  • Horror stories, whether movies, books, or games, often fall into two camps: great enough to infiltrate my dreams or bad enough I enjoy the laughter they bring me. There’s a third camp, however, and it’s the most disappointing of all: boring, leaving me with nothing to chew on, be scared of, or laugh at. It’s here I found Supermassive’s latest. Though the developer has some horror highs in its catalog, The Casting of Frank Stone rests six feet at the bottom of it.

  • The Casting of Frank Stone may not be weighed down by its ties to the Dead by Daylight universe, but it's nonetheless unable to reach the surface from under the waves of a slow story, dull gameplay and a lack of thrills.

  • If you love Supermassive Games’ work, you’ll feel right at home with The Casting of Frank Stone, technical issues aside. For the uninitiated, expect to run around areas finding nick-nacks to read or look at and the occasional binary dialogue choice. Creepy at times, but fascinating throughout, I enjoyed my foray into Frank Stone’s debut. All I gotta do now is play Until Dawn’s remaster.

  • The story of The Casting of Frank Stone is engaging, if a little half-baked during a first playthrough, but with the ability to replay certain sections you can fill in those gaps. Just don’t bother to turn off the lights with this one – scares are lacking.

  • While I do believe that there is an intriguing plot underneath it all, The Casting Of Frank Stone is in a weird position for me to recommend. Are you a fan of Dead by Daylight? Then I think you're gonna enjoy this Supermassive-flavored spin on the world of DBD. But for those who lean more as fans of narrative-horror experiences, there may be less here luring you beyond the fog.

  • Un juego entretenido que cumple su cometido como spin off de DbD, pero que no termina de destacar dentro de este tipo de aventuras narrativas.

  • Overall, I would say the quality of The Dark Pictures Anthology games is better than what we have here, as the former present more cohesive and engaging stories with better-developed characters. The Casting of Frank Stone relies too heavily on the tried and true formula created by Supermassive Games without introducing anything meaningful or refreshing. It’s not a bad time per se, just not one that pushes the genre forward.

  • The Casting of Frank Stone is a flawed but fun horror romp just in time for spooky season, the likes of which Supermassive and I may be destined to experience together forever.
