- All in all, the Darkness is a great game. I don't think this game should be missed by anyone who is old enough to play this very mature title. The single player campaign is a completely enjoyable experience and the multiplayer action is competent enough to offer many more hours of fun to this title. The Darkness is truly a brilliant ray of light during this otherwise abysmal summer gaming drought.
Adam Brown · Jul 06, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - The Darkness is all about the story and that's what you'll be buying this for. It does a great job of pulling you in to what's going on in the world. It's not often a game genuinely shocks you when something major happens but this will. There's an awesome twist half-way though that completely turns the game on its head. We're dying to tell you about it, but we won't. You need to see it for yourself.
Gavin Ogden · Jun 29, 2007 Reviewed on X360 - The Darkness' appeal comes from its many different parts coming together in a really great way. The believability of the characters mixed with this hellacious demonic force fits together in a really interesting fashion; the gameplay is very satisfying, even if it isn't especially challenging; and the presentation is top-notch.
Jeff Gerstmann · Jun 27, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Even with its faults, it's impossible to dislike The Darkness. It's such a stunningly put together game that succeeds far more often than it fails, with storytelling and direction that puts many other games to shame. With a little more time in the dark we might have seen a more rounded end product, but hopefully the guys at Starbreeze have already started work on what could be a brilliant sequel.
Tom Orry · Jun 27, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The Darkness is an ambitious game that provides an extremely unique experience. It’s like a great amusement park ride: fun while it lasts. But peel off that shiny paint and pause the adrenaline rush and you see there are some core problems hiding in the shadows, like underlying structure and play that just don’t completely congeal. Even so, it’s a hell of a ride, and it’s hard not to be forgiving and embrace this darkness.
Game Trailers · Jun 26, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - The Darkness is a wonderfully gruesome adventure. There are some truly dark and even shocking moments in the story. There's a twist at the end of the first chapter that shook me a bit. And though the story does lose its way and makes little sense towards the end, it's still a fun ride. It's too bad that the AI and gameplay mechanics couldn't be smoothed out a bit more to match the impressive visual presentation.
Hilary Goldstein · Jun 26, 2007 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - It's difficult to find serious fault with The Darkness; while we loathe its draconian just-one-save system, it's a stunning achievement that'll keep you riveted from its startlingly realistic opening car chase to its final, epic massacre. It's enthralling, darkly comic, shockingly visceral and able to bring you close to its characters in a way that few games do.
Mikel Reparaz · Jun 25, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - A truly unique experience from start to finish, The Darkness is one of those games that will hook you in and steal your soul. In other words, with a blend of the supernatural as well as an action-packed mobster story, this game has all the goods to keep fans of the genre quite satisfied with all the things this game has to offer. Xbox 360 owners, this is a game you will most definitely want to buy.
jkdmedia · Jun 25, 2007 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Ultimately the game proves how powerful a storytelling medium gaming has become. Like the best cinema, the feeling of being privy to this dark world lingers long past putting down the controller. Its memory festers inside you - of a deeply disturbing experience, and an unforgettable one at that.
Total Xbox · Jun 29, 2007 Reviewed on X360 - For what it's worth, I'd concur with Rob and suggest that any fan of first-person shooters needs to play this game, even though the occasional duff level, and the slightly pedestrian AI disrupts the quality at times. Once The Darkness gets its tentacles around you, resistance is futile.
