It’s no doubt that Sony had won the last console war with their great exclusives for PlayStation, but it looks like Xbox is ready for a comeback after its purchase of Skyrim studio Bethesda. With fans concerned if Bethesda titles will now be coming to Xbox exclusively, Xbox head Phil Spencer offers his two cents on the matter.
When asked by Kotaku on whether Microsoft will allow The Elder Scrolls VI to come to the PS5 in order to make up for the purchase of Bethesda, Spencer replied:
While Spencer doesn’t outright say it, it’s certainly suggests that Microsoft very much has the freedom to not share games with other consoles. Though Microsoft did share Ori and the Will of the Wisps with the Nintendo Switch, Spencer has said that the deal is ‘not sustainable’ and wants to focus on providing a ‘full Xbox ecosystem somewhere. And that probably means things like Live and Game Pass...’
We don’t know what the future holds for the console wars, but Xbox is certainly impressing with the hardware for the Series X|S; with the latter expected to be the best seller come November.
While I’m against the concept of exclusives in general, I wouldn’t blame Xbox if it wanted to make their purchase of Bethesda worth every penny.
The Xbox Series X|S is expected to launch on Nov. 10, two days before the PS5 which comes out Nov. 12. Find games for the next-gen consoles in our respective lists for Upcoming PS5 Games and Upcoming Xbox Series X Games.
