  • No matter what platform you're playing on, King Kong 's visuals won't disappoint. The PS2 is pushed to its limits to display the large, gorgeous environments, sometimes slowing down at more frenetic moments. The GameCube and Xbox manage to keep up the pace. This is very much an end-of-generation title, and pushes the current systems to their limits.

  • It's a fun romp though and definitely a welcome companion to the upcoming movie. There are countless tense moments playing as Jack and my only complaint is not playing as the featured star more than we were given the opportunity. It's a completely different flavor of FPS and might appeal to both sides of the fence - those that love FPS and those that usually shy away from them. So quit monkeying around and get on over to Skull Island and enjoy the scenery...while it lasts.

King Kong is a short but memorable game packed with high-level artistic aesthetics and production values. If you have a stereo system, be sure to play Kong through it. It sounds incredible! Visually, the Xbox 360 and PC versions look best, as shown in the normal mapping, superb lighting, and extra geometry. Despite the shortness and a handful of scripting errors, Peter Jackson's King Kong is in many ways a huge step forward in level design and presentation, it's beautiful and, most importantly, it's fun.

  • King Kong easily represents one of the better film-to-game translations released in recent years. This is a tightly delivered adventure with barely a dull moment, and the ability to play as two such wildly different protagonists as Jack Driscoll and King Kong is a real treat. It's just too bad that the two characters' respective sections weren't more evenly balanced, and that the game ends so soon and with a final level that feels tacked on.

The perfect console accompaniment to the rollercoaster film. Short, but still Peter Jackson and Michel Ancel at their jaw-dropping best

  • Overall there's a great deal to admire, including the use of screen-colouring, pad rumbling and the deadening of sound to indicate pain instead of clumsy on-screen instrumentation; and the screeching of strings to motivate you to hurry when one of your colleagues is in increasingly drastic danger. It feels very clean.

    About the game

In this epic adventure, you will experience the fateful legend of Kong from the perspective of both man and beast. Survive Skull Island as unwitting hero Jack Driscoll in first-person shooting action, and unleash the staggering power of the 25-foot-tall King Kong in third-person action sequences. Use everything in the jungle to your advantage, exploiting the natural food chain of the prehistoric predators and grabbing objects from the environment to kill those hunting you.
