Golden Joystick Awards 2024: Black Myth: Wukong Takes Top Honor

Starward Industries has announced their ambitious new title, Dante’s Ring, set to launch on Steam Early Access in 2025.

The reveal came during The Golden Joysticks, the world’s longest-running public-voted gaming awards, with a striking retro-styled trailer showcasing the game’s unique blend of action, survival, and mystery.

Dante’s Ring takes players to a post-apocalyptic Earth packed with chaotic nature. They must navigate an unrelenting battle against the forces of nature during a catastrophic volcanic eruption on a mysterious and ancient island.

Taking on the role of a daring explorer, the mission is not only to survive but also to rescue as many lives as possible while contending with the island’s fiery chaos. Players will face an array of natural hazards, equipped with fireproof armor and retro-styled tools designed to withstand the island’s fury.

With its distinctive anti-combat focus and immersive retro aesthetics, Dante’s Ring aims to deliver a wholly novel journey through fire and mystery. Players who enjoy combat-less experiences may enjoy Journey and similar games. It was regarded as one of the best PS4 adventure games at the time.

Fans of Dante's Ring have also compared it to Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, where combat is always discouraged. They also found out similar methods of exploration, such as traversing tricky terrain and carrying dead bodies. Yet unlike ‘Death Stranding’, it does not have a baby attached to the player’s body.

The game promises to challenge players with intense survival scenarios, leading to strategic thinking. Sometimes a solution will not always work, which is why every choice shapes the unfolding narrative. This pushes players to weigh the cost of their actions, whether they prefer finding out the mystery of the island’s disaster, or save as many lives as possible.

Fans can look forward to diving into the depths when the game hits Steam Early Access next year.

Nullpointer Games has announced that its upcoming occult card-crafting narrative RPG, The Horror at Highrook, will be funded by OuterSloth, the indie game development fund established by the creators of Among Us.

OuterSloth, launched in June 2024 by InnerSloth following the massive success of their social-deduction party game, Among Us. It has already backed seven projects, including titles by developers of Venba, Thirsty Suitors, and I Am Your Beast. The Horror at Highrook now joins this growing list of supported games, signaling strong confidence in its unique premise.

The Horror at Highrook is a game best described as a cosmic horror RPG inspired by board games, escape rooms and campfire ghost stories.

It puts players in charge of a team of investigators exploring a haunted manor in an effort to unravel the mystery of a missing family. Players must craft solutions, summon occult nightmares, and uncover the manor’s secrets through lore-rich gameplay.

The game features a distinct art style reminiscent of Mike Mignola’s ‘Hellboy’ comics. It even borrows familiar Lovecraftian trappings from Red Barrel Studios’ Darkest Dungeon series. It is a bleak and haunting card-game RPG where anything could happen. Players highly interested in the Gothic-horror genre can find a lot of interesting things to learn and do here.

Tom Betts, owner of Nullpointer Games, is no stranger to the indie scene. He has over a decade of experience and titles such as Into the Pit (2021) under his belt, Betts shared his excitement about partnering with OuterSloth, stating that, “...seeing OuterSloth reinvest in the industry is incredibly reassuring.” Grateful for the Among Us company, he further said that, “This partnership gives us hope for a brighter future in a turbulent industry.…”

Yolk Heroes also contains mini-games and skill-building activities. Through these, heroes can grow into powerful adventurers and join the Adventurer’s Guild and face tougher challenges. Like battling against the Golfing Goblins, Disco Dragons, and Sand Witches.

But the journey doesn’t stop there.

Upon reaching adulthood, heroes embark on quests to gain experience, collect gold, and unlock advanced equipment. The game offers nine unique classes, including Mage, Warrior, and Paladin.

One of Yolk Heroes’ standout features is its real-time progression system. This means that heroes can continue their quests even when the game is closed.

This idle mechanic also lets users check in periodically to monitor their hero’s progress and ensure their needs are met. Failed quests send heroes back to the guild, where players can nurse them back to health before venturing out again.

The mobile version of Yolk Heroes includes all the features of the PC version, now optimized for smaller screens.

Meanwhile, pre-registration is now open for Yolk Heroes on iOS and Android. Devs have also prepared in-game item giveaways and special launch deals to celebrate the transition to mobile devices.

Tamagotchi-Inspired Game Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago is Going Mobile

PlayStation players have reason to celebrate as Dying Light 2: Stay Human - Reloaded Edition joins the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog today.

This makes the critically acclaimed zombie survival game accessible to a wider audience, allowing fans to experience its signature parkour gameplay in a zombie-infested world.

The Reloaded Edition includes all major updates released since the game's launch in February 2022. This is already a given as Techland is known to continually support their games years after its release. It reflects developer Techland's commitment to community-driven improvements.

The latest edition allows players to enjoy refined gameplay mechanics, expanded features, and the option to tackle the game's campaign solo or with friends in up to four-player co-op.

With the PlayStation 5 Pro’s release, Techland has also introduced exclusive graphical enhancements for the latest Sony platform. The enhancements span four distinct modes:

The Balanced mode offers upscaled 4K at 60 FPS, with an increased base resolution of 1512p and improved lighting and reflection effects.
The Resolution mode provides native 4K at 30 FPS, featuring upgraded shadow and lighting details.

Performance mode delivers upscaled 4K with VRR, achieving up to 120 FPS, alongside enhanced visual elements such as fog and reflections.
Quality mode combines upscaled 4K at 30 FPS with Ray Tracing, providing richer lighting and texture details.

These updates are designed to showcase what the PlayStation 5 Pro is capable of, ensuring both new and returning players can enjoy the best version of Dying Light 2.

Released on February 3, 2022, Dying Light 2 was the much-awaited sequel to Techland’s parkour-based zombie title, Dying Light. While it is a complete improvement from the 2015 original, the sequel fell short in its story. It received a playscore of 8.2 on PlayStation 5, whereas the Series X|S and PC versions received playscores of 7.4 and 7.8 respectively.

This sacrifice of narrative cohesion gave its parkour system more focus. Now, traveling across the open-world packed with zombies has never been this seamless.

With its inclusion in the PlayStation Extra November Catalog, subscribers can acquire the game for free as long as they have an active subscription. This includes all the latest updates and upgrades from the Reloaded Edition.
