- FAST Racing NEO‘s futuristic soundscape entrances and the graphical fidelity is sublime, but under the hood it’s clear that this isn’t the perfectly tuned engine that many hoped it would be. But, there’s an unbridled thrill in the arcade roots that it looks to emulate, and that accomplishment is more than enough to celebrate.

The temptation to chuck a controller across the room after instantly jumping from first to last will likely strike a handful of times, and it's a bit thin on customization options, but when all of its high notes line up, Fast Racing Neo is an exhilarating, devilishly grueling game that absolutely pulses with energy.

Fancy graphical effects can sometimes make a good game appear great, but no amount of motion blur and dynamic lighting can transform Shin'en's mediocre game design into truly awesome software.

It’s a sparse experience without much to engage you outside of straightforward racing, but works as a quality reminder of the high-speed sci-fi racing genre that we thought had been forgotten.

It's not quite F-Zero; it may look similar, but only in the way that cousins do, even though one's favored by the family, so the other one punches you when you're not looking for no reason. But even though it's not exactly like an F-Zero, it certainly deserves a place at the family dinner table.

It’s often unforgiving, and doesn’t take any steps to welcome players new to fast-paced racing, but those brave or skilled enough to summit the steep learning curve will find an exhilarating experience that is unrivaled on Wii U.

Fast Racing Neo coming to the table with just those elements already makes it a winner. But the phase shifting on top of that adds a layer of complexity that I found rewarding and keeping me coming back for more — especially online where a mastery of the tracks gives you a distinct advantage.

Fans of those types of racing games will be in awe of what Shin’en has accomplished here. I know it is cliché to say, but please give this team the rights to make a new F-Zero game. Fast Racing NEO is the closest and best thing to happen to the genre in years. This is one game not to sleep on.
Ken McKown · Dec 08, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - The Wii U has been an excellent platform for download-only 'Indie' titles, but few have been able to stand toe-to-toe with Nintendo's first-party offerings. FAST Racing NEO is one of those few. Its gorgeous graphics, incredible sense of speed and steep challenge make for a unique racing game on the system. If you love racing games - and maybe even if you don't but are willing to try - be sure to pick this up. We don't think you'll be disappointed.
