- There is no mistaking P.B. Winterbottom for a young man, and it's a shame that the controls seem to reflect that he is getting on in years. There is a sluggishness to your movement that makes some of the more action-packed moments a bit difficult to pull off. The slight control problems coupled with the uneven difficulty keep this whimsical puzzle game from being something truly special, but it is still a thoroughly enjoyable game.
Tom Mc Shea · Apr 20, 2010 Reviewed on PC, X360Read full review - Sadly, these striking visuals only serve to exacerbate Winterbottom’s one true issue: some incredibly bland level design. For the most part, the game limits the majority of its puzzles to tiny static screens, which (accompanied by the monochromatic look) erodes the player’s willingness to continue. Puzzle fans will finish the 3-4 hour quest for sweets hungry for more, but others may lose their appetite before the final course arrives.
Jordan Baughman · Mar 17, 2010 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is like a good pie, the kind mothers used to make. It's warm and satisfying with a near-perfect consistency throughout. It might be appealing to try and devour all at once, but trying that may leave you with a bit of an ache. No, savor it. It's likely to be one of the best damn pies you're going to enjoy this year.
Conrad Zimmerman · Feb 23, 2010 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The Misadventures of Mr. P.B. Winterbottom has the looks and the brains to be one of the best XBLA games. You've never seen or heard anything quite like it and the puzzle challenges are wildly inventive. It is extremely difficult, though, and can be exhausting to the point that you aren't motivated to continue playing. It can also be very rewarding when you finally figure a puzzle out. Just take a break and come back, because this is a very clever game that deserves to be played.
Daemon Hatfield · Feb 17, 2010 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Which isn't to say that Winterbottom is not a fun game. It is fun, and challenging, but don't expect an artsy, black and white version of Super Mario Bros. It's not a fun-filled romp through a fantastic world - it's a test to divide the clever from the slow. Have fun, but all the same, buyer beware!
Kyle B. Stiff · Feb 17, 2010 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The entire quest will probably take most gamers between three and four hours to complete, which could be an issue for some people. If you’re one of them, I encourage you to stop whining. The greatness of a game isn’t decided by length. The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom impresses with its puzzle design, offbeat humor, and sheer style. Hopefully P.B. has more hijinks in his future, because I already miss the ol’ buttwit.
Joe Juba · Feb 16, 2010 Reviewed on X360 - There isn’t much else to say about this title. It’s a Masterpiece in my eyes and I rarely use that term. There is a quality about the game that sucks you into the world and expels a sense of magic. It felt a lot like when a new Secret of Monkey Island would come out (in the 90’s not the new ones), the feel that you were playing something special.
Greg Baronian · May 06, 2010 Reviewed on PCRead full review - What's perhaps most astonishing about the whole thing is the fact that, despite the game's fierce indie credibility and time-twisting preoccupations, the ghost of Braid refuses to haunt Winterbottom. This is, above all else, a supremely confident game: confident in its charm, in its challenges, and in its unique identity. If you thought Braid gave puzzle-platformers a soul, this one is all about personality.
Winterbottom.
Alberto Pastor · Feb 24, 2010 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Original e imaginativo, parece algo completamente nuevo, como si nunca hubiese existido nada igual. Técnicamente brillante, emulando una película muda y arropado por una fantástica banda sonora. Duro de roer, puede ser algo corto, pero superarlo por primera vez en poco tiempo sólo está al alcance de los mejores estrategas.
