This year was supposed to mark the arrival of the next generation of gaming consoles, but admittedly Sony and Microsoft feel like they’re playing a game of ‘price tag chicken.’ Now Microsoft has officially unveiled one of their next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series S.

Watch this:

Here’s also the official description:

Introducing Xbox Series S. Next-gen performance in the smallest Xbox ever. Experience the speed and performance of a next-gen, all-digital console at an accessible price point: $299 (ERP).*

Take note that the Xbox Series X is still the flasgship console of Microsoft and it will probably have better specs than the Series S.

Besides the lower price tag, the Series S is boasting a significantly smaller size; it also has no disk port, so all the games you can expect on this console have to be purchased digitally.

The console also doesn’t come with a fan like the Series X does, so it probably can’t play for as long as you want it to.

What’s more, Polygon has confirmed that the Series S and Series X will be launching on November 10 later this year. Hopefully we get a price tag on the Series X soon.

I have to say, this looks pretty impressive on Microsoft’s part, and that price tag for a next-gen system almost feels ridiculous. Besides some great exclusives, Sony will really have to step up their game with their next PlayStation presentation—whenever that’s going to be.

The Xbox Series S will launch alongside the Series X and will be available on Nov. 10. Meanwhile, you can find more games in our complete and updated list of Upcoming Xbox Series X Games.

Microsoft has officially unveiled one of their next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series S.

Microsoft Officially Unveils Xbox Series S; Series X Release Date Announced

After the release of Dirt 4 in 2017 and Dirt Rally 2.0 last year, Codemasters was ready to release the next title in their racing franchise Dirt 5 in October. Too bad for anyone excited though, because the game has been delayed by almost a month.

Codemasters has announced that Dirt 5 will now launch on Nov. 6, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

This new date is said to be set so that all versions of Dirt 5 can release within the same timeframe. They also announce that the version that’s available for next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X will release around the time of the holiday season.

CEO of Codemasters Frank Sagnier had this to say about the launch:

“DIRT 5 has received widespread critical acclaim, culminating with it receiving the gamescom 2020 Best Racing Game Award… The revised launch date will allow us to take advantage of the next generation console launches which are expected in time for the holiday season."

A Google Stadia version is also said to be in the works, but it will be available come 2021. There is also an Amplified Edition of the game which will come with exclusive content plus three days early access.

Based on what we’ve seen from the game so far, it looks like Dirt 5 will be a great update to Codemasters’ critically acclaimed franchise. Though a delay is a big bummer for fans, at least it will only be by a month (even less than that).

The game is also set to come to PS5 and Xbox Series X in the 2020 holiday season.

Codemasters' next game, Dirt 5, has been delayed by almost a month.

Dirt 5 Release Pushed Back to November

We’ve known for a while that several titles will be making the jump from the current gen of consoles to the next. And while fans are excited for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, it looks like the devs will be bringing along one of their most popular games to the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

CDPR released in a statement:

Developed to take advantage of powerful video-game hardware, the next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.

While the game will be available as a standalone purchase for the PC, Xbox Series X, and PS5, owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Xbox One and PS4 will be able to get the improvements as a free upgrade.

It’s very fascinating to see the transition from the current generation of games to the next because there seems to be an emphasis on Backwards Compatibility and being able to bring all the games in your old library along to the next console.

While Xbox seems to be confident with their BC, PlayStation is only able to port over games from the PS4. We don’t have any full details yet, but hopefully we get an update before the consoles release.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, and it will be available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X sometime in 2021.

Nintendo is celebrating 35 years of Super Mario Brothers, and with the company being notorious for inventive ways to have fun, they’ve given us a look at this new gimmick with the Switch called Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.

Check out the trailer:

Drive a kart in the real world using familiar Mario Kart controls and see the action from your kart’s on-board camera displayed on your Nintendo Switch or TV screen. Watch as your home is transformed into ocean depths, a sandy desert and more from the world of Mario Kart!

The game basically lets you drive a tiny kart IRL and lets you turn your home into its own race track. Buying the set gives you a cart and four gates. You place the four gates to mark spots in your track, and you drive the cart through the four gates in order to establish the shape.

Once the track is set, you’re ready to go. While it looks like you can play by yourself, there is also the option to play with up to four people. What’s great is, the real kart is affected by what happens in-game, so it goes faster when you get a boost, and goes slower when you get hit with a turtle shell.

It seems like a fun thing to play for a few hours, but I think the set-up is going to eventually eat at the players. Then again, you still get a nice kart that you can display next to your console. You also have to hand it to how creative Nintendo can get with their expansions. You don’t see gimmicks like this with the Xbox.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will be available for the Nintendo Switch come October 16.

While EA may have not have been making good use of its Star Wars license for the past few years, the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has opted for them to try harder, and now they’ve decided to add the Star Wars brand to a game that they already have out, The Sims 4.

Check out the gameplay trailer for the incoming expansion Star Wars: Journey to Batuu:

Just in case you’re not caught up on Disneyland attractions, Batuu is the in-canon location represented by the park expansion Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge; and it looks like they’re taking that park’s experience and putting it into a Sims game.

Just like in Galaxy’s Edge, you can build a lightsaber, customize a droid, and mingle at the local cantina. You also have three factions going around, them being the First Order, the Resistance, and the money-loving Scoundrels; it will be up to you which one you would like to participate in.

Admittedly, reception has been poor for the trailer currently with 17k likes versus 30k dislikes. Then again, the Star Wars fandom has been notorious for its toxicity, and some people just demand that every new thing be for them.

If anything, I think there are some fans of Sims who would actually enjoy this kind of expansion of the world, and it’s admittedly great brand synergy that Disney could use this DLC to promote the actual Batuu park.

Catch The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu Game Pack when it becomes available this Sept. 8 The Sims 4 is now playable for Xbox One, PC, and PS4.

It looks like EA is making good with its promise to better use its Star Wars license.

The Sims 4 Introduces New Expansion, Star Wars: Journey to Batuu

We’ve known for a while that Clint Barton/Hawkeye will be a DLC character for the upcoming game, Marvel's Avengers</
.

Though that seemed like it was enough, it looks like one other Marvel archer is going to be joining the fight and it’s been revealed as Hawkeye’s protégée Kate Bishop.

Check out the new trailer:

Kate Bishop joins our expanding roster in Taking Aim, the first post-launch Operation in the Avengers Initiative.
As a master archer, Kate has the smarts, the talent, and the sarcastic attitude that makes any enemy she faces quiver in fear.

While we don’t really get to see much of her skillset in the trailer, we do know that she has one ability that the other heroes don’t have—teleportation. We don’t know how that works, but hopefully Kate has a different skillset as compared to Hawkeye.

You’ll also notice that Kate has a familiar voice, and that’s because she is played by Ashly Burch, who is best known for providing the voice of another bow-wielding game girl, Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn.

It’s said that Kate will actually be the first playable character introduced post-launch. Hopefully she will be available for free, just like Spider-Man will be for PlayStation owners.

Marvel's Avengers game will be available today, Sept. 4, on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Skullbot Games had brought us fun titles like Wildstar and City of Heroes, and now they’ve unveiled their next action beat-em-up, Gone Viral.

Check out the trailer:

Here’s the official description:

Gone Viral explores a mutant post-apocalypse society that so glorifies violence and social media that the ultimate hybrid of the two has become the cornerstone of their entertainment – the most brutal game show ever devised. Gone Viral puts the player in the shoes of a “contestant” on that gameshow who has been captured and is forced to fight for their life – and for likes.

In Gone Viral, you have the chance to become a “Social Murdia Star” and amass a following in the game as well as IRL; apparently you can hook up the game to Twitch (via the Blood Stream), and it lets you invite viewers and they can participate while you play to either help or make things harder for you.

It’s very interesting that the marketing should use the word “mutants” since this game looks to be inspired by the X-Men arc concerning the Mojoverse where members of the X-Men are transported into an alternate dimension where they’re forced to fight for the death for ratings. You’ll even notice that the character has something resembling Wolverine claws at some point in the trailer.

Gone Viral will be available for Steam Early Access on Sept. 24 for $19.99. Find more games in our list of Upcoming PC Games.

Survive the Arena and Gain Fans in New Trailer for Gone Viral

GamesCom 2020 had just come out with some big reveals, and during IGN’s presentation of Awesome Indies, we got a look at Clover Bite’s upcoming soulslike sidescroller GRIME.

Check it out:

Here’s the official description:

Destroy... Absorb... Grow... GRIME is a fast and unforgiving Action-Adventure RPG in which you crush your foes with living weapons that mutate form and function, and then consume their remains with a black hole to strengthen your vessel as you break apart a world of anatomical horror and intrigue.

An unusual material collapses in on itself, the world shudders and contracts, and suddenly you are squeezed into existence. What awaits you is a world unknown, alien in its own familiarity, and you must survive what terrors you face. Explore your surreal surroundings, absorb the many enemies you encounter, and use their own traits against them as you let yourself become far more than you once were.

Soulslike games are usually reserved for 3D platformers but old-school gamers will know the real challenge that you could get with these sidescrolling action games—hence the metroidvania subgenre (named after Metroid and Castlevania).

The aesthetics of GRIMEseem influenced by Dark Souls: the larger than life bosses and crazy power ups harken back to the more classic Metroid games. Just like those titles, you also get to power up and improve your hero based on your play-style.

While this is admittedly just a short look at GRIME, hopefully we get to see more of Clover Bite’s highly anticipated title before the year ends. We also hope we don’t have to wait too long into next year before we can get our hands on the game.

An official release date has not been announced for GRIME, but it is set to be available sometime in 2021.

New Trailer for Grime Reveals a Dark Souls-Like Sidescroller

Back when Lucasfilm was promoting the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it looked like the movie was going to release alongside the much-awaited reboot for LEGO Star Wars. We haven’t gotten any significant updates since then, but now we have a fill trailer giving us a great look at the game.

Check it out:

Play through all nine Star Wars™ saga films in a brand-new LEGO video game unlike any other. Experience fun-filled adventures, whimsical humor, and the freedom to fully immerse yourself in the LEGO Star Wars universe like never before.

While the game does look fantastic, it also comes with the announcement that it has been delayed to the spring of 2021. We don’t know the reason for the delay, but it’s possible that the devs want to take time to polish the title up for next gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Though LEGO games are kind of dime-a-dozen nowadays, the Star Wars titles remain to be one of the most beloved among fans. These came out back in the early 2000s for the PS2 and Xbox, and they were pretty fun, including a lot of material from the films as well as some neat Easter Eggs. With TROS completing the story of the Skywalkers, it’s the perfect opportunity for LEGO to update the game for a new generation of fans.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga becomes available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Switch</ in the spring of 2021.

Track these monsters and prepare for combat using time of day, weather conditions, and your witcher knowledge to gain an advantage on your quest to becoming an elite monster slayer.

While we don’t get any specifics on gameplay, it actually looks just like Pokemon GO, but rather than capture monsters, you have to slay them. What’s more, they aren’t cute and cuddly, but rather horrific and monstrous.

A lot of countries are still in quarantine thanks to COVID-19 and some fans are unsure about a game that’s going to encourage you to go outside. Hopefully by the time this game launches, we’ll be a lot closer to how things were before the pandemic.

Besides monster hunting, some fans are wondering if Monster Slayer has some elements brought in from the actual Witcher game—particularly the option to challenge other players for a round of Gwent.

We don’t know exactly what’s in store yet, but Spokko needs to add some more gimmicks so as not to make this game more than just ‘Scary Pokemon GO’

No release date has been set for The Witcher: Monster Slayer, but it will be available for iOS and Android.
