Fans of the hit shonen series One Piece are in for a treat. Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed that the iconic Kingdom of Alabasta will be part of One Piece Odyssey.
One Piece Odyssey is an upcoming JRPG based on the popular manga. Months before the game's full release, Bandai teased fans with a new trailer featuring none other than Alabasta. On October 22, they published a seven-minute gameplay preview of the game on YouTube.
The first part of the trailer explores the Kingdom of Alabasta, a fan-favorite storyline.
The video was the game's most extensive sneak peek to date. It covers what skills Captain Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Crew have. There are even portions showing cutscenes and mechanics before and during battles.
One Piece Odyssey was officially revealed in March 2022, during One Piece's 25th anniversary.
One of Japan's largest video game companies, Bandai, said earlier that the game would come out on January 13, 2023. It will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
In the meantime, Bandai promises to deliver One Piece Odyssey with a storyline rooted in the canon. They even tapped its creator, Eiichiro Oda, as part of the game's core production team.
In One Piece Odyssey, players explore new and familiar environments that are richly detailed and authentic to One Piece's visual style,
said Bandai. The gameplay started when the Straw Hat Crew stumbled onto a mysterious new island. Players will then embark on various challenges that connect the past and the present of the One Piece canon.
The developers also said they would add new characters and a new story that would be unique to the game.
One Piece Odyssey is the latest addition to the Japanese mega-franchise. It now includes at least 15 feature films, home videos, and licensed merchandise such as toys and novelty items, to name a few.
