A remake of the critically acclaimed RPG The Witcher is currently in the works. Poland-based gaming company CD Projekt Red said they are in the early stages of making a modernized version of The Witcher, the first game in their hit series. This announcement also coincided with the 15th anniversary of the game's release.
For The Witcher Remake, CD Projekt Red decided to team up with a third-party studio. They worked with Fool's Theory to recreate the classic fantasy RPG on Unreal Engine 5. However, these are the only details they have released so far. The developers told fans and players to be patient as the project would take time.
It's still early and we want to ensure that the game is created with the utmost care and attention to detail,
they said in a statement published on The Witcher's official website. We want to ask you for patience as it will be a while until we start talking about this project in detail,
it added.
They also took to Twitter to share the same message with over 1.4 million followers. We want to do this right, so please be patient patient-it be a while until we can share more details,
they Tweeted.
CD Projekt Red teased fans of a possible The Witcher Remake during their Strategy Update last October. Back then, it was still referred to as Canis Majoris.
Adam Badowski, Head of the Studio for CD Projekt Red, said redeveloping The Witcher for next-generation gamers meant a lot for their team. The Witcher is where it all started for us... It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then,
said Badowski.
Jakub Rokosz, CEO of Fool's Theory, also revealed that several developers from their studio have previously worked for The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3.
Our goal is to give players another great game from the iconic Witcher series,
added Rokosz.
Fool's Theory is also a game developer based in Poland. Their works included Baldurs Gate III, Outriders, and Project Vitriol.
The Witcher video game series is based on Polish fantasy novels created by Andrzej Sapkowski. All three installments of the video game franchise received positive feedback. They also became a commercial success. CD Projekt Red reportedly earned up to US$ 1 billion from the games' sales alone. Whatoplay crowned The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt the Best PC Game of 2015.
