Top 25 Upcoming Xbox One Games of 2019, 2020 & Beyond

15. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Whether or not you liked Andrew Garfield's run as the friendly neighborhood Spider-MAn , at the very least, the android gaming world got a pretty decent open world game. While it lets you sling your webs round a miniature Manhattan, it seems like it was far too much for most smartphones. But 4 years after release, and using today's gadget lineup, the gameg is an impressive enough title for the Spidey fan looking for open world combat. It has a PlayScore of 7.55

14. ARK: Survival Evolved

Dedicated to anyone who wants a portable ARK: Survival Evolved experience, this Android version is more or less similar to the PC original. And not only is it portable, it's also a free-to-play game, albeit with the run of the mill microtransactions. Roam around the Island wilderness and live another day amid prehistoric threats. Running smoothly at least on some devices, its marred by its iffy controls and optimizations. It has a PlayScore of 7.66

13. Growtopia

No, this isn't just another Minecraft or Terraria clone. It might be even bigger than the two, at least when it comes to open exploration. While it's not a seamless world to roam around in, Growtopia offers thousands upon thousands of hubworlds for players to explore, decorate, or create. Doubling as an MMO, be warned there might be some issues of griefing, and even theft. But, as a brick-breaking, dog eat dog world, for creative expression and friend-making, it has a PlayScore of 7.71

12. Terraria

It’s like Minecraft, but not really -- it’s really it’s own thing. You can quench your wanderlust in this pixelated side-scrolling, randomly generated wonderland. Just don’t wander too far on the east or west and you’ll face a perilous swamp or a giant floating skull. BUT, if you dig down, literally, in game, you’ll find that the exploration possibilities in Terraria is ENDLESS.

As Hardcore Droid puts it “Despite not being a very good platformer, Terraria successfully recreates the appeal of Minecraft with stronger roguelike elements to keep players motivated. It has a Playscore of 7.85

11. Order & Chaos 2: Redemption

A sequel to Gameloft's MMORPG series, you're up for another round of fantasy action in their living and breathing universe. Journeying with thousands of other players, the mobile MMO is packed with the essentials of PvP and optimized chats for parties to work together against colossal bosses. Although it's a great alternative for the WOW player on the go, there are some reports of Gameloft abandoning development for the title. As of the game, it's still a functional title, and it has a PlayScore of 7.93

10. Goat Simulator

Oh man, this game was a meme and a half back in the day. If for some reason, you totally missed out on what Goat Simulator is all about, it’s all in the name -- it’s a Goat Simulator. Here, you are a goat doing goat things like jumping on a trampoline, destroying birthday parties, becoming prom queen, and becoming the devil goat itself.

In the newer gamer reviews over at the Playstore, opinions are mostly about how people think this glitchy game is funny in the best way, or it’s so glitchy it wont let them play. Currently, it has a Playscore of 7.99

9. RavenSword: Shadowlands 3d RPG

Following the events of the Fallen King, Ravensword continues its tale of medieval fantasy with a dash of prehistoric Dino-killing. While it's not exactly a state of the art videogame with its outdated graphics and hangups, it does work well for something that costs less than 10 dollars. Optimized at least for the smartphones of its time, Ravensword that's rife with monsters, weapons, and other RPG tropes, is happy enough to be your cheap, mobile, Skyrim alternative. It has a PlayScore of 7.99

8. Farming Simulator 18

When you were a kid, and someone asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up and you said you wanted to be a farmer ONLY to have your dreams crushed by reality?!? Well, pout no longer cause you can now live your best farm life dream in Farming Simulator! Livestock, CHECK! Crops, CHECK! FARMING VEHICLES CHECK, CHECK, CHECK! Pocket Gamer has this to say about this game: “It's definitely not for everyone, but Farming Simulator 18 is the absolute best example of a simulator on mobile.” And with that, a Playscore of 8.04

7. Simple Planes

Mechanical Engineers, Pilots, and Plane Enthusiasts, get a load of this one! Simple Planes make building and designing planes, well, SIMPLE. Snap parts together, and boom! You got the plane of your dreams. Test how it flies, and when it crashes, and it will... enjoy the super realistic physics this game runs on, do it all over again. You can do everything to do with planes in this game -- from building, to painting to flying, to comparing with other players. Well isn’t that FLY. Simple Planes is soaring with Playscore 8.09

6. GTA: Chinatown Wars

It’s good to see old portable games making its way to the mobile. One of Rockstar’s side-projects after the success with GTA IV prompts them to go back to their roots and embrace the portable market.

This thirteenth game of the series takes you to a top-down open world adventure set in Liberty City. It still shares the same gameplay mechanics from all GTA games including stealing cars, shooting stuff, buying stuff, and crime, except its on a different camera perspective reminiscent to its original titles. It has a PlayScore of 8.11

5. Minecraft: Pocket Edition

Oof, there’s no denying Microsoft’s sandbox open world is a record-breaking success. Set in a sprawling world where everything is polygonal in nature, rebuild this empty universe by crafting, mining, brewing, and even enchanting blocks to making the perfect world to live in. You can even call a friend and let them help you in its multiplayer feature.

Just like its other versions, this voxel-based game is divided into five different modes including Survival, Creative, Hardcore, Adventure and Spectator. What you do is up to you. It has a PlayScore of 8.15

4. Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition

Starvation isn’t the only thing that you should worry about in this game -- there are super aggressive bees, werepigs (werewolf pigs), hounds that will come hunt you ever so often, and of course, Charlie, the night monster, who will snuff your life off if you don’t have any light source. Doesn’t that sound like so much fun!

Android Guys’ review that pushed this game to have a full Playscore reads: “It’s pricier than many mobile games on the market, but it offers a full console-quality experience that’s worth the price of admission.”
An insanely fun game with a Playscore of 8.39

3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The most popular GTA game before GTA even exploded into the videogame market. From the classic cheat list, the violent killing sprees, stealing cars, and insane modding, San Andreas is a staple of open-world wonder. And it’s on the Android.

It’s basically the same game. Follow the life of CJ as he makes a name for himself in the quaint little city of San Andreas. Drive around the streets, make yourself at home at Grove Street, and befriend gang members in the middle of a grueling gang war. It has a PlayScore of 8.72

2. Sorcery! 3

Inkle Ltd’s epic open-world narrative adventure is as stunning as ever in this third installment. An adaptation of the best-selling gamebook from Steve Jackson, this entry takes you to a magical world filled with monsters, traps, and magic, all in glorious hand-drawn format.

With its choose-your-own-adventure playstyle, every single campaign is different and it clearly emphasizes its true RPG elements. Learn new spells, meet five major gods, and brace yourself for an genuine epic quest. It has a PlayScore of 8.97

1. Crashlands

After crash landing from a mysterious hostile planet, help your character survive from an extraterrestrial freakshow. Do whatever it takes to survive and thrive in its gorgeous sandbox open world filled with alien shenanigans.

Crashlands is a work of art, considering it offers a multitude of beautifully drawn designs and animations. Play alone, or with friends in its multiplayer cross-platform mode. Explore the vast wilderness, craft weapons and items, and fight against the dangers of the new world. It has a PlayScore of 9.10

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom

For Game Atelier's platformer, the legend has only just begun. Making a switch from motion-based animation to a friendlier hand-darwn artstyle was probably the best choice for the series. If you're a fan of Lizardcube's platform action adventure, Wonder Boy, then this is right up your alley. Made under the keen eye of Wonderboy creator Nishizawa, it occupies that same boy adventurer trope. Take on the shoes of the brave protagonist as he fights against fantastical creatures with this his powers of transformation.

Cursed as the eponymous kingdom is, the game is decidedly vibrant, especially in full HD. It's set to release this December 4th.

Atelier Arland Series Deluxe Pack

There's plenty of magic to go around in this back to back to back package of the beloved Arland series. Already released in Japan, it's about time the deluxe alchemical edition makes it to western shores. This will include the three remastered titles of the series, namely the adventures of Ateliers Rorona, Totori, and Meruru. This deluxe pack will also include a bunch of its previously released DLCs.

Buy all three and you'll get all its turn-based battles, visual novel style storytelling, and alchemy for a discounted price. A comprehensive digital only package for RPG fans, it's set to release on December 4th.

Gear.Club Unlimited 2

Coming in at almost the same time as its debut last year, Gear Club is gearing for what seems to be another Switch exclusive release. Getting a Provisional PlayScore of 6.68 with last year's premiere, it's safe to say that the series has a lot of room for improvement. This sequel aims to deliver with more than 1800 miles of roads to drive across using their array of realistically rendered cars. From snowy mountaintops to sandy deserts, there's definitely more to see.

Criticised for overly simplifying the racing genre, Gear.Club Unlimited 2 will hopefully need a bit more elbow grease. It's set to release on December 4th.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Going straight to the numbers, this most anticipated title will have a grand total 74 playable characters and up to 103 stages to play in. That's all your favorite characters from the N64 days up to the 3DS, with newbies like Inkling, Ridley, Simon, King K. Roo, Isabel, and the adorably feisty Incineroar. Also included are new echo fighters in Daisy, Dark Samus, Chrom, Richter, and Ken. On top of that, there’s the game-changing spirits, which are supporting characters from other games that come to give useful upgrades to your chosen fighter’s abilities.

But wait, there’s more, there’s also gonna be new brawling mechanics, gameplay modes like Squad Strike, Tourney, and Smashdown, as well as an overhauled online matchmaking that pairs you with like-minded smashers. The Smash Bros game to end all Smash Bros games. it's coming out on December 7th

Katamari Damacy REROLL

Building on their 2004 third-person puzzler for the PlayStation 2, the clumped spirits are taking their cosmic restoration missions to the modern generation. Remade into its now fully HD form, the classic Katamari world looks better than ever before. Help the pint-sized Prince in his quest to restore the cosmos, and take on each of their object-collecting challenges.

With some reviews already coming in, there's been some complaints about the game's fussy controls--something that seems to be remnant of its last-gen past. We'll have to find out how much the new motion control system will improve the experience. While it might be a little too faithful to the original, its many timeless aspects are enough to warrant a quick look. It's set to release on December 7th.

Hello Neighbor: Hide & Seek

If you're also wondering how that creepy neighbor in Tiny Build's stealth horror came to be, then this official sequel will hopefully answer all our questions. In Hello Neighbor, you play the trespassing neighbor to a paranoid would-be maniac powered by a continually learning AI that adjusts to your moves. As solid a premise as it was, the game received mixed reviews from both gamers and critics. Despite the backlash, developers are soldiering on, hoping to improve with new locations to sneak into in the neighbor’s happier past.

Opening up with an emotionally charged teaser, it's hard not to have some faith in the project. It's set to release this December 7th.

Dragon Marked For Death

Developed by the same team that brought us the now classic Megaman Zero series. Dragon Marked for Death captures the fast-paced, side-side scrolling battles of its predecessor… and paired it with multiplayer-focused challenges perfect for the Switch.

Players get to choose between four different characters, each with unique set of skills and attributes like the tanky Warrior; the fast and deceptive Shinobi; the fighter-support Witch; and the balanced fighter Princess.

Other than a Japanese gameplay and the trailer, we don’t have much details about the game. It does promise to deliver a massive world and some form of character customizations. Dragon Marked for Death is set to release this 13th of December.

Pipe Push Paradise

Not all plumbing games on the eShop have Mario in it. In Pipe Push Paradise, you are the plumber… on a mission to restore the island’s pipes? There’s not really a story here, just plain old sokoban-style puzzle with 47 levels you have to solve. The mechanics are almost exactly the same as other logic puzzles, just more difficult.

Its PC release, earlier this year, did not receive that much coverage. What little reviews it has are mostly praises, citing the game’s originality and fair difficulty progression. If this Switch version is a direct port of the PC original, we might be in for a puzzle treat. Pipe Push Paradise is releasing this December 20.

Blacksea Odyssey

The cosmos are a mysterious and scary place but we bet you've never imagined it like this. Taking interstellar battles to a whole new level, Blacksea Odyssey is an indie twin stick shooter with roguelite elements that promises hours of adrenaline-pumping action. Like most shoot 'em ups, it's simple graphics-wise but it compensates with slick and fast paced gameplay.

Released on the PC in 2016, Blacksea Odyssey has received very positive scores from critics and user reviewers. Now with this Switch port, it'll still be more singleplayer gaming but you can sail around the extremely destructible cosmic abyss wherever you go. It's coming out on Dec 20th 2018

Digerati Indie Bundle: INK & HackyZack

What with the rise of indie games on the Switch, Digerati decides to double up with this brilliant back to back feature. This indie bundle contains ZackBellGames' colorful platformer INK, as well as Spaceboy Games' ball-juggling HackyZack. Each being successful titles in their own right makes this a budget friendly bundle.

Whether it's testing your skills in the precision-platforming Zack, or speedrunning through the 75 levels of the world's first splatformer, there's something for platform fans to enjoy in each one. Both games are also co-op friendly titles, which let you enjoy the fun with a friend. It's set to release on December 20th.

Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition

Upgrading on an upgrade, Koei Tecmo's 2013 installment of their hack and slash series gets a definitive edition four years after the last expansion. It's a new dive into the histoic Three Kingdoms of China, with this new compilation that includes content from the original as well as the expansion. This means that players will get almost all of their released DLCs, from costumes to side story scenarios. Owners of the recent Warriors Orochi will also get save data bonus costumes.

Packing a bunch of DLCs into one title, it'll be like new fresh experience of their intense tactical battles. It's set to release on December 27th

Carcassonne

From the award-winning board-game Carcassone, this video game adaptation lets you build your own medieval world in full 3D. Just like the board game, enjoy its fun and tactical tile-placement gameplay. Players will draw and place tiles, each hoping to own features like roads, castles, and monasteries for points. The game is basically revolved around its very casual but challenging strategic layers.

Gather your friends and learn to become the best tactician with up to 4 players in local multiplayer. It comes out this December 2018

Desert Child

A chip off the old Kickstarter block, Oscar Brittain's racing RPG has no shortage of style. For starters, the game seems to rock its pixel aesthetics. While it's an artstyle that's been used and abused by indie developers the world over, it seems to encapsulate the cool, laidback, and almost hipster-y feel of Desert Child. Centered on a not-so distant future filled with hoverboarding and ramen-eating, it's really more than a racing game.

Packed with minigames and quirky humor, bump up your racing career by stealing parts, delivering pizzas, and winning races on the side. There have been a few delays, but the game’s beta is opening soon. We hope it’ll be a full release sometime this December

Treasure Stack

Jump, grapple and stack in this single and multiplayer puzzle experience from PIXELAKES. Mixing block puzzle mechanics and platformer elements, enjoy an adorable 8-bit game that takes you back to the classics with a slight touch of modernity.

Use your life-trained platforming skills and navigate the playing field by snatching falling blocks, and stacking them to create color-coded matches. With cross-play support, and a competitive online mode, it’s gonna be a platform delight. Unlock over a hundred cosmetics, stack anywhere with robust HD rumble support, and befriend your grappling hook to the ends of their world. It’s coming out this December 2018

Moto Racer 4

A port to the Switch that might be more bad news than good. Released on the PC and consoles back in 2016, the Anuman-developed racing game consistently received mixed to negative reviews across all plaforms. It's a damn shame, considering how gorgeous their promo photos look. Most reviewers cited its clunky control systems that lead to punishingly frustrating gameplay.

There were a few upsides though. Other than its beautiful visuals, Moto Racer 4 can also be enjoyed by arcade racing enthusiasts with an itch for a challenge. We can only speculate how it'll run on the Switch. Generally more of a warning, it's coming to the Switch on Nov 20th, 2018

RIDE 3 for the PC, PS4, Xbox One

Milestone S.r.l.’s latest racer takes you to different tracks from all over the world. Ride the most beautiful and powerful bikes ever crafted, customize every single detail, and feel the rush of adrenaline surging in every mile.

It’s unique Livery Editor lets you customize your chosen vehicles to your heart’s content. Fill every detail with your own touch, and hear it roar on the race track. It comes out this November 30 on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

V-Rally 4

The newest title after more than a decade long hiatus, this fourth installment in the V-Rally series hoped to bring new life back to the classic. Instead, it almost feels as if it was stuck in the past. Even in the capable hands of WRC developers, Kylotonn's level construction and presentation was overshadowed by its lackluster graphics and hard to pick up controls. Already released on the PC and Consoles, it ultimately received lukewarm reviews from both critics and gamers.

All hope is not lost though. If you're a 90s nostalgic with a Switch console, then this might be a treat. It's set to release Winter 2018.

Team Sonic Racing PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch

Looks like Sonic's got the need for MORE speed, because, this time, he won't be rolling around alone. Instead, he's hopping on some shiny new wheels alongside his favorite folks. This upcoming spinoff title is SEGA's answer to Nintendo's Mario Kart series, bringing together the whole cast for some feel good fun.

But, what sets it apart from most racers is its focus on co-op gameplay.
To see the full ranking, visit our list of the best hack and slash PC games of all time.

10. Attack on Titan 2

Hajime Isayama's manga turned anime turned videogame gets a sequel, giving all their *cough*weaboo fans the chance to relive their Titan-fighting moments. Featuring cel-shaded graphics that look straight outta comicbook pages, anime lovers will feel right at home. For newcomers to the franchise wondering how ever you could square off against the colossal humanoids, the answer....is grappling hooks. Become the new recruit and chase down those muscly beasts spiderman style through the familiar walled cities.

As much as it's improved on many of the first game's features, it’s mostly criticized for feeling more like a rehash than a full-blown title. Still, it has a PlayScore of 7.82

9. Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death

This is YOUR new breed of warrior. Probably borne out of a tongue-in-cheek pitch after a long day in the boardroom, Marlow Briggs might look like a joke but it seems to hit just the right notes. Excessively over the top and proud, take on the life of an angry man bestowed with ancient powers and help him restore sweet freedom to the world. It's nothing compared to the God of War series, but controls-wise it's pretty close.

Receiving fair scores at best from most critics, it's the gamers that brought it up the ranks. Considering it's ridiculous fun for cheap., it’s fair enough with a PlayScore of 7.94

8. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Now we're getting serious. As unexpected as this title was for the usually more stealth-focused Metal Gear franchise, Kojima is nonetheless impressive in his venture into hack and slash. Set four years after the events of MSG 4: Guns of the Patriots, play as the cyborg Raiden in her fight against the Desperado Enforcement. Yeah. It's as tacky as it sounds. But, in the capable hands of Bayonetta and Nier developer, Platinum Games, Kojima's vision becomes an acceptable and pretty badass treat.

So if you're like the normal person with a hard-on for ninja gaiden sword-slashing and don't mind a few camera glitches, then, chief, this is it. It has a PlayScore of 7.96

7. Strider

Strider might be a familiar name for fans of the genre, being as it's a remake of Capcom's 1989 platformer that became a massive influence to favorites like Devil May Cry and God of War. Sticking with its sidescrolling platformer roots, it's a far cry from the more liberating titles. It’s not any less stylish though. In fact, it’s distinctly futuristic in its portrayal of the Kazakh metropolis, and combat is just as fluid amd intense.

Faithful to its original, critics felt the game was "too safe" of a reboot but as an admirable effort to bring Strider to the modern age, it has a PlayScore of 8.1

6. Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition

Before the coming of Devil May Cry 5, we take a look back to the one of the greatest hack and slash games of all time. This time, Dante has a new friend. Following the events of the first Devil May Cry, get to know the new character Nero as he protects the city of Fortuna from pandemonium, one smackdown at a time.

For the first time in the series, players control two major characters: Nero and Dante, each with unique combat elements and storylines. Special Edition adds a buttload of new content to the game including playable characters like Vergil, Lady, and Trish. Alongside its new content, its polished to pure HD for that perfect demon smacking fun. It has a PlayScore of 8.25

5. Transformers: Devastation

From the team behind Bayonetta. This game delights you with a cacophony of clanking metal and transforming Alien robots in hack and slash fun. As autobots, your job is to protect the planet from the ravaging Insecticons and Constructicons, and eliminating the threats for good.

With Platinum Games’ golden touch, Devastation’s hack and slash gameplay flows with ease. Control one of the five iconic characters from the franchise including Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack and Grimlock. Together they do their job to safeguard humanity with their transforming powers. It plays a lot like Bayonetta--if she were a towering metal behemoth, instead of the sexy witch that she is. It has a PlayScore of 8.31

4. Darksiders

Released on the PC way back in 2010, THQ Nordic's action adventure remains as one of the defining titles in the genre. In a series yet to be completed, this first installment follows the misadventures of War personified. Bringing destructive chaos into the post apocalyptic Earth, hacking and slashing as the hellish horseman is almost a heavenly delight. The graphics may well be outdated by today's standards but it doesn't make it any less satisfying. Arm yourself with an array of weapons, solve a few puzzles, and bring down whatever towering creature stands in your way.

A stellar first impression, it has a PlayScore of 8.47

3. DmC: Devil May Cry

Hold up, before anyone goes crazy, this was a pretty decent Devil May Cry game. Ninja Theory’s very own take on CAPCOM’s iconic demon-slaying series may not be for everyone, but it does prove to be a great game in terms of its familiar elements.

A prequel reboot of some sorts, follow the origins of Dante and Vergil as they take down the evil Mundus from corrupting the world. Just like the original, engage in its frenzied hack and slash combat powered by impressive level designs and backed by a mesmerizing dubstep soundtrack. It receives a PlayScore of 8.71

2. Bayonetta

If there’s one video game character that can comfortably go toe to toe with Dante from Devil May Cry, it’s Bayonetta. SEGA’s badass heroine is lauded for her sexy personality and absurd fighting skills. Beat your enemies with the whip of her deadly locks, or shoot them with your majestic guns. Everything is possible when you’re a Hideki Kamiya character.

Just like most hack and slash games, its combat is fast-paced, button-mashing mayhem. It’s upcoming title, Bayonetta 3, is coming out very soon and we just can’t wait. It has a PlayScore of 8.84

1. And the best hack and slash game is Dead Cells

We might be in trouble, or we might not. As it is, Motion Twins' indie title is already a loveable jumble o’ genres. Without adding to it, the game happily complies with the heart of hack and slash, what with its intense and deliciously satisfying combat. In the hands of Dead Cells, death--usually the bane of a gamer's existence--becomes almost a happy incident, letting you retrace steps and kill monsters with even more gusto.

A welcome, albeit unexpected, addition to the roster, it has a PlayScore of 9.03

It's time for some ballon-popping action with the mighty monkeys of Ninja Kiwi. So much so that it spawned several tower defense titles, providing hours of fun to the fans of the genre.

Oozing with jaw-dropping visuals, 11 Bit Studios’ Tower-Defense game is nothing but gorgeous. Created by the folks behind This War Of Mine and Frostpunk, it's a bit ironic to find just how stunning their games can be. This second title in their Anomaly series boasts the same PC quality graphics, making each of their tower-destroying exploits a more satisfying experience.

More accurately described as "tower-offense", you control a fleet of vehicles bent on demolishing the massive structures of its alien invaders.
