  • TMNT Mutants Unleashed has some really good ideas that don’t coalesce into a great game. The combat is fine, but nothing to write home about. The social RPG concept is novel, but not well executed. It’s all the more frustrating because the writing for the relatively engaging plot is great. Part of me wished this game had some time to be refined because the framework of something totally radical is here. It just doesn’t make it out of the sewers.

  • Technical issues aside from the moment this game has potential. I love the fact that the Turtles have been given a bit more complexity in this game, but the mark is just a bit off. I honestly would have called this an okay game but had to knock it down with all of the hoops I had to jump through to finish the game. This won’t be the end for TMNT games and after some patches and maybe even a good sale, a fan of the reptilian ninjas may enjoy this but for now, I don’t think I’d recommend to my friends.

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed is a colorful follow-up to the successful 2023 film. With engaging characters and excellent voicework, things look and sound pretty great. Unfortunately, pacing issues and frustrating combat mar the experience.

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed isn’t a bad title; it’s just fairly unremarkable and perhaps even a bit bland. The action is entertaining, and so is the overall progression system, but the gameplay is rather monotonous and eventually boils down to button-mashing with your favorite turtle. This original TMNT adventure will probably entertain fans of the 2023 movie, but those looking for an old-school arcade title like the older Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games will probably end up disappointed.

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed looks the part, but its button bashing action quickly becomes boring thanks to its slim selection of enemies and its constantly reused levels.

  • We'd always rather see something aim high and fall short than settle for another dime-a-dozen action/platforming experience, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed certainly sits closer to the former. A Heartful of Games has made some noble swings here and some of them pay off - heck, nobody expected the Persona mission structure in this TMNT game. Unfortunately, all this ambition is overshadowed by performance issues that make even its most approachable elements feel like a chore. It's a fine welcome for younger fans keen to kick some shell after watching Mutant Mayhem, but this joint requires some serious scrubbing if it is to live up to its big-screen counterpart.

  • If you are looking for a turtles fix, TMNT: Mutants Unleashed is a great dose. The humor is good and it is just the turtles. Be careful, this is the new generation. Veterans (like me) will recognize little of the story and the environment and that also shows that this is a game for the younger generation. If you are looking for something more challenging and a more streamlined experience, check out that other game: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge .

About the game

Mutants and humans have been kickin’ it together in New York City. But then, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello discovered several shipments of mutagenic ooze were scattered, contaminating areas of the City. It didn’t seem so bad until they realised new mutants, a.k.a. 'Mewbies', spawned from this mess. Not all these Mewbies are evil, but some have lost their way, and the citizens don't feel safe anymore. Join the legendary Turtle brothers straight from the sewer and slide into this new adventure of shell-shocking proportions. With the help of April’s insightful reports from the streets and Splinter’s sage guidance, gear up to fight crime and unravel an epic saga of justice and chaos! Embark on the adventure in single or co-op mode to change the minds of the citizens, get those pizzas delivered on time, and try not to eat them on the way.
