While EndWar seemed fairly advanced for a console game, it's easily lost in the crowded and competitive RTS field found on the PC. This is also a game that revolves around its voice command system, which is necessary for a console game but relatively worthless on the PC. For PC gamers accustomed to faster, deeper, and more exciting RTS games, EndWar will seem like a voice in the wilderness.

  • EndWar is a polished, innovative game that does a great job pairing its impressive voice command feature with a focused, fast-paced design. It doesn't flat-out require that you talk to your game system, but it does reward you for trying out a new way to play. The game essentially plays the same whether online or not, but the number of strategies and counter-strategies gives the game legs. EndWar is console strategy done uniquely, and done right.

  • Once you get over the fact that playing EndWar makes you look and sound like a bit of a twat, you start to have quite a lot of geek-fuelled fun ordering your army about the battlefield, but we can't help but feel that EndWar is more proof of concept technical showcase than fully fleshed out triple-A title. The future is bright, however. Safe in the knowledge that EndWar's voice command system works, and is fun to use, we hope Ubisoft Shanghai gets the opportunity to make a sequel, where, we imagine, there will be much more to wrap your voice box around.

  • The single-player game against the computer, while fun and easy to play, doesn't have the strategic depth to keep a man entertained for long

  • EndWar's unique voice command mechanic makes it wholly unique among strategy games, and it's this innovation that stands out above all of its other features. Strip it away, and you'll find a RTS game that can be fun and satisfying, but is ultimately just a bit too simplistic. But even if strategy veterans won't find all the complexities they'd expect, there's something to be said for EndWar's smart match types and cinematic presentation, which will hopefully keep the game's servers populated for some time to come.

  • Tom Clancy's EndWar is a solid RTS that fans of the genre shouldn't miss. The new voice command system works flawlessly, and players should find it to be a mighty rewarding experience. Still, gamers who aren't into strategic war-games will likely find the title to be dull. As such, it's not a must-buy across the board. Nevertheless, it is a noble effort by Ubisoft Shanghai, and one that will doubtless lead to the birth of a strong strategy franchise for the future.

EndWar offers something new, refreshing, and a little exciting for console players. It's sort of a coming of age when what could be seen as the last stalwart of the PC -- the RTS -- is made from the ground up with every classic convention put on the chopping block to please the couch player. This is a design that will surely be mimicked and improved upon in the future. For now, we have a good start and a game that is worth playing.

  • It’s easy to criticise EndWar for relying on the voice command system too much, or for only having a limited number of units. What people forget though is that EndWar is trying something new, and despite it’s flaws, it’s actually been more or less a success. If the voice system can be perfected, the this could potentially open up a lot of doors development wise of the home console, perhaps even the pc gaming scene.

  • A beautifully slick interface, stripped down mechanics, and the best voice-recognition system of any game we've played. It's got plenty to offer armchair strategists, but balancing issues, pathfinding and AI niggles and a disappointing lack of variety in factions stop it just short of its obvious potential. It's lacking a bit of Clancy magic, then, although we'll be interested to see where Ubisoft takes it from here.
