A new platformer fighter is coming to town—or rather, to virtual reality (VR) headsets.
Kluge Interactive announced the development of Final Fury, an upcoming VR-based platformer fighter. They made the reveal during the summer 2023 UploadVR Showcase on June 14.
The studio also dropped a teaser trailer, showing the progress developers have made so far for Final Fury.
Final Fury is Klurge Interactive's second VR game. The California studio is known for producing Synth Riders, the hit cyberpunk rhythm VR game.
While the release date remains blank, Klurge Interactive revealed more details about Final Fury. These included a scheduled closed beta test next month.
In a press release, they announced that they would launch a limited, closed beta test for the game on July 21. Quest 2 headset users will get first access to the game.
Abraham Aguero, creative director at Kluge Interactive, also encouraged VR gamers to join its closed beta event.
Your input will aid us in putting the final touches on Final Fury,
said Aguero.
Like Synth Riders, Final Fury incorporates a futuristic feel into its lore. Final Fury's story takes place in a distant future. There, players find themselves in intergalactic, fighting tournaments.
Klurge Interactive confirmed that their new game would have at least four playable characters. They are Tempest, Glitch, Niko, and Gaia. According to the developers, each represents a different element and has unique fighting abilities. Moreover, gamers will be able to play them during the closed beta test this July.
Final Fury was designed to "revolutionize" action and fighting games, Klurge Interactive said. The game promises to bring "dynamic gameplay and classic arcade elements into the immersive world of virtual reality."
To bring classic Street Fighter-like experiences to the world of VR, we had to rethink classic gameplay mechanics, transporting them out of the 2D flat screen and into the world of VR,
Aguero said.
