- Wrapping up, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s biggest issue was (and is, for some) stability. Up until the recent v1.808 patch, I experienced crashes when starting the game, black-screens after reaching the menu, crashes while tweaking visual settings in-game, and crashes during cutscene transitions. I ended up replaying the prologue more times than I care for, and none of those crashes resulted in a notification of any sort indicating what had gone wrong, or the ability to submit a crash report automatically.
Andrew Logue · Aug 17, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While the core gameplay behind Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is still as fun today as it was when it first came out on the PS5 two years ago, the fact that this is the first time a game in the franchise has been playable on PC is definitely worth noting. If you can manage to jump over the proverbial hurdle of needing a decent gaming PC to play, Rift Apart is definitely worth your time and money.
Shunal Doke · Jul 31, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - You're almost as well-equipped for the game's platforming and exploration. Starting off with a double-jump, grappling hook, and magnet boots, in short order you gain a generous air dash, wall-running, rocket boots that let you blast around at top speed, and more. They're all put to good use in various escapes and chase scenes over the course of the story, inevitably with things exploding and dimensions tearing open all around you as you go. But they come into their own when you take a break from your quest to go hunting for side content.
Robin Valentine · Jul 31, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an amazing game, looking and running even better on PC. However, this version does come with caveats and even some downgrades such as crashing and slightly different weapon functionality. PS5 is still the best way to play, but for those who adore the series like me it’s well worth double dipping.
David Flynn · Jul 31, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart remains a solid title in a long-running franchise that hits the mark. The simple story is bolstered by both the existing characters and new ones that carry the same amount of depth. The action flows smoothly between different types, and the addition of a dash move gives the game a sense of speed that makes combat feel better. It looks absolutely gorgeous thanks to the increased horsepower of the PC, and while some annoyances do exist, the release is much more solid when compared to some of the other big PC titles in the last 12 months.
Cody Medellin · Jul 31, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC is a near-perfect port of the fantastic PS5 game, giving those on PC the chance to experience its exciting action sequences, emotional character moments, and cutting-edge graphics. There have been a number of poorly-optimized PC ports this year, but luckily, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has bucked the trend and redeemed the PlayStation-to-PC ports after the disappointing Last of Us Part 1. It's an incredible game no matter where one plays it, but it's definitely cheaper to play it on PS5, so fans should keep that in mind.
Dalton Cooper · Jul 29, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The game is an incredible audiovisual experience, ridiculously fun and a perfect showcase of the Playstation 5’s capabilities.
Marshall B · Sep 20, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is brilliant, fast-paced fun that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Rift Apart manages to retain the charm and humor that we loved about the original titles, while balancing this with new characters that offer endearing vulnerability. But while the latest Ratchet and Clank makes great use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and audio, we wish it utilized PS5 audio more and were frustrated by the number of bugs. Despite adding some new, welcome features, it often feels like Rift Apart plays it a bit too safe, meaning it doesn’t quite achieve that ‘wow factor’.
Vic Hood · Aug 08, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - These days, it’s all on offer in a hundred different games. But without the magic or at least the competence, it’s just a flurry of sloppy colors and shapes, a whirlwind of ineffectual nostalgia, absent any innovation, creativity, confidence, or finesse. It took many years, but now that it’s being used to prop up a piece of hardware, Ratchet & Clank finally feels like the soulless corporate property it’s become.
Tom Chick · Aug 04, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - It feels as though Insomniac's writers have taken their cues from more recent Marvel movies, managing the tricky balancing act of cartoon mayhem and emotional payoffs. It made me, a casual lombax fancier, more invested in the series than ever before, and hoping we get to see a lot more of the fabulous foursome soon.
