  • At the end of the day WipEout 2048 is a game that manages to keep the tradition of the WipEout franchise alive, but on the new PS Vita. Newbies to the franchise will face a bit of a learning curve, but one they get used to using each vehicles airbrakes they should find themselves a whole lot better. I was happy to see that such a game like WipEout made the transition to the Vita in pretty good shape resulting in pretty good game.

  • WipEout 2048 really has it all for any fans of racing games or for those just looking for a good time. Great visuals, sounds, controls and overall gameplay make for a remarkable experience on a portable device. It's the ultimate WipEout title for gamers on the go and should be considered a must have for any Vita owner with a need for speed and looking to live “Vita” on the edge.

  • WipEout’s core experience – fast races, awesome music, and incredible graphics – are better than they’ve ever been in WipEout 2048. However, the game’s more experimental features like motion controls and touch interface fall flat. If you’re hoping for a crazy new WipEout experience on the Vita, you won’t get it. But really now, why would you want one? WipEout 2048 is a fantastic game, and it belongs in every launch Vita.

  • Of course, this being a Wipeout game, players can expect incredible looking graphics bathed in neon, as well as attractive scenery, dynamic lighting, a wonderful depth of field that stretches into the distance and plenty of sexy rides.

  • If you’ve been enjoying the quality PlayStation Network and PlayStation Portable offerings over the past few years, you’ll find more of the same in Wipeout 2048. The online features should have been a selling point, but technical issues cause them to be more of a sizable defect. While Zone mode is damn near worth the price of admission alone, it’s time for Studio Liverpool to refresh the franchise with some big ideas or hand it over to someone who will.

  • Now here's the thing: WipEout 2048 is an interesting little title with a surprising amount of depth for a game that's so shallow in the content department. The graphics are rock solid and the controls are everything you would expect. However, the drawbacks are almost too much to ignore.

  • The things you want from a Wipeout game are here, but they're surrounded by a bunch of caveats. The UI to get into a race, as mentioned, is pretty poor and needs more options. The load times, even though a patch was put out to shorten them, are ridiculously lengthy. And once you're in-game, you'll find that, even under the best of circumstances, the game just doesn't feel fast enough. The frame rate is usually pretty stable, but it's stable at a lower rate that makes all the action look choppy and feel sluggish.

  • ?Multiple tiers and diverging paths, along a great sense of speed enabled by smooth technical performance create great potential for exciting races, but a satisfactory performance can require extensive course memorization and extreme precision to hit boost pads scattered over wide spaces and the utilization of often-unwieldy weaponry. The ability to skip challenges after failing multiple times and an inconsistent driver assist option does nothing to make the game accessible to anyone that lacks serious dedication.

  • WipEout 2048 offers a tactically exciting, rewarding and challenge campaign mode with some gloriously-designed tracks and nice variety of events. Without testing the online campaign mode, it’s difficult to rate it, but it certainly looks set-up to offer some of the most intense and competitive WipEout racing to date.

  • 2048 is one of the best launch games on the Vita, and easily the best racer, speeding past Ridge Racer and Asphalt Injection. Compared to other WipEouts, the new edition doesn’t bring that much new to the table, despite being a reboot of sorts, but it doesn’t need to – it’s a refinement of the series that takes most of the best parts of the franchise and packs it into a powerful handheld title.
