  • Sam's gloomy mood colors the entire game and adds depth to the storyline. Superb voice acting from Michael Ironside brings a new dimension to Sam Fisher and provides an emotional backdrop for the disturbing events in the game. And believe us, there are many disturbing events in the this game.

  • The PS3 version of Double Agent is still a great game. Ubisoft has managed to craft a well-rounded package that features the series' signature stealth action gameplay, along with a rich and enjoyable multiplayer suite and some impressive visuals. And while Sam likes to grumble a lot in the game about how he's getting too old for all of this, Double Agent proves that there's plenty of life left in the franchise.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent is a fun game. Every mission seemed to have something compelling to it whether it was eliminating every enemy on a map or rappelling down the side of a hotel in Shanghai. Although I think some glitches and a weak multiplayer mode keeps the title from being an impressive $60 purchase, a solid story, good visuals and awesome gameplay mechanics have me recommending Double Agent to lock-picking fans of the genre.

The PC version of Double Agent is essentially a straight port of the Xbox 360 version, sharing all the content, A.I., campaigns, and levels online and off. Fisher animates and moves well on the PC, and the excellent lighting and miniscule details all show up well. With the exception of little graphic artifacts and tiny visual glitches here and there, which detract a little from the game's good looks, the PC version, even on the hightest setting, is slightly inferior to the 360 version.

  • Splinter Cell Double Agent isn't the next-gen Splinter Cell experience that Ubisoft might want us to believe it is, but it's still a very impressive single and multiplayer experience. The single-player campaign is excellent throughout (bar a rather out of place opening level) and the multiplayer has been changed to allow more people to enjoy it. The double agent element gives the game a slightly unique feeling, but at times it's hard to shake the thought that you're playing a Chaos Theory expansion pack; albeit a very attractive one.

A new benchmark for the stealth genre

  • Sam looks amazing in the next-generation, and the good news it that Double Agent has the gameplay to match. Choosing your own path through the adventure will ensure different experiences for each player, and the multiplayer options are robust and addictive. If the trial-and-error aesthetic turned you off in the past, not a whole lot has changed in that regard, and the series becomes increasingly less accessible for new players with each entry. But Double Agent is an unforgettably tense experience no stealth fan can afford to miss.

  • Double Agent's few keen twists on Splinter Cell's single-player gameplay don't result in a remarkably different experience from the previous games, though that doesn't mean it still isn't some of the best stealth action out there. The multiplayer portion, meanwhile, introduces some inventive changes that seem to be for the better and that help make this unique mode easier to get into and often more exciting to play than before. And these two parts add up to an excellent game.

  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent is a step in the right direction for the series. Although there aren’t many significant changes to the gameplay, the game still feels more exhilarating and more immersive because of the improved visuals, better storyline, lack of darkness, and the moral choices Sam if forced to make.

  • Double Agent on the PS3 is still a fine game, and its clunkiness is excusable when taken in the context of its achievements, dragging fans out of their comfort zone in commendable fashion, and arguably providing enough content between its separate single- and multiplayer components that each could stand alone.
