the game will obviously come with a host of graphical upgrades and refinements to fit the new gen platform.

One of the most acclaimed Mario and Luigi RPG titles made cleaner and better, it's set to release on Jan 11, 2019

Top 25 Upcoming Games of 2019, 2020 & Beyond

Build it Up

When you think of android games, you think casual. In my opinion, developer Sleeeeep Fly and publisher Yodo1 games did an excellent job at making an addictively frustrating game.

During the event, they let us play 5 out of 15 mini games in Build it Up… all of them involving two characters that look like black-and-white versions of minions. In some levels they are dueling with each other; other times they simply want to kiss… but if you miss, they impale each other instead. How romantic?
You can get this game at the Google Play Store. It has a Provisional Playscore of 7.29.

Bounc.io

If a contest of who could better control their balls is what you are looking for, then look no further than Bounc.io from Mochibits!

Play as a robot shooting bouncy balls at numbered blocks. The faster you clear your screen and the more blocks you break, the bigger your score is. Whoever got the lowest score at the end of the minute-long game or lets a brick touch the floor is the loser. To be part of the winner’s club, be sure to use all your power ups.

You can go head to head with other players in the other side of the internet, OR you can challenge one of your friends. As a bonus for you guys, if you put Mochibits as the name of the game room before November ends, you’ll receive a special robot. So, you better hurry up and download this game on the Google Play Store with a Provisional Playscore of 9.36

Tank Raid

Next up is a tank filled MOBA from WolfFun

These are not your usual, everyday tanks though. From their collection, you can choose from up to 35 different, colorfully-deadly upgradable tanks… all with their own unique signature attacks that you will want to flaunt as you go on to war in their 7 stunning alien arenas.

Right now, there are three game modes, a 3v3 Galaxy Football, 3v3 Team Deathmatch, or if you are a solo rider, a 1v4 Deathmatch. They will also be releasing soon a 1v4 Survival mode.

Unfortunately, the latest build disabled the joystick controls. Hopefully, on their next monthly update, they’ll enable it again. Till then, you can get this game at the Google Play Store with a Playscore of 8.80.

Craft Warriors

Here we have this 3D real-time strategy game from Translimit Inc. There are many parties to choose from: from medieval soldiers, to roman warriors, to ninjas, and of course, bloody pirates, to name a few.

You build your base by restoring a “Skyland” to its former glory. Form your own party and customize them. You could even go as far as having a team of Iron Spiders if you wished -- or, you can unleash your creativity and craft your very own original character.

So, gather up your loyal squad and attack the neighboring towns! You can get this game now at the Google Play Store. It has a Provisional Playscore of 9.

Cosmic Wars

For the next game on our list, we’re taking you to the heavens with Cosmic Wars, developed by Cosmic Owl.

It’s a post-apocalyptic game where you travel through space, collect resources and build these badass, and truthfully, intimidating spaceships. After you make the most intense freaking ship the universe has ever seen, battle other players across the cosmos in 1v1 battles.

Unfortunately, right now, this game is only available in Korean, but, don’t worry, the developers are working hard for a world-wide release.

By the way, this game is not the easiest to find because the title, at least for now is in Korean. If you want to play it and all the other games I mentioned in this list, make sure to check out our links in the description box!

Also, if you want to check out my G-Star vlog, head on over to whatoplay LIVE, our second channel, link right over here.

MazM: Jekyll and Hyde

MazM reimagines another well known piece of literature. This time, it’s the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyne as an adventure game.

The story follows Mr. Utterson as he tries to uncover the mystery surrounding this sinister fellow named Mr. Hyde who allegedly stepped on a little girl, breaking her bones as if it was nothing. This strange, brutal man is apparently connected to Dr. Jekyll, a personal friend of Mr. Utterson.

You can play the whole story to the end without ads, but if you want to lay your eyes on some spooky artwork that captures the late 19th Century London’s atmosphere, then you’ll have to spare a few shillings. This gothic game is available now on the Google Play Store with a Playscore of 9.40.

Trick Art Dungeon

Playing G1 Playground’s Trick Art Dungeon was like visiting the museum of my childhood dreams. In it, you play as a lost child trying to find his parents in a museum filled with many historical artifacts, art, and of course the namesake, some optical illusions.

Unfortunately, this award winning, mind bending game is still not available world wide. Let’s keep our fingers crossed as we hope for a global release.

Trillionia

Are you sick and tired of the ol’ Monopoly game that destroys relationships? Worry not, Skytree digital has anime-fied the classic game. For the first parts of the game, you play as Prince Richard the Chicken on his quest to make his first Trillion in Trillionia.

Instead of relying solely on your luck and rolling a dice, in this you also have to use your brain. Your cards will have different move number ranges and can be used in tandem with magic cards and race cards.

Cute characters, intuitive and strategic gameplay, on top of a very funny dialogue make this a fun game to pass the time with. Available now at the Google Play Store with a Playscore of 7.42

Lanota

Another staple in mobile gaming is Rhythm Games. But, with the extreme competition between rhythm games on Google Play right now, how the heck do you stand out? By not only having award winning audio, but also a really unique gameplay, that’s how!

In Lanota, instead of just pounding on the beats that come at you through a straight line like the rhythm games of old, this time, you play on a circular board that turns and moves as you play. Lanota is not just about the music, though. It’s also a picture book that follows the story of a boy and a girl on their adventures in this beautiful hand drawn world.

Experience all the satisfaction a well made rhythm game can give you when you download Lanota on the Play Store. It has a Provisional Playscore of 9.40
