Against the Storm and Timberborn recently made waves in the city-building genre. Both games were created by independent gaming studios. The two titles made their debut via PC in 2021. As of March 2023, both games are still in Early Access.

Timberborn takes players into a fantasy world where beavers reign. In it, beavers had the task of rebuilding the earth after humanity's extinction.

Against the Storm, on the other hand, employs dark fantasy and roguelike elements. Like Timberborn, Against the Storm lets players take control of beavers in reclaiming the wilderness and surviving never-ending storms.

Against the Storm and Timberborn received positive praise from gamers. Against the Storm received an aggregate gamerscore of 9.4 on more than 9000 reviews. Timberborn garnered a high gamerscore, at 9.3, from over 16,400 reviews on Steam, GOG, and Game Faqs. / ###

Voodolls, the action-strategy game where players take control of voodoo dolls, will land on PC devices next month. And days before its expected release, developers bared more surprises for players.

Indie game developer SideRift Studio kicked off Voodolls' Open Beta last March 23. The Open Beta event allowed gamers to explore more and play more about Voodolls' world.

The time-limited event enabled players to play all four voodoo dolls. They can also access the entire tutorial, two planetoid stages, and three difficulty modes, including an endless one. SideRift Studio also confirmed that participants of their Open Beta would receive an exclusive skin - the Corrupted Skin. The Open Beta will end on March 28, developers added.

Voodolls will debut on PC devices via Steam and Epic Games on April 13. The tower-defense game is SideRift's first major project. The French indie studio first announced its development in November 2022.

Voodolls features a voodoo-inspired story arc in which trapped souls in voodoo dolls seek freedom from hell. In it, players must guide either of the four voodoo dolls in their quest for freedom. While finding their way out, they must also protect the Puppet Master, the key to their escape.

Play takes the form of intense co-op tower defense battles across 12 planetoid stages featuring three difficulty modes and an endless mode, described SideRift Studio.

The upcoming game also features a world drawn in 3D art and gameplay that supports three camera angles. This means players can explore all 12 planets and combat enemies in first-person, third-person mode, or from a bird's eye view.

Voodolls can be played solo or online, with up to four players participating as a co-op, SideRift Studio said. / ###

Get Ready to Set Sail with Guns of Glory's Latest DLC: Lost Islands

A new soulslike RPG title recently came out. But its debut raised a lot of eyebrows in the gaming community. Indie developers from Archangel Studios released their open-world RPG, Bleak Faith: Forsaken. It is the Cyprus-based studio's first game project. The three-member team launched the game for PC via Steam on March 10.

But two days after its release, the game faced controversy. Gamers and modders accused Archangel Studios of copying elements from Elden Ring. In particular, the new game's animations.

The tweet from Dark Souls modder Meowmaritus garnered the most interactions.
Meowmaritus alleged that malicious individuals used their software for profit. In particular, they copied and exported animations from a mega-hit RPG title from FromSoftware.

The animations from Bleak Faith: Forsaken were 100 percent ripped from Elden Ring, said Meowmaritus. He also said he does not condone people using the DS Anim Studio software to extract a game's assets for commercial purposes.

On March 13, Archangel Studio responded to the accusations hurled at them. Despite admitting to having outsourced assets, they denied committing infringements.

Archangel Studio said they purchased them from Epic Marketplace "in good faith." They explained that it helped them fast-track Bleak Faith's development time. Developers also claimed that outsourced assets only comprised 10 percent of the game. Developers said they used them for animations, visual effects, and audio.

In the meantime, Archangel has taken action to address the concern. They already asked Epic to investigate the matter, they said.

Archangel's team added that the allegations against them were hurtful and distressing. "We hope that through our transparency and our ongoing actions will (sic) improve the game," they added.

Indie Soulslike Bleak Faith's Debut Marred with Copycat Allegations

After four years, Barotrauma, the popular submarine sim game, has finally launched its full version. Developers from Undertow Games confirmed that Barotrauma had concluded its Early Access mode on March 13 (GMT). In turn, they proceeded with rolling out its full version.

Barotrauma is ready to take on its biggest mission yet: full launch. The game is available today on Steam, they wrote in a press release.

Among the highlights included in the full version is a brand-new endgame. Undertow Games, in a blog on its official website, said they would introduce the 'real ending of the campaign' in Barotrauma 1.0. The Finland-based studio decided to do a new endgame after players expressed disappointment over the lack of content during Early Access.

Fun fact, it's loosely based on a dream our lead designer had several years ago while having a fever, said Undertow Games. The new endgame in Barotrauma will, in turn, add between two to three hours to the campaign's length, developers explained. We've been working on the endgame for a full year by now, and we can't wait to hear what you think about it, they added.

Undertow Games also promised to deliver new features and changes to Barotrauma 1.0. These included new monsters, missions, improved graphics, and environments. They will implement a 'script event system' too.

During its four-year Early Access mode, developers received over 90,000 pieces of feedback from players on Steam and Discord.

All of this was only possible thanks to the feedback and support, Undertow Games said.

Barotrauma is set in the far future when humankind migrated to Europa's waters for survival. The game, featuring survival horror elements, allowed players to enter its Early Access mode in 2019.

Fall in Love Again with HoYoVerse's Cozy Couple's Getaway II in Tears of Themis

This month, a crossover between two of the biggest names in Japan's video game industry will hit mobile phones. Japanese game publisher A Plus Japan announced that they would launch the first event for Street Fighter: Duel this March. This development came just weeks after Street Fighter: Duel's worldwide debut.

In a press release, A Plus Japan revealed that the upcoming event would be a Street Fighter and Monster Hunter crossover. The Gore Magala limited-time event will be available from March 16th to March 29th, portions of the press release read.

Players can expect new characters and challenges during the two-and-a-half-week event. These included unlocking a new fighter named Gore Magala Ken.

According to A Plus Japan, Gore Magala Ken can inflict single-target and AOE damage. He is also a member of the Infernal King Faction and provides a buff to other Infernal King fighters in the team.

Gore Magala Ken will be a fine addition to the team with solid combos, as his abilities automatically stack with other fighters when they are comboing, they added.

Players can unlock Gore Magala Ken by receiving the Wyvern Tear reward during the event's Shadaloo Invasion challenge.

Street Fighter: Duel's upcoming event also has another challenge wherein players can fight the legendary wyvern itself. Called the Gore Magala Hunt, they must take control of their fighters in challenging Gore Magala's three body parts for awards - wings, claws, and head. They can also fight the Gore Magala in various difficulty levels, from normal to rage states.

Street Fighter and Monster Hunter are some of CAPCOM's biggest gaming franchises. Last February, Duel, Street Fighter's first mobile and RPG title, launched worldwide. Upon its release, it received positive reviews from gamers and fans.

On whatoplay, it has an aggregated gamer score of 9.4 based on over 20K reviews. / ###
