Slay the Princess is a twisted visual novel experience. It emulates the feel of titles like Doki Doki Literature Club and Omori, subverting players' expectations of a simple story.

Publisher Feral Interactive revealed that Total War: Empire will launch on Android and iOS this November 21. It will carry a price tag of US $19.99.

Total War: Empire is one of the most ambitious entries in the Total War franchise. The fifth installment in the series, it first came out as Empire: Total War on PC in 2009. It's one of the best PC single-player games of all time with a playscore of 8.8

The game blends large-scale empire management with tactical, real-time battles. Both on land and sea.

Players also got the chance to lead one of eleven historical factions. These included Britain, France, and Prussia as they navigate the complex political landscape of the time. At the same time, they must manage resources and strategically deploy forces to defend or expand their empires.

The game’s setting is inspired by a period of rapid scientific and technological advancement. It also introduces players to innovations that altered warfare. These included the early industry, artillery improvements, and gunpowder weaponry.

One of the highlights of Total War: Empire is its Grand Campaign. It challenges players to expand their influence across three continents: Europe, America, and India. As they forge alliances, manage resources, and build armies, they’ll also engage in real-time battles.

Naval combat also plays a critical role. This means players can command powerful fleets in real-time and use their dominance at sea to support military campaigns. As well as establish, defend trade routes, and secure their foothold in the Americas and other colonies.

In addition to the Grand Campaign, Total War: EMPIRE on mobile includes the “Road to Independence” episodic mini-campaign.

Road to Independence follows the American Revolution in a narrative-driven mode. Players can take control of key historical figures and lead their armies through critical moments of the revolution.

Meanwhile, a separate “Warpath” expansion, is slated for a post-release update as an in-app purchase, Feral added.

Total War: Empire for Mobile Gets Release Date

Fans of co-op zombie actions such as Left 4 Dead 2 and Call of Duty Black Ops' Zombies have a new title to anticipate. Publisher Maximum Entertainment and developer 314 Arts announced their latest game, Projekt Z: Beyond Order. The cooperative zombie shooter releases in Spring 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

A fresh trailer was revealed during this year’s Indie Horror Showcase. Check out the trailer here:

The trailer offered a glimpse into the chaos and potential fun to be had in its zombie-infested world. It also showcased extensive weapon customization that players can expect in a game like this.

In Projekt Z, players can choose from four unique character classes with specialized abilities. Each class offers a distinct role that is useful during the game’s intense 4-player PvE modes. It is highly encouraged for players to team up and work together to take on dangerous missions with ease.

Character progression is key, as players can upgrade their chosen survivor using individual skill trees. This will eventually transform each character into a skilled zombie killer.

Not only that, to quell the zombie threat, weapon customization is the name of the game. Players can scavenge for resources and blueprints, then upgrade and personalize their gear using the game’s crafting system. Each weapon modification lets players optimize their loadouts for ultimate firepower against the undead. It’s like Destiny 2, but with zombies
.

The customizable hideout serves as a safe haven where survivors can craft, trade, and build new structures. However, survival is risky, as items collected on the island will be lost if players don’t safely return to their hideout.

Players who prefer the quiet can also dive into its Free Roam Mode and explore the island. They can scavenge loot, blueprints and take on side-missions that offer unique rewards.

Zombie fans can wishlist Projekt Z: Beyond Order on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox before its Spring 2025 release.

Outerdawn's new turn-based RPG, Grimguard Tactics, has launched on mobile devices.

Starting on October 23, Android and iOS players can finally immerse themselves in the shadowy realms of Terenos.

Grimguard Tactics is a free-to-play mobile game.

It features a mix of turn-based combat, RPG, and city-building elements. In the game, players need to assemble a team of heroes to fight the Primorva, a force that has spread corruption and darkness across Terenos.
Developers promised to offer a 'deep, strategic experience' with their newest turn-based RPG title.

Aside from its campaign, players can also expect other means to enjoy the game.

Grimguard Tactics features several modes, including a PvP where gamers compete globally to climb the ranks. It also has PvE where they can fight boss battles.

Players can also collect and recruit heroes from diverse factions. Each has its own distinct skills, subclasses, and strengths. With roles like Assault, Tank, and Support, players can assemble teams according to their playstyle.

Outside of combat, they need to work on rebuilding the stronghold of Holdfast. Throughout the game, they must collect resources and fortify defenses to hold back Primorva’s advancing legions.

Grimguard Tactics was one of the most anticipated mobile RPGs. According to Outerdawn, they recorded over 1 million pre-registrations.

Developers from the Auckland-based studio decided to delay the game's release. It was initially scheduled to launch last September 12. But feedback during a previous beta test prompted the dev team to postpone it.
The extra time, in turn, allowed them to add more content as well as do more fine-tuning.

Meanwhile, exclusive content and items await players who have pre-registered. These included the legendary Dawnseeker Arbiter hero. They also have access to an exclusive dungeon, gacha events, portrait frames, and avatar cosmetics.

Turn-Based RPG Grimguard Tactics Launches on Mobile

While horror games are available all year, it’s only in the Halloween season that everyone gets into the spooky spirit and finds different ways to get into the mood for ghosts, monsters, and candy from strangers.

Even the gaming industry sees Halloween as a time for some limited edition seasonal goods and to highlight some scary games. Though not everyone has the luxury or time to get into AAA horror games that are available for PC and console, there are some frights to be had with the high-tech rectangle in your pocket.

Here’s a list of some spooky mobile games that you can check out for the year.

Little Nightmares

The horror genre is usually caked in gory things like blood and guts, but Little Nightmares from Tarsier Studios manages to embrace the creepy horror aspect without feeling the need to be overtly bloody or violent. It's long been a beloved horror adventure, becoming of the PS4's best adventure games.

In this game, players take control of Six, a child with nothing but a lighter who has to find a way to sneak out of the Maw, a huge, underwater vessel filled with all kinds of mysterious horrors. Little Nightmares is essentially a puzzle-platformer game that has Six traversing from level to level finding ways to open doors—all the while slowly unraveling the truth of the Maw and its inhabitants.

Probably the closest other media to compare to Little Nightmares is the stop-motion classic The Nightmare Before Christmas (TNBC), which has a specific aesthetic that it seems to be emulating. It probably goes without saying that Little Nightmares is a lot creepier and darker than TNBC, and should leave players with some uneasy feelings when things start to get dark.

Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo

Released by Square Enix in 2023, Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo brings players into a classic Japanese horror story, filled with all kinds of puzzles to solve as well as some dramatic intrigue. The game is set in the 80s and focuses on several different characters who have found themselves cursed and must spend the majority of the game saving themselves before it’s too late.

Though the visual novel genre is best known for its use in dating sims, Paranormasight focuses mostly on the storytelling and promises a slow burn of a horror story that will manage to ramp up the horror through seven interconnected tales.

The art is pretty fantastic, and a manga sequel is set to release sometime in 2025. This should also be perfect for any Dandadan fans who want to get into some Japanese folk monsters.

Fran Bow

Released back in 2015, Fran Bow from Killmonday Games, like Little Nightmares, borrows from the familiar Tim Burton aesthetic with the large bug eyes and skinny frames.

This point-and-click horror adventure puts players in the shoes of Fran, a young girl who witnessed the brutal murder of her parents. Struggling with a mental disorder, Fran must navigate strange and terrifying visions as she finds a way to get out of Oswald Asylum.

It’s essentially a kid’s horror book come to life.

Oxenfree

Netflix may be the last place for players to look for games, but the streaming giant has managed to license interesting titles that aren’t just generic puzzle/rhythm games. Oxenfree from Night School Studio is a graphic adventure where players navigate a paranormal mystery.

In the game, players take control of Alex, a teen visiting a mysterious island with her group of friends. As usual with these horror games, Alex somehow unleashes a paranormal force on the island, and it will be up to her and her friends to find out exactly what went wrong.

This was actually the debut game for Night School Studio and was said to be heavily influenced by teen films and coming-of-age stories. Oxenfree’s gameplay encourages players to explore and uncover the mysteries on the island.

The game was originally released back in 2016, and has just gotten its sequel Oxenfree II: Lost Signals released last year. As far as awards go, the game did win “Best Narrative” at The Game Awards in the year it was released as well as “Outstanding Achievement in Story “ at the 20th Annual DICE Awards.

Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals

Also available to play on Netflix, Oxenfree 2 is a direct sequel to the first game. But, you can jump into this title completely fresh without having to play the first Oxenfree.

Focusing on a completely new story, Oxenfree 2 takes the formula of the original game and delivers a new experience. It comes complete with atmospheric horror that doesn’t rely too much on jumpscares, but rather on its new narrative and characters.

The game is relatively new and released for mobile as well as consoles just last year. Hard to believe there are seven years between the release of this game and its predecessor.

Limbo

Much like Little Nightmares, Limbo is a puzzle-platformer game that embraces its horror atmosphere and delivers a frightening experience for players despite its 2D platformer format. Unlike Nightmares though, Limbo is a completely colorless game set in a black-and-white world—but that just really amps up the unsettling vibe.

In the game, players take control of a boy who does everything a 2D platformer character can do, from jumping to moving left and right and climbing up and down ladders. The game also has some creepy giant bugs for players to tackle and run away from. Despite the lack of detail for the creatures, the fact that they’re cast in shadow almost adds to the horrific elements of Limbo.

The studio behind the game, Playdead, released a sequel in 2016 called Inside and it revisited several of the themes that had been brought up in Limbo.

Hello Neighbor

Don’t let the colorful Pixar vibe catch you off guard. Hello Neighbor from Dynamic Pixels is a survival horror stealth game that will have players sneaking around their neighbor’s home to dig up any of his dirty secrets.

The biggest hook of this game is the AI. It is said to be smart enough to recognize the player’s patterns and adjust the Neighbor’s behavior to catch the player. Pictures aren’t enough to sell the horror aspect of this game, but watching the trailer is enough to give you an idea of what to expect.

Dead by Daylight Mobile

Nothing screams 80s horror like the slasher genre. The concept has been done to death so much that Behaviour Interactive thought it would be a great premise for a video game.

Dead By Daylight (DBD) is a new genre of multiplayer games dubbed as asymmetrical horror. It puts a group of players in a match where one of them is an overpowered monster, and the rest have to find a way to escape the map before all of them die.

The game has a wide array of original monsters inspired by movie icons. DBD has managed to get licensing deals to bring in slasher icons like Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Freddy (Nightmare on Elm Street), and Ghost Face (the Scream franchise). The game has even brought in the Demogorgon from Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, as well as Wesker from another infamous game franchise, Resident Evil.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

Though the movie may have just been released last year, Five Nights at Freddy’s (or FNAF) is a modern horror classic that came out on PC a decade ago.

Refined for mobile, FNAF puts players in the seat of an unwitting security guard tasked with watching over a run-down pizza parlor made for kids. What the guard doesn’t know though, is that the animatronic animals come to life at night and commit all kinds of ghastly crimes when nobody’s looking.

Filled with all kinds of lore over the years since it was released, this should be a great jumping-off point for anyone who wants to know what the FNAF craze is all about. It should be the right time to get into it since a sequel to the film is underway.

The Alien franchise just made a huge comeback this year with the successful release of Alien: Romulus. It led a lot of fans to go back and rediscover previously released Alien media, one of them the survival-horror game Alien: Isolation.

The game is set 15 years after the events of the original Alien (which makes it 5 years before the events of Romulus) and follows the story of Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Ellen Ripley. Just like her mother, Amanda will find herself stuck on a ship with a murderous xenomorph, and she’ll have to find a way to escape with her life.

Besides evoking the look and feel of the original 1979 movie, Isolation was lauded for its adaptive AI. The alien in the game can study the player’s patterns. For one, if it notices that the player has a penchant for hiding in closets, it will start looking there whenever it enters a room—forcing the player to come up with new ways to outsmart it.

A sequel has just been recently announced for the game, and the original still manages to be considered one of the best entries in the survival-horror genre of all time.

Considered as one of the hardest and most frustrating games of all time, Darkest Dungeon II is a turn-based rogue-lite game where players embark on a treacherous journey through a decaying world.

Players lead a party of heroes to confront both physical and psychological terrors. The game builds upon the success of its predecessor with its enhanced 3D visuals, innovative turn-based combat system, and a diverse range of playable heroes.

The first game, Darkest Dungeon, gained infamy for being too challenging back in 2016. Fans however, overcame the game's difficulty and enjoyed the overall experience. It's one of the best PC single-players with a playscore of 8.7 from 38 critics and over 70 thousand players.

This sequel, Darkest Dungeon II found new footing from player feedback in the first entry. However, it did not capture enough of the original’s terrifying novelty. It still did a lot of things right, resulting in a playscore of 7.7 for PC from over 10 thousand players and 42 critics.

Despite all that, the game is not over yet. Fans of the series can look forward to more Darkest Dungeon II content in the future. Its upcoming update will introduce a new game mode titled ‘Kingdoms’. This challenges players to defend their realm from invading factions. The first of these modules, Hunger of the Beast Clan, will see players battling vicious, decaying beastmen.

In addition to the free content, a paid DLC expansion, ‘Inhuman Bondage’, will also be released soon. This update will introduce a new mini-region known as The Catacombs, a dangerous locale filled with new enemies. Additionally, the expansion will also feature the return of The Abomination, a fan-favorite character from the original Darkest Dungeon. It will offer a unique battle mechanic tied to stress and transformation.

Both the free update and paid DLC will be available to players who purchase the physical edition of Darkest Dungeon II when they launch.

Dead Island 2 Introduces New Game Plus & Three-Player Co-Op

Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) made a major announcement at CitizenCon 2954 for the release of Squadron 42. Scheduled for a 2026 window, the announcement was accompanied by a live playthrough of the studio’s highly anticipated single-player space adventure.

The hour-long live demonstration offered fans an extensive preview of Squadron 42’s opening moments. It showcases its visuals, storytelling, star-studded cast and large-scale space combat. The demo was the first full public display of Squadron 42’s gameplay to date, dispelling the vaporware allegations.

Check out the gameplay demo below:

Taking place in the same universe as Star Citizen, this separate story puts players into the heat of combat, featuring first-person battles and space dogfights.

Apart from its gameplay, the game boasts a stellar cast of characters. Big names such as Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman and Henry Cavill put on their mo-caps and acted to ensure Squadron 42’s cinematic intent. Additional cast members also include Eleanor Tomlinson, John Rhys-Davies, Sophie Wu and Jonathan Bailey.

Squadron 42 is already “feature complete” according to the developers, but it is currently in its polishing phase. Despite the delay, players were ecstatic to finally see progress in this much-awaited game. On the other hand, other players are not too happy with it, especially with CIG’s track record for lengthy development cycles. This is evident with Star Citizen, which is still in development today.

YouTube comments were also a mix between excited and concerned. One complaint was that the cutscenes were too long, potentially ruining the pace. However, most of the fans were already excited to see the full extent of CIG’s latest science fiction project.

The studio remains dedicated to delivering AAA titles with groundbreaking technology and immersive gameplay. But if it takes a long while to release, it will definitely rile up a few of its loyal supporters.
