Let’s hope the sequel (and the rest of the series) finds a home on Nintendo hardware. It’s 2024, and my game of the year is a graphic adventure first released in 1996. Go figure.

It looks fabulous, and everything that gave the original its appeal is intact. It hardly needs proving these days, but Shadow of the Templars: Reforged shows once again that nostalgia never gets old.

The compressed sound is unfortunate and the additions from the Director's Cut are sadly excluded. As it stands, there is no definitive version of Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars and Reforged missed the opportunity to have it all.

Και το σημαντικότερο; Για αυτούς που ήταν παιδιά όταν το πρωτοείδαν το 1996 και το ερωτεύτηκαν, τώρα το παιχνίδι είναι στην κατάλληλη μορφή για να προκαλέσει τα ίδια συναισθήματα στα δικά τους παιδιά. Ένα καταπληκτικό παιχνίδι, για όλη την οικογένεια.

First and foremost because it’s part of the remaster trends that keep plaguing this generation. Secondly, because it made me realize that one of my childhood’s iconic games was a much more special experience in my memories. There’s nothing really wrong with this remaster, but unlike Full Throttle or Grim Fandango, it shattered some illusions I was holding onto regarding the golden age of point and click adventure games.

Reforged strikes a great balance between respecting the original and making it more enjoyable for today’s players. It’s a must-play for both fans of the genre and newcomers alike.

Por un lado, estamos ante la puesta al día visual y sonora de una de las mejores y más queridas aventuras gráficas de la historia. Con muy buen criterio, se ha tomado como base de esta remasterización el juego original de 1996, descartando los cambios y añadidos de la Director´s Cut de 2009. A mayores de los retoques visuales y sonoros, el único añadido es un sistema de pistas dentro del juego opcional. El problema viene por parte del empleo de IA para realizar parte de los retoques gráficos, lo cual en última instancia nos deja un acabado que probablemente convencerá más a las nuevas generaciones que a los seguidores más acérrimos de la saga. Si bien es cierto que en general el juego se ve mejor, ciertos detalles deslucen un tanto el conjunto, quedando la valoración final muy dependiente de los gustos de cada uno.

The game has managed to retain everything that made the original special while giving it the updates it needed to appeal to a modern audience. The story, characters and atmosphere are still as engaging as ever, and the technical improvements make the experience even better. For old fans, it's a nostalgic journey back to a time when adventure games were at their peak, and for new players, it's a perfect opportunity to experience a true classic in an updated version. I can only recommend it.
