  • GREAT While it doesn’t introduce new content, the Switch 2 version of Hogwarts Legacy is a significant upgrade over the Switch 1 version.

  • The success of Hogwarts Legacy clearly shows that good sales and warm feedback from players are ensured not so much by the gameplay thought out to the smallest detail but by carefully reproducing the right atmosphere. But this is already a subtle moment, akin to real magic, and here the nameless developers of Avalanche Software succeeded.

  • What is so enjoyable about the game is how it allows players to be immersed in the lore without being hampered by having to adhere to the events of the books and films. There are more than a few subtle and not so subtle nods to the universe to allow for a connection but still have the freedom to explore new characters and experiences.

  • There are so many fun side quests and activities to enjoy while also hunting for secrets and mysteries in the environment. The story is a little dull and some enemies can be bullet sponges but it does not spoil the fantastically magical adventure that this game offers.

Luckily the game has a pretty good autosave so I never had to repeat anything other than some loading. There were a few quest givers in the world who didn’t show up to start their missions but again this was resolved by a reload of a save.

  • The magic school is an intricate star, itself a giant puzzle and the nexus of the game's character and ethos of learning. Like in the literature and film, it's the closest thing some of these wizards and witches can call a home. You can get lost heading into its classrooms (where learning spells is a thumbstick-gesture-and-button minigame), exploring the common room of your house — ah yes, I got to put on the Sorting Hat and it turns out my character is a Ravenclaw — or heading into your very own Room of Requirement.

  • Hogwarts Legacy is the game we were promised with smooth gameplay and gorgeous graphics of a world of magic. While there are moments of choppy fighting mechanics, this game opens up the possibility of sequels and DLCs exploring more of this magical environment.
