  • It has to be done, but PGR4 isn’t the best racing option this year with Forza Motorsport 2 already being released previously. If players are tired of Forza 2 and want to move onto another racer, PGR4 is a great choice. For returning players, PGR is basically more of the same – whether that is good or bad is dependent on if you like the series.

  • In closing, let me say that I know there are quite a few players out there like me—loved PGR2, felt disillusioned a bit by PGR3, and hadn’t planned on giving PGR4 a look due to that fact. That would be a huge mistake. The series has “returned to its roots” in a way, beginning with the handling model. At the same time, it’s managed to incorporate very new features, throwing in motorcycles that feel completely fresh and weather that can change every race you run.

Nothing compares to nailing the accelerator of a Ferrari in a PGR game and hearing that engine roar, or throwing these believable but easily manageable cars around bends sideways and getting that sweet ticking reward for your skill.

  • The amount of content in PGR4 is deserving of thousands and thousands of words, but hopefully you get the picture: PGR4 is a brilliant racing game. It's got some issues still, with the lengthy load times and a fair amount of re-used content from PGR3 likely to turn away a few gamers, but it remains the Xbox 360's premier racing title. Whether you want to play alone or with friends over Xbox LIVE, PGR4 won't disappoint.

PGR 4 is a fun arcade racer, but lacks the polish of previous iterations. The menu system leaves something to be desired, the career mode is not very good, and the addition of motorcycles falls a bit flat. However, the fundamentals of PGR remain intact. It's still wickedly fun to drift.

  • One of the really great things about Project Gotham Racing is all the different ways you can play. There are the standard challenges: the race, time trial, the drift challenge, but there are many other types of stages. You'll be doing everything from pass challenges where you have to overtake a certain number of cars to cone challenges where you have to knock down a certain number of cones on the track.

  • Project Gotham Racing 4 is a solid game on all fronts, but it also begs the question, just how many games of this type do we need? At this point they all include the same feature sets, vehicles, and tracks, with minute details separating one from the other. At the same time, it does satisfy a niche of players who aren’t ready to become mechanics but want a moderate amount of realism in their games.

  • With such an intense level of focus trained on the weather effects in PGR 4, it makes you wonder what the team at Bizarre Creations could do if they threw their hat into the simulation ring and took on the Forzas and Gran Turismos of the world at their own game. Still, that doesn't take away from what Project Gotham Racing 4 is: a worthy successor to the previous games in the series and a game that will create entirely new calluses on the hands of racing fans.

  • Weighed against the whole, however, it and the game's other minor flaws are forgivable. Freed from the pressures of developing to match a hardware launch, and perhaps steered by the Forza team's strength in simulation, PGR4 wrings the best yet out of an already scintillating arcade racing game. As a swansong for Activision-bound Bizarre Creations, it's more than we could have wished for, and a daunting prospect for whichever developer Microsoft asks to follow it.
