  • Although the core gameplay of ARK is fun and with unique features like the "taming" system, has the potential to be one of the best adventure survival games on mobile, the current performance of the game makes it unplayable.

  • Is a Switch game that can realistically only be played in docked mode actually playable? The entire point of this system is to be able to take your games with you, but ARK can’t really offer that. It draws into question the sanctity of the Nintendo seal of quality. The fact that it is not only available to the public, but costs money is an insult. Don’t buy ARK on Switch.

  • Ark: Survival Evolved, in its current state, is not the best port to grace Nintendo Switch. It is, however, a proper MMORPG survival game with a deep and rewarding crafting system and the potential for some brilliant online cooperation with your fellow survivors. There’s a palpable thrill to moving from simple stone tools to more advanced weaponry as you begin to master the crafting cycle, an experience no other game on Switch can offer right now.

  • Ark: Survival Evolved is a good game, but it just doesn’t suit the Switch platform at all and it’s hard to recommend to anyone. I might be able to recommend it if the visuals and performance gets improved, but right now it’s a no go.

  • ARK: Survival Evolved Mobile is one of those mobile titles that you really want to spend time on. This is a game that pretty much distances previously developed titles for better and worse. The game is something that ARK fans would enjoy as long as their phones can play it, or it can be a good starting point if you want to introduce the world of ARK to new players.

  • Ark: Survival Evolved is a good game that gets bogged down by an over-abundance of ancillary features, frustrating bugs, and a horrendous grind. It can be intimidating for new players and playing with friends online is more important than ever. But if you can get past the rough edges and dig into the prehistoric survival fun that makes Ark so special, there is an entirely unique game here that’s unlike anything else you’ll play.

  • Solid and definitely has an audience. There could be some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun.

  • There is something majestic about Ark's addictive and incredibly atmospheric design. I’ve never been so invested in the protagonist’s predicament, especially when huddling around a fire in the middle of the night or when facing off with a dinosaur that was stalking me, and the sense of being so utterly alone really sank in.

  • A bloated, grindy mess, but so packed with options that a better game is hidden inside it.

  • Ark: Survival Evolved has a bunch of interesting ideas. But by attempting to be a jack-of-all-trades, it doesn’t really feel like it has mastered any particular element. This doesn’t mean there isn’t fun to be had in the ARK; if you enjoy the brutal survival mechanics on offer here, then you will likely spend many dozens, if not hundreds, of hours in the quite lengthy grind as you conquer the primitive world.

About the game

As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, you must hunt, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies, and build shelters to withstand the elements.
