This new Xbox Series X game is a ‘two-in-one’ pack which includes the visual novel ‘What Lydia Knows’ and the roguelike ‘Outbreak RPG’. The long-running Outbreak series welcomes these two entries to Microsoft’s console.

In What Lydia Knows, players follow Detective Lydia Daniels as she searches for her missing partner. Players lead Lydia to uncover the sinister truth in a familiar visual novel format.

What Lydia Knows offers 24 possible endings. These conclusions depend on player decisions across their time in Cypress Ridge. Gameplay involves interacting with various characters and completing mini-games. Players can also unlock new concept art and music tracks from the Outbreak series by playing.

A ‘Scene Studio Mode’ allows players to create and share their own dialogues and scenarios. This encourages players to share their creations to its community.

Alongside ‘What Lydia Knows’ is the other half of this package. ‘Outbreak RPG’ is a turn-based adventure set in a zombie apocalypse. The roguelike twist adds procedurally generated challenges in every run.

Fans of the popular souls-like title Morbid: The Seven Acolytes, rejoice!

The sequel to the 2020 game just released on May 16th, creators from Maximum Entertainment and Still Running announced.

Titled Morbid: The Lords of Ire, it can be played on PC and consoles. These include PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Morbid: The Lords of Ire, like its predecessor, throws players in a hellscape, roaming with grotesque creatures. At the same time, it introduces new features, including upgraded visuals and hack-and-slash elements.

For The Lords of Ire, developers from Still Running decided to depart from the 2D, isometric art style found in The Seven Acolytes. Instead, the new game will have 3D graphics and perspectives.

"Morbid: The Lords of Ire is a continuation and reinvention of the critically acclaimed isometric souls-like ARPG Morbid: The Seven Acolytes from an all-new 3D perspective," said Maximum.

In the game, players reprise the role of the heroic Striver. For The Lords of Ire, developers added new skills and abilities for Striver. This included doing brutal finishers and wielding devastating guard breaks. She also has the ability to unleash the powerful Spectre Blaster to obliterate stronger foes.

On top of these, developers promised to roll out new worlds for players to explore in The Lords of Ire. The game will have five distinct and horrifying environments, they said. And each of them is teeming with monstrous denizens. From desolate wintry mountains to decaying urban landscapes.

On the other hand, the creators also retained several features from The Seven Acolytes for the sequel. Players can expect the return of the game's signature sanity system in The Lords of Ire.

"Maintain your sanity to gain incredible resilience, unleash devastating critical blows, and earn more experience," developers said. "However, succumb to the allure of madness and unlock a torrent of raw power that lets you deal and take more damage in a frenzy of violence," they added.

Morbid: The Lords of Ire currently carries a price tag of $16.99. For a limited time, publishers offer a limited price discount of up to 20 percent.

Retro Cyberpunk Mystery 'Read Only Memories: Neurodiver' Out Now!

Blew your budget on a PS5? To get your collection started, here are our picks for the best PS5 games that won’t break the bank.

Among Us

$4.99

We start this list with Among Us. Who hasn’t heard of this game of manipulation and subterfuge, or killing your friends and hoping you get away with it. While it’s a fun addition to the PS5, it does come with some drawbacks. For one, it doesn’t have voice chat so you’ll need to find your own workaround. And, despite the price tag, it’s only really cheap if you already have a PlayStation Plus subscription.

Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1

$4.99

Next up is an analog of the Freddy animatronics series. Poppy’s Playtime gives abandoned toys the chance to get back at their makers. Unfortunately in this case that means you. Stay alive by solving puzzles around the abandoned factory and whatever you do, don’t get caught!

We Were Here Expeditions: The FriendShip

$3.99

Enough of the spooks, here’s a game where you won’t have to feel alone. Like Overcooked and It Takes Two, We Were Here Expeditions is co-op game. But unlike other couch co-op games, you have to play together online. Leaving you to communicate solely through a pair of walkie-talkies and rock, paper, scissor games. Together you can explore this nautical theme park with its fair share of puzzles and peril.

Brotato

$4.99

Speaking of peril, Brotato has plenty. While Vampire Survivors is taking its time coming to PlayStation, this chaotic arena shooter is kicking it on the consoles. Guide this small potato, from being a small fry gunner, to a hotshot, guns-blazing killing machine. With so many unique builds to try, there’s every reason to keep coming back for more.

Garden Patrol

$2.99

Not exactly the best use of your PS5’s new-gen visuals, let’s be honest. It’s basically the garden equivalent of whack-a-mole. The more critters you take down and the better your plants grow, the higher your points. There are a few trophies on the line, too, if you’re up to it.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (PS1 Emulation)

$2.49

Coming at just slightly cheaper than the last game is this re-release of a PS1 classic. While Oddworld Abe’s comeback Remake in 2014 is racking up the ratings, you can still get the original experience for a bargain price. The gameplay probably won’t be as smooth as you remember it, but it is just as funny.

Ratyrinth

$4.99

A great example of a modern retro game done well. Ratyrinth takes the two-tone 8-bit style and pairs it with precise controls and superb platforming challenges. In your quest to find your family, every level is a rat race. Face off with new enemies and take on the surprising new challenges ahead.

Food Truck Tycoon

$4.99

From the same publisher that brought us Sushi Time!. Food Truck Tycoon brings new culinary adventures. Starting from humble hotdogs and sodas, things will get a whole lot messier once you get to the french fries, salads, corndogs…and everything in between. Try managing all that on your DualSense controller.

Titan Chaser

$4.99

And if you feel like going for a drive, there’s Titan Chasers. It’s a driving simulator where you go marauding around a foggy open world in search of Titans. The only thing is, your only line of defense is to drive away the majestic beasts with light. It has a wonderful atmosphere of dread that SCP fans would love.

Kitten Island

$4.99

Back to the platformers, this one goes out to all the cat lovers. The feline equivalent to Mario’s adventures, Kitten Island takes you through a world of different environments. To collect coins and squish enemies with your mighty paws. One cute meow at a time.

Dungeon Party

$3.99

Our second racing game in this list doesn’t need any fancy F1 tracks. Instead, it dares you to brave the craggy paths of a dungeon in monster trucks and more. The fun thing is, you can finally get that competitive online experience.

Chess Royal

$2.99

Fantastic news for fans of the souls-like genre as well as console owners.

Deathbound, the upcoming soulslike title from Trialforge Studio, will also make its way to PlayStation and Xbox. The Brazil-based game-developing company announced that they will expand Deathbound to consoles. In particular, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

"We’re thrilled to announce that Deathbound will be launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S day-in-date with PC," developers wrote on Steam.

TrialForge has also partnered with Polish publisher Tate Multimedia for the game's launch. A release date has yet to be revealed. But creators said the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X game will be rolled out the title 'later this year.'

Deathbound promises to bring a new take in the souls-like genre. Instead of a single hero, players will have a team of four characters at their disposal.

"Our game was designed to be an innovation within the souls-like genre," developers said. "With this feature, you can change warriors from your party at any moment – even during combat and dodging," they added.

The game's lore takes place in the world of Ziêminal, where faith and science clash in a never-ending struggle. While in the middle of a crusade, players find themselves in the city of Akratya. There, they will uncover the story behind the seven Fallen Warriors, whom the players can take control.

According to developers, the key to victory during battles lies in the players' ability to assemble their party of Fallen Warriors. Deathbound's core gameplay revolves around strategic switching between these bound souls mid-combat. And each Fallen Warrior not only has unique combat styles, skills, but also motivations.

Relationships among the Fallen Warriors can also influence gameplay, developers added.

"Each party member’s affiliation in life will affect their synergy in death," they said.

Meanwhile, TrialForge has already launched a demo version for Deathbound. Players eager to experience the game can access its demo on Steam.

In Whacking Hell, the gates of hell have opened. Players ‘whack’ the monsters before they are eliminated. Bolster the chance of survival by collecting souls and upgrading weapons and spells. Similar to games like Vampire Survivors, players eventually transform into a one-man army.

Whacking Hell plays similarly to the multiawarded Vampire Survivors--one of the best Xbox Series X games in 2022. Sanuk Games' bullet-hell shooter has a top down 2D camera and only by powering up their character can players rain bullets on their enemies.

There are 5 main characters to unlock. Each possesses their own unique loadouts to survive Hell’s army. In addition to that, a selection of 5 weapons adds a dynamic flow to its multi-chapter campaign.

Its 3 chapter structure contains dozens of waves of enemies. With a soundtrack from award-winning Henri-Pierre Pellegrin, it ends with a blaring crescendo of powerful bosses to defeat.

Like its roguelite bullet-hell inspirations, Whacking Hell provides permanent upgrades. These power-ups increase the player's chance of survival in-between sessions.

The game’s one-year development cycle polished the game according to player feedback. According to Sanuk Games, “It [also] involved pitching multiple publishers, but the present state of the industry is such that the game ends up being released by Sanuk Games itself, for better or worse – hopefully better!”

While the game is coming to consoles this year, Whacking Hell only has a confirmed release date on PC. It's set to release soon on PC via Steam on June 14, 2024.
