- Telltale's Walking Dead series is off to a great start with A New Day. This is more story than game, so there's little challenge in the hours you spend fleeing and fighting and talking about the zombie hordes. But that approach works here, allowing the game to build upon the cruel, character-driven comic series and stand apart from more mayhem-oriented zombie games like Left 4 Dead and Dead Island.
Brett Todd · Apr 25, 2017 Reviewed onRead full review - By some creative miracle, modest difficulty and interaction are outweighed by genuinely great survival storytelling.
Evan Lahti · May 01, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While The Walking Dead: Episode 1 – A New Day is only a two to three hour affair, it is game that manages to perfectly capture the essence of the comics and TV series. For only 400 points ($5.00), Episode 1 is one of the more unique games on Xbox Live and one that fans of the franchise needs to pick-up. Fans of fast-paced hack and slash zombie killing games may get annoyed with the style of game but those looking for an experience which stays true to the brand, then this is the best 5 bucks you even spent.
HITMAN-INC · Apr 30, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Ultimately, I can forgive The Walking Dead: A New Day’s weak puzzles and occasional technical issues because of all the other things it gets right. By focusing on moral choice and character relationships, Telltale has managed to remain faithful to the source material while simultaneously crafting a zombie game that feels fresh compared to its more action-oriented brethren.
Stephanie Chan · Apr 29, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - With The Walking Dead, Telltale’s experimentation with an unusual formula pays off. With its focus on dialogue choices and puzzles that more naturally fit into a narrative, The Walking Dead is a unique experience. In less than three hours, the game delivers a thoughtful, character-driven story that takes a refreshing look at the zombie apocalypse. And like any great episodic show, I'm eager to see what happens next.
Ben Reeves · Apr 27, 2012 Reviewed on PC - The Walking Dead: A New Day was an excellent start to the series. Despite introducing so many characters in a short space of time, Telltale has managed to plant the seeds of emotional connection; which I can only hope leads to more intense drama and difficult decisions. Its limited opportunities for interaction is probably its biggest failing beyond the bugs, but there’s a lot of potential here.
Fraser Brown · Apr 27, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The Walking Dead is an unflinchingly brutal portrayal of a zombie outbreak.
Jeffrey Matulef · Apr 26, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - That said, on its own merits, THE WALKING DEAD EPISODE 1 is a unique title worth giving a try, regardless of its IP—but especially for those who appreciate what the established franchise strives for in storytelling.
Eddy Fettig · Apr 25, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - All in all, the first episode of The Walking Dead was a fantastic experience. The fact that I live in Georgia and know exactly where all this takes place is a big bonus to me. The story telling is wonderful, and the action sequences, while simple and few in number, will keep the player at the edge of their seat the entire time. The star of the game is the character interactions and the way the game handles your relationships with other people. If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead in any way, you need to pick this game up. Fans of a good narrative should look into this game, as well. Let’s just say, I can’t wait for the next episode.
Drew Leachman · Apr 25, 2012 Reviewed on PCRead full review - As much as I nitpick, I still enjoyed The Walking Dead: Episode 1 - A New Day. As a fan of the comics, the game absolutely nails the tone and setting. Important characters like Hershel and Glen make an appearance, and they act just as you would expect them to. The voice acting is great, and the models are very expressive. You can tell exactly when someone is pissed off at you, or terrified at the zombies that are chasing you.
