  • I think any gamers who want a farming sim with less grind and hustle will enjoy Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. It trims a lot of the fat that has become common in the genre. You’re not a warrior or a spelunker or a craftsman. You’re simply a farmer trying to live a quiet life and make your way with the resources you have. If you played the original and loved it, you’ll definitely enjoy the remake because it’s almost the same game but prettier.

  • In the end, A Wonderful Life still feels like a game that was released in 2003, and whether or not you consider that a good thing will depend on what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a very simple farming game to kill a few hours with here and there, or just looking for a trip down nostalgia lane, you’ll probably find yourself enjoying it.

  • Overall, I can say with certainty that no matter if you’ve played the original or not, you should check out Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. Although I have some gripes about it, the good parts of the game overshadow the bad. Anyone interested in games with farming like Stardew Valley, or life simulations like The Sims, should enjoy this remake. There are plenty of stuff to do as the seasons go by, and the gameplay loop is gratifying.

  • Overall, it’s difficult to find faults in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. It’s a remake of the most popular Harvest Moon, and Marvelous Inc. has taken the game to the next level by adding more content and making it more inclusive with the option to be male, female, or non-binary and the choice to marry any bachelor or bachelorette no matter which gender you choose to play as.

  • Story Of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a decent remake that fixes some of the issues but also adds painfully little. It’s a neat gift to fans of the original, but newcomers should better look at some of the modern Story Of Seasons titles.

  • In a vacuum, A Wonderful Life’s core gameplay has aged rather well. Two decades in, the core experience is still enjoyable, even though the changes to the in-game economy drastically change up the flow of the game. The QoL improvements and audiovisual overhaul are welcome additions that help modernize the experience somewhat. However, A Wonderful Life faces stiff competition from the plethora of more modern farming sims out there, including its sister games from the same series.

  • The game's graphics and music are lovely enough, gameplay is significantly smoother than it was in the original, and its streamlined approach to farming and quality-of-life updates, such as adding NPC icons to your map so you don't have to look very hard to find people, are good features. Unfortunately, the entire package is just not enough.

  • Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life likely deserves the praise it received back in 2004, but in 2023, bad decisions prevent history from repeating. Fortunately, a patch or two can address the bulk of my qualms. While I’m bewildered by the price increase, I reckon putting it on par with its former edition will bring the fun factor to its former self. The writing is above acceptable – a fair amount of hits, some misses, but it’s consistently pleasant. I felt a calm in my heart each time. The familiarity is like a toasty blanket encasing me. It excels at being tranquil, but until the hiccups are dealt with, the absence of progression made me want to jump to past entries.

  • This meter is somewhat emblematic of my overall experience of this game. Ideas that were once novel are outdated or uninteresting by today’s standards. While Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a welcome update to a classic farm sim, stripping away nostalgic fondness leaves you with an experience that feels lacking in the genre's modern landscape.

  • A Wonderful Life is the first that's properly forced me to settle down and I've found its focus on slowly and carefully tending my farm isn't defunct; it's a different strain of sim that deserves to bloom again after being left fallow for so many seasons.
