347This game took seven years to make, even though it is a relatively short game. Its visuals are so much more realistic than the original title, which was gorgeous for its time. Now, thanks to Unreal Engine 5 and technologies like Nanite, it is amazing.
Anniversary Edition cements Braid as a seminal gaming moment. And while the new commentary offers a lot of insight, this package is much more than a museum piece. Braid is still one of the best puzzle platformers you can ever play.
I loved Final Fantasy VII Remake, but Rebirth makes it look like a demo.
Tekken 8 makes me angry at myself. I know that I’ve missed out on an amazing franchise. But at least I feel like I’m getting into the series at a strong point. Tekken 8 is a robust package that features some of the most satisfying digital fisticuffs I’ve ever seen.
The Prince of Persia series has lived a few lives. It started as a 2D cinematic platformer before evolving into movement-based 3D action games. Now, Ubisoft Montpellier has found a new direction for the franchise that could serve as the blueprint for the series going forward. If you’re like me and love these kinds of games, then The Lost Crown is likely your first must-play of 2024. Heck, if you really love Metroidvanias as much as I do, then this will likely be your first candidate for 2024’s game of the year.
Overall, it balanced out and the rest of the campaign was well done. As I mentioned, most players really care more about multiplayer than the single-player campaign. For me, I’ve always liked how the single-player story motivates you to play the multiplayer. And so it really does matter to me.
It doesn’t improve on areas of the original game that were screaming for an upgrade. It also struggles to deliver a story where not only both Spider-Men but their supporting cast feel equally served, though this is saved somewhat by the excellent performances.
Starfield is not a perfect game, and I can see some players becoming frustrated with some of its bigger imperfections. It’s a game that offers a massive world that’s not always particularly full, which could turn off some players. However, past its initial rocky start, Starfield feels special and interesting and deserves to be tried at least.
This is pretty different from the kind of combat you’d expect from a Soulslike, but your Elden Ring skills will come in some use here. Dodging enemy attacks is still important, and bosses will have specific tells to let you know when big attacks are coming. The customization itself may also remind you of FromSoftware’s recent hits. But, again, this is a different kind of beast. Instead of exploring one big map, you take on challenged one mission at a time. You can still encounter some large areas during these sorties, but you’ll come across some limitations — noticeably invisible barriers blocking you from exploring beyond the confines of the mission.
I think any gamers who want a farming sim with less grind and hustle will enjoy Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. It trims a lot of the fat that has become common in the genre. You’re not a warrior or a spelunker or a craftsman. You’re simply a farmer trying to live a quiet life and make your way with the resources you have. If you played the original and loved it, you’ll definitely enjoy the remake because it’s almost the same game but prettier.
