  • Wheelman is a well-built game, but it's not without a few hiccups. The out-of-vehicle gunplay – while nicely breaking up the driving segments – is an awkward, merely adequate combination of over-the-shoulder, auto, and free targeting.

I wanted Wheelman to be a guilty pleasure, like 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, but it's just guilty of being a poor game.

  • Wheelman, in a lot of ways, makes for a great spot of relatively mindless fun. It's tightly focused on the driving, and it gets that stuff right, making for an exciting romp through the streets of Barcelona.

  • Life in this fast lane won't hold your attention for more than a few hours, as the high-octane action fizzles out all too quickly

  • Wheelman is a blast when the tempo is fast, the violence is at a low, and you’re nailing all the corners while pursuing an objective. The cinematic flair adds to these charming traits. However, Wheelman feels like a dud much too often when you’re crowded by a bunch of cheap enemy vehicles, are forced to get out of the car, or have to stumble through a variety of poorly designed missions.

  • Wheelman is one of those depressingly average action games - for all these criticisms it never quite plumbs the depths of unplayability

  • Wheelman introduces some neat ideas to the open-world driving genre, and when you're moving at high speed, it's a lot of fun. The slow-motion gunplay and air-jacking work particularly well, and really make you feel as though you're blessed with superhuman driving abilities. Nevertheless, there are also some big problems, particularly the on-foot combat and complete lack of multiplayer.

  • Fun can be found in the simplest of things, and Wheelman nails car combat to the extent that it carries the whole game on its wheels. There are clear issues, with re-spawning enemy drivers causing a whole heap of hassle at times, and the aforementioned on-foot combat is forgettable at best, but for the most part you'll want to stay behind the wheel.

A clumsy and lifeless last-gen action game

  • Between the game's missions and plethora of optional side missions, there is a surprising amount of fun, action-filled gameplay to be had with Wheelman.
