  • With the ability to upgrade your weapons, collect pets, and increase your stats, there’s a constant sense of progression in WitchSpring R. It’s one of the best things about it, and makes it an essential purchase for RPG fans.

  • A simple and enjoyable RPG that works great on Steam Deck. The game hides within an enchanted forest so deep that almost no one has heard of it. It's a pity – hopefully the title's console release will change anything about this.

  • That all being said, WitchSpring R is an achievement. Coming from a two person development team, this is a labor of love that remade the first game in a mobile gaming series into a hidden gem of an RPG that is well worth your time. I enjoyed every moment I had with WitchSpring R and I’ll be keeping an eye out for any other games from Kiwiwalks. This is a really great concept and I hope to see a lot more from this series and this game.

  • WitchSpring R feels like it is the comfort food of JRPGs. It isn’t too taxing. There are some typical JRPG story elements. Its turn-based battle system is sound. The story starts a bit slow, due to a tutorial holding your hand through every gameplay element. However, there’s some fun stuff happening with the lore and Pieberry’s story can be entertaining.

  • Underneath its charming exterior, WitchSpring R is a JRPG…it’s just not evident of that classification until the 20th hour. At that point, it doesn’t matter what genre it is, only that it keeps you fully engaged. From the lack of necessary grinding, hidden depth within its crafting system, and piecemeal sidequests, there’s quite a bit of unique things to do in WitchSpring R on Pieberry’s quest for pie. Thankfully, that charm persists until the very end.

  • WitchSpring R is a delightful turn-based RPG with oodles of heart and humour and an enjoyable battle system to boot. It stumbles in a few areas and lacks balance but this sweet treat will still be a delicious addition to any RPG fan's library.

  • If you’re willing to look past a handful of typos and some fairly significant visual issues, WitchSpring R is a great example of turn-based combat with a strong story to back it up. It’s whimsical and enchanting, and you won’t be able to predict how it all ends. On top of this, the NG+ option gives it an extra splash of replayability for players who like a challenge. That being said, the visual quirks do take a toll on the score here. While they weren’t game-breaking, having the main character pop out of existence during crucial cutscenes was frustrating, and it did affect our overall experience.

  • An adorable, hilarious, and charming little gem of a game that punches above its weight in nearly every regard.

  • WitchSpring R showcases a brilliant gameloop of balancing its story progression with its many systems. On the box, it may seem like too much information to retain, but in practice, it all blends seamlessly together to never hold the player back from progression. The adventure is massive, too, with a lengthy campaign and a large connected world with plenty to explore.
