  • P4A is a well-conceived fighter with all the potential to be a top class EVO selection. While the game is designed to be a bit button mashy it is still deep with strategy that allows anyone to have a fighting chance as long as they try to get better at the game. For those in Europe who waited patiently for it to grace their shores all the hype that came with the game is warranted.

  • Some will likely find the presentation off-putting, and admittedly, it’s unusual finding a fighting game that takes so long between, y'know, fights, with a boatload of exposition and easily skippable nonsense breaking up the action. Voice acting is comparable with the majority of video game/anime stuff (meaning it’s largely annoying and diabolical, but oh well). However, it’s all well-presented, looks nice and most importantly, is a lot of fun to play. It’s a proficient interpretation of Persona’s world with Arc System’s beat em up smarts.

  • It’s taken its sweet time but Persona 4 Arena looks lovely, it plays fantastically and the fact that it still draws a strong online community in both America and Japan is testament to its quality. The accessible brother of the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue titles, ArcSystem Works has done a fantastic job twisting the Persona series into a fighting game spin-off.

  • With such stark differences between RPGs and fighting games, the marriage of the two genres in Persona 4 Arena shouldn’t work as comfortably as it does. Various fighting games have attempted to implement a worthwhile story, but Persona 4 Arena is the first time where that plot is vital. It chokes on its ambitious word count more than once, but never enough to make it anything less than a must-play game for anyone eager to see where Atlus is taking the Persona series next.

Persona 4 Arena is as eccentric and Japanese as it gets. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a JPRG will love the game even if fighting games aren’t their forte. The gameplay is designed to appeal to anyone from novice to pro, so even passing fighting fans will be able to make it through story mode with limited difficulty.

  • Persona 4 Arena is staggeringly beautiful and provides just enough fan service for the RPG players while ramping up the challenge for the fighting game guys. It certainly doesn’t skimp on story, but more inexperienced players might be overwhelmed by how deep, and convoluted, the plotline is.

  • It takes everything you loved in Persona 4 and expands upon it greatly, telling a story that seems to be cannon for future iterations in the franchise. With an absolutely stellar presentation, some of the most memorable tracks picked from the last game, an arsenal of modes to play, and one of the lengthiest stories in a fighting game, Persona 4 Arena has everything a fighter should have, plus more.

  • As it stands, anyone seeking a fresh, stylish take on traditional 2D fighting should enter this Arena

  • Still, as strong entry to both the Persona series and the fighting genre, Persona 4 Arena remains an extremely worthwhile pick-up for fans of either. While it may not be exactly clear which party this was made for, those who give it a try from either camp may find themselves discovering new interest in the other.

  • I am in love with this engine, true, and I probably spent as much time finding combos in Training Mode as I did finishing Story Mode, but it was Story Mode that got me honestly choked up. These characters are more than just concept art and frames of animation; they're people, haunted by their own weaknesses and limitations and yet stronger because of it. Atlus has raised the bar for mature, coherent storytelling in the fighting game universe.
