- Konami has made the years-long derby with EA interesting again, posing a stunning comeback with its latest effort. Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 is not only the best PES I’ve played in years — it’s also the best soccer game I played this year. It might not be the most fully featured game or the most polished. And the list of things to fix for 2017 is pretty obvious. But, PES 2016 feels right. And for me, fun beats features every single time.
Eduardo Moutinho · Oct 14, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - PES finally finds the balance between stout sim and accessible arcade, but a poor port cast shadow on an otherwise great game. On consoles, PES 2016 successfully captures football’s complexities in the fastest, freshest and most responsive entry in years. On PC? It looks dated and runs slower. It’s still PES Productions’ best effort in some time, but the poor port is a bitter letdown.
Ben Griffin · Oct 08, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While not for everyone, PES 2016 is actually a very well done game. I learned a good amount, but am by no means an expert. I was able to get a good feel for the game and was able handle some matches on the easier difficulty. This is still very much a soccer fan’s game, and while it has the tutorials, the game is not very beginner-friendly.
Drew Leachman · Sep 28, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Side by side, Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 doesn’t stack up to FIFA 16 in licenses, game modes, or team selection, but Konami’s annual soccer series once again positions itself as a more complex and realistic soccer experience than EA’s flashy, but predictable, offering. With individualized players, explosive tactical potential and unparalleled realism, PES 2016 redefines what a soccer game can be.
Dermot Creegan · Sep 24, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - PES 2016 is undoubtedly a great football game, as good as it’s been in years. Sure, it’s better on the pitch than PES 2015, but it’s let down somewhat by some cavalier keepers who couldn’t catch a cold.
Dan Webb · Sep 22, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Fortunately, the series is growing and it appears it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. For Pro Evolution Soccer, its 20th anniversary brings in 2016 with a bang. The improvements and expanded gameplay comes as a bit of a surprise. Konami is showing that their push to the top of football greatness is fully in effect. It is safe to say PES 2016 is one of the best sports releases to the genre in recent years.
Devin Charles · Sep 21, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Thanks to the smooth, physical gameplay, the amazing animations, and the various and strategic game modes, PES 16 is easily the best title in the franchise. To go one step further – PES 16 is likely one of the best sport games out today, and despite a few minor annoyances, it is a must buy for anyone with even a remote interest in soccer.
Mark Labbe · Sep 21, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 is a strange entry in the series. The improvements are obvious and clear to see from the outset but the areas in which it has taken a step backward take a lot longer to actually uncover. You don't realise that you haven't conceded a free kick for ages until you've played more than a handful of games. You don't realise that the keepers pretty much can't save low shots until you've conceded a dozen goals in the bottom corner. This means that your time with PES this year will be spent playing for an hour or two and then putting the controller down in frustration. It's to Konami's great credit that it somehow always calls you back to it.
Ken Barnes · Sep 21, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - There are a plethora of modes in PES 2016. You can boot up the game and easily find yourself immersed in Master League, engaged in an online tournament, honing your skills on the training pitch, or simply stuck in Edit Mode for hours. Unfortunately, for a game that prides itself on simulation gameplay, the absence of fouls and defensive lapses can sour what could be an all-time classic.
Kevin Groves · Sep 20, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Developer PES Productions has talked the last two years about laying the foundation for the future, and this is the succulent fruit of their labor. PES 2016 is about more than just a few additions for the year. It ushers in a new era for the franchise that needs to be experienced.
