- I can't possibly recommend this game any higher. Assuming you don't have some unnatural slant against fighting games, VF5 Online is neck and neck with The Orange Box in the race for finest game on the system. If you have ever enjoyed a fighting title, punching someone, or ninjas in general, you'll be a fan.
Earnest Cavalli · Nov 08, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Virtua Fighter 5 is a great fighting game and the addition of a good multiplayer mode only makes it better. But keep in mind that the game is geared toward players who have experience with the series and isn't always friendly to new players. If you've been playing Virtua Fighter for any length of time, this game is worth adding to your library.
Jeff Gerstmann · Oct 31, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Virtua Fighter 5 is a fantastic fighting game. The fighting system is deep, complex, and wonderful. If only the other elements surrounding VF5 were of equal measure. The presentation is fairly standard stuff and the Quest Mode should be online. It would be unfair to hold the 360's poor d-pad against AM2, but know that if you want to get the most out of VF5, you should pick up the HORI arcade stick. If you love fighting games, there's really no choice but to pick up VF5.
Hilary Goldstein · Oct 30, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Better late than never for 360, and in this case way better because VF5 came bearing the all important gift of online play. It can not be debated that this is a hardcore gamers' fighting game, but even those looking to just pick up and play will find more than enough to enjoy in this title.
Tom Kelly · Oct 30, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - As a fan of all the major 3-D beat-'em-ups out there, I'll refrain from saying it's better than the rest; it's equally good in its own, unique, satisfying way. More than any other beat-'em-up, being good at VF5 makes you feel good about your gaming skill, kind of like those ultra-hard 2D shooters Treasure keeps knocking out for masochists.
Wesley Yin-Poole · Oct 24, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - If you’re the type of player who would rather mash the buttons and pull off incredible moves like in Tekken or Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter 5 is definitely not for you. But if you enjoy really digging into a fighting system and mastering its intricacies you’ll be astounded at the depth on display here. The lack of online play is a huge disappointment and it's definitely light on the modes, but Virtua Fighter 5 is still the gold standard that other fighting games will be trying to top for years to come.
Game Trailers · Feb 20, 2007 Reviewed on PS3 - Virtua Fighter 5 kicks a whole lot of MMA ass. It offers one of the most intuitive and robust fighting systems ever assembled and the customization options and quest mode are great fun. Granted, its AI isn't very good, it has a couple of interface issues and the lack of online is a major negative, but the mechanics here are so amazing, that it doesn't hurt the overall package as much as it would in other games.
Jeremy Dunham · Feb 20, 2007 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Level design, although not as significant as it is in Dead or Alive 4, where environments are destructible and ostensibly boundary-less, is still excellent. There are no cardboard backdrops or stretched photograph horizons: VF5 is 3D to its core. No matter where you go in VF5, its locations have been developed to make you say "wow". That's the one non-word we kept repeating while playing Virtua Fighter 5 on PS3.
CVG Staff · Feb 13, 2007 Reviewed on PS3 - If you've yet to play VF5 (or Virtua Fighter at all for that matter), this is the point at which you should do something to change that. You owe it to yourself to sample how close to perfection SEGA has come with this and you owe it to SEGA to give something back to the people behind this outstanding fighter and boost the already huge VF community.
Graham Swann · Oct 26, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - If you're prepared to put the time into Virtua Fighter 5, you'll find it gives you just as much warmth and love in return. This applies double for those who have an equally fanatical friend to play this with yet with the online mode providing plenty of competition, even that's a moot point. Is the most balanced, prettiest, deepest fighting game ever made perfection? No but in this case, being the most balanced, prettiest and deepest fighting game is more than enough.

About the game
The fifth entry in SEGA's advanced, realistic fighting game series. Once again, the realtime level of visual detail and character animation has been upped to the most advanced levels, with next-generation lighting and detail on the fighters and environments. Virtua Fighter 5 features an all-star cast of 17 fighters, including characters from the previous iterations along with two new characters named El Blaze and Eileen. Players will be able to customize their characters by selecting from four uniquely patterned costumes and a wide range of attachable items that can be placed onto each fighter's various body parts. Players will not only achieve victory by defeating highly-skilled opponents, but will also compete for prizes and earn in-game money through the match to buy many items at an in-game shop.
