- Zoals aangehaald, lijkt Test Drive Unlimited zijn identiteit wat kwijt te zijn. Veel dingen die de franchise geliefd maakten, zijn niet in deze game aanwezig en hier is weinig tot niets voor in de plaats gekomen. Zo mist ook een beetje het gevoel van progressie, zoals je dat normaliter van de franchise gewend bent. De stabiliteit van de servers is een drama, kregen we te maken met framedrops, lag en ook grafisch scheert de game geen hoge toppen. Mocht de ontwikkelaar deze zaken opgelost krijgen, dan is de map daarentegen zeker een hoogtepunt. Ook over het handelingsmodel zijn we zeker te spreken en dat de AI zich op je niveau aanpast is leuk en uitdagend. Echter staan hier voorlopig nog te veel negatieve zaken tegenover om de game aan te raden. Het lage cijfer is vooral een gevolg van de frustraties om de staat waarin de game zich, bijna een maand na release, nog bevindt. Mochten deze zaken in de toekomst opgelost worden, mag je het eindcijfer gerust maal twee doen.

Το always online περιβάλλον είναι ίσως ό,τι χειρότερο μπορεί να συναντήσει κάποιος, τουλάχιστον με τον τρόπο που αξιοποιείται εδώ, και μόνο αν παρθούν σοβαρές αποφάσεις και γίνουν σημαντικότατες αλλαγές, ίσως κεντρίσει το ενδιαφέρον του κοινού.

Mais à l’heure actuelle, il est particulièrement compliqué d’en conseiller l’achat, tant celui-ci a souffert de problèmes profonds en cours de résolution. Outre un manque de finition générale et un contenu demandant à s’étoffer, ce sont surtout les serveurs catastrophiques qui auront littéralement pourri l’expérience d’un titre voulu obligatoirement connecté. Injouable chez certains durant plus de deux semaines, et particulièrement frustrant pour d’autres, TDUSC est pour le moment amputé d’une grande partie de sa dimension sociale, pourtant à la base de sa fondation. Il est à signaler qu’une mise à jour visant à corriger les principaux problèmes du jeu vient d’être mise en ligne au moment où nous publions notre test. Nous ne manquerons pas d’essayer cette dernière pour vous en faire un retour détaillé. Quoi qu’il en soit, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown se doit d’être noté tel que proposé à sa sortie, et tel que nous l’avons expérimenté.

Instead, the proposition they bring is a game that falls short of its rivals. Maybe a few months of support, patches and content will enhance what is currently a fairly average racing experience.
Dominic Sheard · Oct 01, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Il y avait de quoi se réjouir du retour de Test Drive Unlimited : proposant une gigantesque map basée sur la reproduction fidèle de l'île de Hong Kong et toujours avec cet aspect immersif propre à la série, Solar Crown avait de bons arguments pour séduire. La finalité, c'est que le titre s'appuie sur une progression répétitive et frustrante qui ne récompense presque jamais le joueur assez courageux pour y investir des heures acharnées ; pire encore, son aspect technique alarmant nous empêche tout simplement de profiter d'un gameplay et d'une direction artistique pourtant réussis. À la place, il faudra faire avec une connexion internet obligatoire qui dégrade l'expérience au point de la rendre parfois injouable et indigeste ; il faudra aussi supporter des graphismes inégaux et un framerate cassé, des bugs en pagaille et une IA déséquilibrée qui pousse aux crises de nerf récurrentes. Heureusement, les sensations et effets de vitesse sont bons, le nombre de voitures est correct et l'environnement plaisant, mais difficile de les apprécier à leur juste valeur pour tous les écueils en question.

The game suffers from odd design choices, technical issues, and the overall impression that this was a last-gen project. The online-only format messes up the overall flow of the game, especially when you constantly lose progress due to connection issues. When everything works as it should, you see glimpses of a great racing title, but sadly these moments are few and far between. As it currently stands, we suggest spending time with titles such as Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo 7. Negative remarks aside, we are hoping for a lot of patches in the near future to fix all the current wrongs.

Anziché puntare su ciò che ha reso questa serie così importante, gli sviluppatori hanno infatti deciso di imitare i giochi di guida open world più famosi senza però raggiungere risultati assolutamente paragonabili. Il risultato è un gioco di corse che a tratti risulta piacevole, è dotato di una bella ambientazione e di un sistema di progressione interessante, ma risulta banale nell'esecuzione e viziato su PC da una quantità di problemi tale da lasciare interdetti.

Il ciclo vitale della produzione è appena cominciato e l'offerta è destinata ad arricchirsi ed evolversi sensibilmente già nei prossimi mesi. Ad oggi però non possiamo che fotografare lo stato delle cose, tra una progressione basata su idee interessanti e non ideale all’atto pratico, una customizzazione delle auto appena sufficiente e un modello di guida che non ha saputo soddisfarci pienamente. Ad ogni modo, parte del potenziale della produzione è ancora inespresso e speriamo che il supporto post lancio possa risollevare la situazione.

Despite the name, it doesn't bear great resemblance to the previous games. Whilst there is a vast city to explore, the lifestyle element has been somewhat left behind and the car selection has significant omissions. It can be visually inconsistent but the driving model feels very solid. It lacks some detail but there is some decent digital tourism within. The worst of the connectivity issues appear to have been resolved but the way online is handled, and a general lack of atmosphere can make this feel like a lonely drive.

A pointless always online requirement, underwhelming car variety, and terrible progression system hinder what could have otherwise been a decent open-world racing game. I legitimately think that this can still be salvaged with a big fat update, removing some of these dated online requirements, rearranging the in-game economy, and reworking the visuals and GPU optimization to an acceptable degree. The gameplay itself is good, and the controls are actually decent. There is a foundation for something great in Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. It’s just buried under tons of glitches, pointless commercial decisions, and an undeniable amount of jank.
