- Whether you’re new to the genre or a returning veteran, for $13, I think that Steredenn: Binary Stars is a worthy addition to any Switch owners library. The game has a decent amount of modes that ultimately all work together in helping the player learn and progress through the game. So if you’ve been itching for a cheap shoot’em up game on the handheld-console hybrid, maybe do yourself a favor and check out this one.
Jordan Boyd · Apr 01, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - If you’re a fan of shoot’em ups, there’s very little reason not to buy Steredenn: Binary Stars. It’s a beautiful, well-crafted, and addicting 2D shooter that offers so many possible ship, weapon and upgrade combinations that you could have hours of fun just endeavoring to discover them all. Whether you own the original and want a portable copy, or you’ve never heard of it before, this is one game that definitely deserves a place in your Switch library.
Ramin Ostad · Mar 18, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - All told, Steredenn: Binary Stars is a fantastic release that does a great job of providing an experience that feels simultaneously classic and modern. It’s high difficulty, rewarding gameplay, endless variety, and beautiful presentation make this an essential buy for any fans of the genre, and a high recommendation for those who aren’t. If you’re looking for a tightly made arcade game that can be played both in short bursts and for hours on end, look no further than this.
Mitch Vogel · Mar 14, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - With so many shoot-’em-ups and roguelikes hitting the eShop, it’s difficult to know where exactly to start. Steredenn Binary Stars might look like a generic shoot-’em-up on the surface, but it offers quite a bit to be excited about. I found the wonderful selection of weapons and multiphase bosses an absolute delight despite the relentless difficulty. While the all or nothing nature will be more than enough to turn some people off, for those who welcome it will without a doubt find themselves proclaiming, just one more run.
Casey Gibson · Mar 10, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The visuals are simple yet satisfying, the systems blend together well, and there's depth here waiting to be discovered by dedicated players. Steredenn: Binary Stars is a decent roguelike space shooter, even if it didn't charm us quite as much as Galak-Z, but genre fans and those who enjoy a classically-styled shmup should certainly consider checking it out.
Mike Holmes · Apr 15, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - A tough as nails mixture of two of the toughest genres out there. It's still a good deal of fun though.
Alex Calvin · Mar 09, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The mash-up between 2D shooter and roguelike works surprisingly well, with a game filled to bursting with imaginative weapons and winning presentation.
GameCentral · Mar 08, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Surprisingly, thanks to, and not in spite of, its roguelike elements, Steredenn: Binary Stars takes what would otherwise be a decent shoot 'em up and turns it into a highly addictive frenzy where each run is heavily affected by whatever weapons are found along the way. Instead of feeling like a poor replacement for traditional game design, the random nature of each stage, along with weapon availability, serves the shmup genre incredibly well, emphasising the importance of quick reflexes and downplaying success through pattern memorisation.
