Lost Blade, a mobile RPG from Singaporean developer <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/netease-games/">NetEase</a>, will welcome more players this year.

Taiwanese game publisher Envoy Games confirmed that the Chinese version of Lost Blade is heading toward Taiwan. They will release it on <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/lost-blade/" title="Lost Blade for Android">Android</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ios/lost-blade/" title="Lost Blade for iPhone and iPad">iOS</a> phones this February 21.

Weeks ahead of its debut in Taiwan, Lost Blade has already sparked buzz among Taiwanese gamers. Envoy Games reported that as of February 9, the upcoming game's pre-registration had already reached over 300,000. In celebration of this feat, they will give two five-star heroes, the Embroidery Lady and Frost Dragon, to players who have successfully pre-registered on the <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netease.ganghood">Play Store</a> and <a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1603040998">App Store</a>.

Lost Blade is a medieval fantasy <a href="https://whatoplay.com/android/best/rpg/">RPG</a>. Set in Imperial China, the game centers around martial arts. It features a blend of 2D and comic-book art styles to give players an immersive experience, according to Envoy Games. Aside from the main campaign, the game has at least five other modes, including a PvP battle.

Lost Blade first launched last year in selected regions, including Southeast Asia. At that time, the game only supports English as its language. Meanwhile, Envoy Games has activated online communities for Taiwanese gamers of Lost Blade to mark the game's release.

Lost Blade, the Comic-Inspired RPG from NetEase, Makes Its Way to Taiwan

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/dead-island-2/">Dead Island 2</a>, the much-anticipated sequel to the Dead Island series, gets a new release date. But this time, the game will launch earlier than scheduled.

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/deep-silver/">Deep Silver</a> and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/dambuster-studios/">Dambuster Studios</a> confirmed that Dead Island 2 had gone gold. They will finally release the survival horror game this April 21. <q>As a celebration, the two companies have (redacted) decided to shorten the wait for fans and release the game one week earlier than they were expecting,</q> developers said.

Dead Island 2 had been under development for eight years. First introduced to the public in 2014, the game's creators targeted a 2015 release. But for various reasons, from financial to "misalignment," it has been postponed multiple times.

<figure>

</figure>

In addition, the action RPG had been under two gaming studios before it finally landed with Dambuster Studio in 2019. The UK-based game developer is a subsidiary of Deep Silver.

Dead Island 2 serves as the third title in the Dead Island series. The main story will take place in a zombie-infested Los Angeles.

Players can choose up to six playable characters in looting mansions in Beverly Hills, and fighting the undead lurking in Hollywood. Like its predecessor, Dead Island 2 will feature an open-world setting. The developers also confirmed that they would keep some of the well-known mechanics of the first game. These included 'Rage' and crafting systems.

<a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/dead-island/">Dead Island</a> first came out in 2011. It was developed by the Polish game studio <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/techland/">Techland</a>.

Deep Silver initially wanted Techland to continue the series with a sequel. At that time, however, the Warsaw-based studio decided to work with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Dying Light, a zombie survival game.

Dead Island 2 will be available on <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/dead-island-2/">Xbox Series X</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/dead-island-2/">Xbox One</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/dead-island-2/">PlayStation 5</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/dead-island-2/" title="Dead Island 2 for PS4">PlayStation 4</a>, and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/dead-island-2/">PC</a>. / ###

Mobile Game Evil Hunter Tycoon Celebrates 6 Million Downloads

Great news for fans and players of the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/octopath-traveler-ii/">Octopath series</a>! <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/square-enix/">Square Enix</a> has rolled out a playable demo for their upcoming HD-2D RPG, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/octopath-traveler-ii/">Octopath Traveler II</a>. The Japanese game creator said players could play the game for free starting February 9.

The free demo version allows gamers to play it for up to three hours. Exploration is also limited only to the starting points of each character. However, they can carry over the progress they made in the prologue demo to the game's full version, Square Enix said.

In the meantime, the creators of Octopath Traveler II published a new trailer on YouTube during its demo launch.

<div class="video-responsive"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GoShTuxcw-k?controls=0" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

While the three-minute video primarily focused on the eight travelers, it showed snippets of other aspects of the game and a look into its combat mechanics and previews, including boss battles.

Square Enix's decision to launch a demo version of Octopath Traveler II came days ahead of its expected release. The sequel to the 2018 hit turn-based RPG will come out as scheduled, on February 24, they said.

The story for Octopath Traveler II will take place in a new world called the Solistia. The game features eight playable characters, each with a unique class. They are Hikari (Warrior), Agnea (Dancer), Partitio (Merchant), Osvald (Scholar), Throné (Thief), Temenos (Cleric), Ochette (Hunter), and Castti (Apothecary). Other new additions to the game included a dynamic day-night cycle and a battle element named the Latent Power. The Latent Power enables characters to unleash their powerful abilities, said Square Enix.

According to the developers, they decided to introduce a new world and a new set of characters in the sequel to attract first-time players of Octopath.

<q>The game's new storyline, characters, and features make it the perfect entry for newcomers to the series, while also preserving the charm of the original game for veteran players,</q> Square Enix explained.

Octopath Traveler II will land on the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/octopath-traveler-ii/" title="Octpath Traveler II on Nintendo Switch">Nintendo Switch</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/octopath-traveler-ii/" title="Octpath Traveler II on PS5">PlayStation 5</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/octopath-traveler-ii/" title="Octpath Traveler II on PS4">PlayStation 4</a>, and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/octopath-traveler-ii/" title="Octpath Traveler II on PC">PC via Steam</a>. / ###

Square Enix's Octopath Traveler II Has a Free Demo, Out Now

Japanese game creator <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/zoo-corporation/">ZOO Games</a> is set to release a new game this month.

ZOO Games announced that they would launch <a href="https://whatoplay.com/switch/mystic-gate/" title="Mystic Gate for Nintendo Switch">Mystic Gate</a> on February 9. The roguelike dungeon exploration game will be available for <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/mystic-gate/" title="Mystic Gate for Nintendo Switch">PC</a> and Nintendo Switch.

Mystic Gate will also mark ZOO Games' entry into Nintendo. They said the <a href="https://whatoplay.com/upcoming/" title="Upcoming video games">upcoming game</a> would be their first title for Nintendo Switch. It is scheduled for release on the Nintendo eShop this March 9 PST, or a month after its PC launch, ZOO Games confirmed.

An ode to classic roguelike shooter games, Mystic Gate will take players into a pixel art world. The story begins after the gods created a ‘gate’ that connects their world with the mortals on earth. Players must guide the protagonist and his robot companion into exploring the uncharted realm beyond the gate.

According to its creators, Mystic Gate will feature several unique battle mechanics. One of which is a dynamic battlefield that 'keeps players guessing," said ZOO Games. This means that players can expect a different dungeon in every combat.

<q>With changing dungeon layouts, randomly positioned enemies, and loot players get a unique &amp; intense experience that’s never the same twice,</q> developers described. Boss battles also await players in Mystic Gate, they added.

Before revealing the official release date, ZOO Games held two demo events for the game during the Steam Next Festival last October 2022. ZOO Games said Mystic Gate would launch in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish. Developers will also be giving discounts during the game's first first-week release.

ZOO Games is the entertainment and gaming arm of ZOO Corporation. Founded in 1986, ZOO Corporation is a software-developing company based in Ueda city in Nagano, Japan. / ###

Mystic Gate, Japan's ZOO Games' Roguelike Shooter, Launches Feb 9

The newest downloadable content (DLC) for the hit train simulation game <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/train-sim-world-3/">Train Sim World 3</a> will be dropping this month. And it's all about the United States of America.

After months of speculation, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/developers/dovetail-games/">Dovetail Games</a> confirmed that their upcoming DLC would feature locomotives and rails from the Land of the Free.

<q>We have more than just one new train to announce this month. We have a new route, new liveries and upgrades to some existing Train Sim World routes too!</q> they said. In a press release, the UK-based game developer announced that the newest additions to Train Sim World 3 would go live this February 21. Among the highlights will be the iconic Amtrak Acela and the Fallen Flag freight.

<a href="https://www.amtrak.com/acela-train">Acela</a>, Amtrak's flagship passenger train service, will be making its first appearance in the game, Dovetail said. Players can get ahold of the Amtrak Acela once developers roll out the DLC, which will come in two bundles. These are the Train Sim World 3: U.S. Passenger Bundle and the Train Sim World 3: U.S. Freight Bundle.

Dovetail will also introduce the historic American locomotives in the game with the Fallen Flag freight. Gamers can expect at least six scenarios featuring the Fallen Flag. Developers said they would take place on the upgraded version of the Sherman Hill route. Fallen Flag is the name given to defunct railroads in North America.

Aside from the trains themselves, Train Sim World 3's newest DLC will feature new routes from the US. These included the Northeast Corridor: New York-Trenton track. It will have 16 stations, including the line between New Brunswick and Trenton Transit Center. It will also serve as the primary route for the Amtrak Acela, said Dovetail.

Train Sim World 3 is the sixth installment in Dovetail's popular train simulation franchise. It was released in September 2022 on <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/train-sim-world-3/">PC</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps5/train-sim-world-3/">PS5</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-series-x/train-sim-world-3/">Series X|S</a>, <a href="https://whatoplay.com/ps4/train-sim-world-3/">PS4</a>, and <a href="https://whatoplay.com/xbox-one/train-sim-world-3/">Xbox One</a>. A few months after its debut, producers released several DLCs for the game.

It was only in the last quarter of 2022 when Dovetail began publishing teasers about the arrival of an Amtrak train in the game. /##

Amtrak's Acela Heading For Train Sim World 3 in Latest DLC

The Austrian video game publisher THQ Nordic has released the newest installment in its role-playing game (RPG) series, SpellForce.

THQ Nordic announced that <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/spellforce-conquest-of-eo/">SpellForce: Conquest of Eo</a> went live on PC last February 3 and can be purchased through <a href="https://store.steampowered.com/app/1581770">Steam</a>, <a href="https://www.gog.com/game/spellforce_conquest_of_eo">GOG</a>, <a href="https://www.humblebundle.com/store/spellforce-conquest-of-eo">Humble Store</a>, and <a href="https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/spellforce-conquest-of-eo">Epic Games</a>.

SpellForce: Conquest of Eo is the 11th installment in the series. Unlike other titles, it does away with <a href="https://whatoplay.com/pc/genre/real-time-strategy/">real-time strategy (RTS)</a>. Producers instead introduced turn-based combat for the single-player game. While it deviates from SpellForce's signature RTS mechanics, THQ Nordic confirmed that they kept other familiar elements, including the 4X experience.

Three days since its release, fans and players have had different opinions about the creators' choice to add a new style to a SpellForce game. Twitter user <a href="https://twitter.com/Hat4Wizard/status/1621536782671028225">@Hat4Wizard commented</a> on <a href="https://twitter.com/THQNordic/status/1621509448668971011">THQ Nordic</a>'s Tweet announcing the game's release that he did not like the <q>new style of gameplay.</q> On the other hand, some players came to SpellForce: Conquest of Eo's defense. Steam user Whisk3y_Fire wrote a review, saying that he had a lot of fun playing the game within the first five hours. Whisk3y_Fire added that players should read the description before immersing themselves in the game.

As of February 6, SpellForce: Conquest of Eo still enjoyed 'mostly positive ratings' from gamers. The latest game in the SpellForce series received a gamerscore of 7.6 from more than 350 reviews on Steam and GOG, according to Whatoplay. We also took into account the reviews and ratings of four critics and assigned the game a criticscore of 7.6.

SpellForce: Conquest of Eo was called a <q>delightful spin on the 4X strategy genre</q> by <a href="https://www.gamespace.com/all-articles/news/spellforce-conquest-of-eo-pc-review/">Catherine Daro of GameSpace.com</a>.

In a review published on February 2, Daro, however, pointed out that the game fell short of the ambitious project players had expected it to be. She gave SpellForce: Conquest of Eo a score of 7. <a href="https://www.softpedia.com/reviews/games/pc/spellforce-conquest-of-eo-review-536951.shtml">Andrei Dumitrescu from Softpedia</a> also shared the same observation as Daro. He said the game was "pretty standard when it comes to fantasy universes."

<q>SpellForce: Conquest of Eo is a good-looking experience, mixing a wide range of influences when it comes to presentation,</q> he wrote in his review.

THQ Nordic first announced SpellForce: Conquest of Eo in June 2022.

The French gaming studio has released its official trailer on YouTube. The video provides players with a minute-long glimpse into the world they created. It also includes several combat previews.

According to its creators, Strayed Lights will bring players a "unique atmospheric" feel. The game does not have any dialogues, said Alexandre Arramon, co-founder and creative director at Embers. Instead, players will have the freedom to interpret their encounters.

<q>We intentionally added no text or dialogue in the game to let players come up with their own interpretation,</q> Arramon explained.

Developers have also tapped Grammy award-winner composer Austin Wintory for the game's soundtrack. Beyond its epic and atmospheric settings, players can expect an "enriching and illuminating journey that reflects life" in Strayed Lights.

Damien Dessagne, Embers' CEO and co-founder, described it as a “poetic and oneiric” reflection on the journey of life.

<q>We want players to have that amazing feeling of overcoming a tough challenge while staying accessible,</q> said Dessagne. The gaming studio executive also hoped players could experience a different game they can relate to and feel connected. <q>We also hope they can experience a sense of wonder by exploring the world we created and the creatures in it. We can't wait to see how players make the world of Strayed Lights their own,</q> he added. / ###
