God of War (2018) is receiving a new patch to optimize the game for the PlayStation 5. While fans wait for the release of God of War: Ragnarok, Santa Monica Studios is going to release a fix that would allow players to fully enjoy the game to the full range of the PS5’s ability.

As announced by Santa Monica Studios, Feb. 2 will see the release of a free patch that “replaces the current video graphics mode option with a new default setting that will offer the best of both performance and resolution to our PlayStation 5 players!”

Features of the ‘Enhanced Performance Experience’ are listed:

  • Syncs to 60 FPS
  • 4K Checkerboard Resolution
  • 2160p

Of course, players can still opt to select the ‘Original Performance Experience’ which will offer 4K Checkerboard Resolution, but synced to 30 FPS.

While we have yet to get a release date for God of War: Ragnarok, this patch should get everyone hyped up for the return of Kratos and Atreus; at the same time, it could also be a great jumping point for fans who are new to the franchise.

From Santa Monica Studio and creative director Cory Barlog comes a new beginning for one of gaming’s most recognizable icons. Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.

God of War is now available exclusively for the PlayStation. See what else is in store for the PS5 in our list of Upcoming PS5 Games.
