  • SteamWorld Heist II has so many outstanding core elements that, even chasing new horizons at the expense of some balance, it’s still a recommended sequel. While quirks might make it run out of steam at points, don’t be surprised when it keeps you coming back for more. With a presentation polished as a pearl and some fun twists, this lengthy sequel should find a place in the Switch collections of those up for the challenge.

  • SteamWorld Heist II is a phenomenal title that offers you the best when it comes to short, tactical encounters with thrilling turn-based gameplay. It’s not without its frustrations when it comes to story progression, but pushing through will reveal to you a game with incredible mission variety that you can mix up even more using your crew. Thanks to its checkpoint system and no punishment for mission failure, it’s incredibly approachable and opens the turn-based tactics genre up for anyone who doesn’t want to play something as intense as XCOM.

  • SteamWorld Heist II is impressively epic and offers gamers a lot of bang for their buck. It's a bigger, better, and more varied strategy game than its predecessor. While the story is mostly fluff to support the deep combat systems and character building, most people won't notice because they'll be too focused on the heat of a battle which unfolds like a tense story in its own right.

  • While I can’t say I would recommend this for every player, I think you should give this game a chance if you enjoy turn-based combat. This game showcases so many different and interesting aspects of its world, a combat system that I find to be one of the most engaging in a turn-based game that I have found in a while, and a gripping mystery that only has more layers added to it throughout the runtime. The colorful pirate robot style is enough to get someone interested, but the journey is enough to make anyone a fan of the series.

  • Everything in SteamWorld Heist II comes together to bring a lot of fun. You’ll enjoy getting to know all the characters and locations that have been added into the game, whilst the actual combat is tough, but well balanced. As something a little bit different, SteamWorld Heist II works very well, no matter whether you are a veteran to the franchise or a newbie.

  • When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.

  • SteamWorld Heist II builds upon the original in many clever ways to create a sequel that's a ton of fun even 8 whopping years after the first game debuted. Be sure to play it but don't sail in my part of the seas or I may have to take your hat.

  • SteamWorld Heist II is a splash of unique colour for tactical shooters that generally aim for a more gritty tone. Plenty of light-hearted humour, player agency given complete control, and the musical talents of Steam Powered Giraffe add so much character and charm that you can't help but love the down times as well as the tactical action. Thunderful Games has kept the heart of the SteamWorld series and released an almost flawless entry that I can't help but recommend to any fan of turn-based combat, robots, or the steampunk aesthetic.
